Logitech did solve the multi-dongle problem—but only for devices that support the same receiver family. A Unifying receiver can pair up to six compatible keyboards and mice; a Logi Bolt receiver can pair up to six compatible devices. Unifying and Bolt are separate systems, so mixing them can still leave you with more than one receiver.
Why Logitech receivers do not all work together
“Logitech wireless” is not one universal connection standard. Unifying and Logi Bolt are separate receiver families, each with its own compatible devices. A Unifying receiver will not pair a Bolt device, and a Bolt receiver will not pair a Unifying device. Logitech also has wireless products whose connection options vary by model, so the brand name alone does not establish compatibility.
That fragmentation explains why you may still have several dongles: a collection of peripherals from different generations or connection families may not be consolidated onto one receiver, even though each family supports pairing multiple devices.

What each receiver can consolidate
| Connection family | Supported capacity | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Logitech Unifying | Up to six compatible keyboards and mice on one receiver | Only devices compatible with Unifying can pair to it. Logitech Unifying receiver details |
| Logi Bolt | Up to six devices paired; up to three active connections at one time | Bolt peripherals require a Bolt receiver, unless that particular device supports another connection method. Logitech Logi Bolt technology and Logi Bolt white paper |
Pairing capacity is not the same as the number of devices actively connected at once: Logitech’s Bolt white paper specifies up to three active connections, even though up to six devices may be paired.

How to tell which receiver your device needs
- Check the peripheral. Look on the bottom of the mouse or keyboard and on its packaging for the Unifying or Logi Bolt logo. Logitech identifies those marks as the compatibility clue. See Logitech’s Unifying setup guidance.
- Group devices by family. Keep Unifying-marked devices with a Unifying receiver and Bolt-marked devices with a Bolt receiver. Do not assume that a receiver works with another Logitech product simply because both carry the Logitech name.
- Use the matching pairing route. Logitech’s supported pairing flow for Unifying receivers uses Logi Options+. Bolt devices can use a Bolt receiver; some also support Bluetooth Low Energy, depending on the device and host. Consult the model-specific setup information if the logo or connection options are unclear.
When Bluetooth or a USB adapter helps
Some devices offer Bluetooth Low Energy as an alternative to a receiver, but Bluetooth support is model-specific. Check the individual device’s markings and setup guidance rather than assuming it can connect directly to a computer.
A USB adapter or hub can help when the receiver’s connector does not fit an available computer port, or when you need additional ports. It changes the physical connection to the computer, not the receiver’s wireless protocol: an adapter cannot make a Unifying receiver pair with a Bolt device.

- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: This is not a standard plug-and-play receiver. It strictly requires -downloading the official Logitech Unifying Software to sync and pair with your compatible keyboard or mouse
Replacing a missing receiver
Logitech lists replacement receivers for both Unifying and Bolt devices. Choose the family that matches the peripheral’s logo and confirm model compatibility before ordering. A replacement Unifying receiver is not a universal Logitech receiver, and a Bolt receiver is not a substitute for one.
Logitech states a receiver range of up to 33 feet (10 meters) for Unifying and Bolt materials; actual range can vary with the environment and setup. That range does not indicate whether a particular peripheral can pair with a receiver—the compatibility mark and model do.
