Eccentrica’s V12 is a re-engineered first-series Lamborghini Diablo that adds modern mechanical improvements without making the car’s central experience depend on driver aids. It keeps a naturally aspirated V12, rear-wheel drive and a gated six-speed manual with a clutch, while updating areas such as cooling, brakes, chassis and suspension. “Less tech” here means preserving the driver’s role—not leaving the car untouched.

What the Eccentrica V12 is—and what it is not

Eccentrica builds the V12 by re-engineering first-series Lamborghini Diablo cars. The company’s 2026 Roadster announcement describes that model as a comprehensive re-engineering of the first-series Diablo. It is therefore a bespoke restomod, not a new Lamborghini production model.

The distinction matters: the Diablo’s basic character is the starting point, while engineering changes address weaknesses that can make an older performance car harder to use. Eccentrica’s releases describe an updated car, not a factory-fresh 1990s Diablo preserved exactly as it left the production line.

What “less tech” means behind the wheel

In the How-To Geek interview, Eccentrica board member Andrea Colombo describes a car built around direct driver involvement. The reported configuration pairs a naturally aspirated V12 and rear-wheel drive with a clutch-operated, gated six-speed manual. The driver selects gears and manages the clutch rather than handing those tasks to an automatic transmission.

  • Brand new box. Real rubber tires. Officially licensed product. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Has opening doors and engine compartment. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-10.5, W-4.5, H-2.5 inches.

That mechanical involvement is the point of contrast with performance cars whose speed increasingly comes through automated shifting or systems that take a larger role in managing the driving experience. Colombo described the Eccentrica as “very honest, very direct” and said it is “very rooted in the ’90s in terms of sound and rawness.” Those are his characterizations, not independent test findings.

The idea is not that every modern feature is undesirable. If almost any sufficiently powerful modern car can be fast, what makes a sports car special? For this project, the answer is how much the driver can feel and operate the machine. As the interview puts it, “Sometimes less technology is more.”

Modern engineering without replacing the car’s character

Eccentrica’s approach separates improvements intended to make the car work better from technology that would change the driver’s relationship with it. The interview reports upgrades to cooling, brakes, chassis and suspension, while the company’s production and Roadster announcements describe re-engineering work that includes the chassis and suspension. The goal, as presented, is to improve the mechanical package while retaining the Diablo’s basic layout and an involved driving experience.

The Roadster announcement gives company specifications for a re-engineered 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12: 550 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Eccentrica’s 2025 production release lists 550 horsepower for the V12 Coupé. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements.

Colombo also told the interviewers, “Two thousand horsepower? It’s not our game,” and said, “We’re really testing it heavily.” The remarks reflect the company’s stated priorities and testing approach; they do not provide independent performance or durability results.

How the Coupé and Roadster differ in the available figures

Model and source Published powertrain details Production figure
V12 Coupé, Eccentrica production announcement, May 5, 2025 550 horsepower; six-speed manual; electric reverse 19 V12 units
V12 Roadster, Eccentrica announcement, August 10, 2026 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12; 550 horsepower at 7,000 rpm; 600 Nm at 6,500 rpm 19 Roadsters

The Roadster is the more exposed version of the concept. Eccentrica founder Emanuel Colombini called it “more exposed, more immediate, more demanding” and said, “No roof. No filter. Nothing between you and the machine.” The company’s announcement establishes that nineteen Roadsters are planned; the Coupé’s separate production release gives nineteen V12 units. Those are model-specific figures, not a combined production total.

Price, mileage and support: what is reported

The How-To Geek interview article reports a Coupé starting price of approximately $1.25 million and a Roadster price roughly $100,000 higher. Eccentrica’s cited 2025 and 2026 releases do not confirm those prices, so they should be treated as interview reporting rather than verified company price lists.

The same interview reports Colombo’s estimate that the company’s rose-gold car had covered roughly 27,000 to 28,000 miles. That is his reported estimate, not an independently verified odometer reading.

On service, the interview reports that routine work may be handled through Eccentrica’s dealer network or qualified independent specialists with technical help, and that the company can send a “flying doctor” for serious problems. Eccentrica’s dealer page confirms that it has a dealer network, but does not independently establish those specific service arrangements. Anyone considering a commission should confirm service terms directly with the company.

Who this kind of restomod is for

The Eccentrica V12 makes most sense for a buyer who values interaction and a specific historical character over the convenience of a contemporary performance car. Its appeal is the combination of a Diablo foundation and revised mechanical systems, while its manual transmission keeps the driver actively involved.

  • Consider it if: you want a bespoke, limited-production car that retains a naturally aspirated V12, rear-wheel drive and a gated manual, and you value the feel of a 1990s-era supercar.
  • Look elsewhere if: your priority is automated gear changes, the latest driver-assistance technology, or a car whose performance depends on minimizing driver input. The Eccentrica concept deliberately prioritizes a different experience.

With production announced at nineteen units for each model, this is a rare commission rather than a broadly available alternative. The interview-reported seven-figure starting price also places it firmly in bespoke collector-car territory, though buyers should seek current pricing and written ownership details from Eccentrica.
