The problem was timing, not volume: a map region’s fill-complete cue and a stamp landing happened on the same frame, so they read as one event. In the author’s case study, moving the stamp later made the two beats easier to distinguish; increasing the sound and motion intensity did not.
What made the two events blur together?
The sequence showed a map region filling in, followed by a stamp landing on that region. The fill had its own confirmation sound, while the stamp’s arrival was meant to feel like a separate, related beat. In the original version, both events occurred at frame 708, according to Hexisteme’s 2026 notes. The author said the timing made them feel like one moment rather than two.
A user’s complaint captured the issue: “the stamp landing and the low confirm sound don’t really land.” The author’s diagnosis was that the events were not separated in time, despite their different visual and audio qualities.

What changed in the revised sequence?
The author delayed the stamp entrance by 0.35 seconds after the fill animation completed. The fill-complete event stayed at frame 708, while the stamp entrance moved to frame 726. Hexisteme’s 2026 notes describe the resulting rendered separation as about 0.6 seconds: the scheduled delay plus roughly 0.25 seconds of the stamp’s scale-in animation before it looked landed.

The author also increased the stamp’s fall distance and starting scale, and replaced a shared sound cue with a dedicated low-frequency thud. But the account credits the scheduling change—not simply making the effects bigger or louder—with making the sequence legible. These are measurements and observations from one project, not results from a controlled test.
How to diagnose a feedback timing collision
- Identify the beats the viewer should notice. In this sequence, one beat confirmed that the region had filled; another marked the stamp’s arrival.
- Check when each event actually occurs. The author found that both events landed on frame 708. If two effects share a frame or overlap in their perceived onset, ask whether the design intends them to feel simultaneous or sequential.
- Adjust timing before relying on greater intensity. When two sequential events need to register separately, test a later start for the second event. The case study’s 0.35-second delay is specific to that sequence, not a general timing rule.
- Evaluate the perceived arrival, not just the scheduled start. The stamp’s scale-in took roughly 0.25 seconds to read visually as landed, so the author’s estimated separation included that motion.
- Use intensity changes as supporting choices, not as proof of separation. A louder cue, larger movement, or different sound can alter emphasis, but the author’s account does not establish that those changes alone distinguish events that occur together.
Where this lesson applies—and where it stops
The author extends the lesson to alerts, notifications, interface state changes, and other discrete feedback. When a design needs someone to register that two things happened, rather than just that something happened, temporal separation may help each beat register distinctly.

That is a design lesson from a single animation example, not a validated threshold for human perception or a finding tested across products. The reported 0.35-second delay and roughly 0.6-second perceived gap should be treated as project-specific figures, not universal prescriptions.
