The available evidence does not verify what Martha Stewart said in the exclusive interview named in the original headline, so it cannot support attributing a specific explanation to her. Her separate remarks at Salesforce Connections, reported June 4, 2026, do offer a grounded way to understand how the media and retail landscape around her business changed: early press coverage helped her catering business reach customers, retail partnerships expanded her product business, and digital publishing brought new opportunities as well as unmet expectations.

What can be established about the “so much easier” claim?

The exact interview or transcript behind the original headline is not available in the sources for this article. The phrase “so much easier” therefore cannot be treated here as a verified quotation or used to claim that Stewart identified any particular modern advantage. Her separately reported remarks at Salesforce Connections provide context, not confirmation of what she said in that exclusive.

That distinction matters: a modern brand can use digital publishing and online retail, but that does not by itself establish that launching a consumer brand is cheaper, faster, or more likely to succeed. Stewart’s own account includes both new channels and the work involved in building a business.

How Stewart described building an audience and a retail business

Press coverage helped her catering business get noticed

At Salesforce Connections, Stewart recalled that local newspaper coverage followed the launch of her catering business, with coverage later appearing in The New York Times and People. She said she had no advertising budget at first and used press coverage instead. This is her recollection as reported by Diginomica, not evidence that publicity is a dependable or cost-free substitute for advertising today. Read Diginomica’s June 4, 2026 event report.

A retail partnership took her brand into home goods

Stewart said she became a home-style expert and advisor to Kmart in the 1980s, working on sheets and towels. As reported by Diginomica, she recalled that the business exceeded $1 billion within two years and later reached almost $2 billion annually. Those figures are her reported recollection; they are not presented here as audited or independently verified company statistics.

Digital tools changed the work, but not on a guaranteed timetable

Stewart recalled that her magazine was designed on a Mac, saying, “When we started my magazine, we were the first, other than Wired, to design our magazine on a Mac.” Later, as print advertising declined, she said she moved toward digital publishing. The shift created another way to publish, but her account also illustrates that audience adoption can fall short of expectations: she recalled expecting digital readership to reach one-third in the first year, while her estimate was “like five percent.” That is her personal estimate as reported by Diginomica, not an industry-wide measurement.

She also described product and idea selection as rooted in demand: “Need and want’ is a huge constant in my life.” The reported remark points to a continuing business constraint: a new channel can help a brand reach people, but it does not establish that those people want the product.

Her current product activity shows the brand’s ongoing reach

In April 2026, Stewart’s official blog introduced a Kitchen Electrics Collection of 16 appliances in five neutral colors. The post said the collection would be exclusive to Amazon stores for the coming months, a time-limited availability claim that may have changed since publication. The named products include a countertop blender, French-door air-fryer toaster oven, waffle maker, slow cooker, rice cooker, and stand mixer. Martha Stewart's Cooking School: Lessons and Recipes for the Home Cook: A Cookbook
  • This best-selling cookbook originally inspired Martha Stewart's beloved PBS series of the same name and includes some of the recipes the show featured in its first seasons.

The product post describes the countertop blender as having six stainless-steel blades, an easy selector dial, a large pitcher, and dishwasher-safe parts. It describes the rotating waffle maker as having a 180-degree flip iron and an overflow tray. These details demonstrate ongoing product activity; they do not establish why Stewart believes her original brand would be easier to launch now.

A separate April 9, 2026 post says the collection launch was held with Amazon and The Cookware Company as partners. That establishes their role in this product launch only; it does not establish affiliate arrangements or other commercial terms. Read the launch event post.

What the available account does—and does not—show

  • It shows: Stewart’s reported path included press coverage, a major retail relationship, print publishing, and later digital publishing.
  • It also shows: new formats did not guarantee the audience response she expected, and Stewart described building the business as sustained work: “It’s 12 hours, 20 hours a day, of work, it’s not a rocket ship. It’s a big slog, and, and yet, I like slogging.”
  • It does not show: a verified explanation from the exclusive interview, or evidence establishing that brand launches today generally cost less, take less time, or have better odds of success.
