If T-Mobile Visual Voicemail messages are missing or will not download, first check whether voicemail is set up and whether the mailbox receives messages at all. Then follow the troubleshooting path for your phone: Android uses T-Mobile’s Visual Voicemail app, while iPhone voicemail is accessed in the built-in Phone app. Be careful before clearing Android app data, because some messages may be deleted.
Start with voicemail setup, signal, and storage
Before troubleshooting the visual inbox, make sure basic voicemail is active on the line. From the phone associated with the line, press and hold 1, then follow the prompts to set a password and record a greeting. See T-Mobile’s basic voicemail setup instructions.
Check that the phone has cellular coverage and available storage. T-Mobile advises having at least two signal bars and at least 15% of device memory free for Visual Voicemail to work reliably; these are its troubleshooting guidelines, not a guarantee of service. T-Mobile’s voicemail troubleshooting page lists these checks.

Test whether the mailbox itself is receiving messages
A missing visual message can result from a mailbox or call-routing problem rather than an app that failed to sync. Restart the phone, temporarily turn off Wi-Fi, and call voicemail directly. Check whether the message is available there. Then leave yourself a test voicemail and save it.

- If the test message reaches the mailbox but not the visual inbox, focus on the platform-specific app or setup steps below.
- If it does not reach the mailbox, or unanswered calls do not go to voicemail, the issue may involve the mailbox, account, or call forwarding. Contact T-Mobile support rather than changing forwarding settings without instructions for your device.
Android: refresh the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app
T-Mobile’s Visual Voicemail app is the Android path; it is not the iPhone voicemail interface. T-Mobile’s Visual Voicemail app page describes the app and its scope.
- Check for an update to the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app, then open it and sync or refresh the inbox.
- Try playing a message. If it still does not appear or play, update the phone’s software and restart the phone.
- Before clearing app data, preserve any messages you need. T-Mobile warns that clearing data can delete messages over a month old and messages saved only in the Visual Voicemail app.
- If you accept that risk, clear the app’s cache and data in the phone’s app settings, then open the app and sync again. Menu names vary by Android version and manufacturer.
- If the problem continues, T-Mobile recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the app. As another troubleshooting test, remove downloaded battery-saver apps, which may interfere with voicemail.
iPhone: finish Phone app setup and check Live Voicemail
On iPhone, check voicemail in the built-in Phone app; do not look for the Android T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app. Once the phone is connected to T-Mobile’s network, restart it and complete the voicemail “Set Up” flow if it appears. T-Mobile says newly deposited messages will not display in the app until setup is complete. Its voicemail support page includes iPhone setup notes.

If you use Live Voicemail and messages or carrier features are not behaving as expected, check the Live Voicemail setting on the iPhone as a troubleshooting step. T-Mobile cautions that some carrier voicemail features, including Voicemail to Text, may not be compatible with Live Voicemail. The available T-Mobile guidance does not establish that turning Live Voicemail off will resolve every missing-message problem.

When to contact T-Mobile
Contact T-Mobile if a saved test message never reaches the mailbox, unanswered calls fail to route to voicemail, or the checks for your platform do not restore access. Those symptoms point beyond a visual-inbox refresh and may require help with the mailbox or call routing. T-Mobile’s troubleshooting guidance covers calling voicemail and unanswered calls that do not forward.
