Nova Minerals says it is advancing an Alaska antimony project to build a vertically integrated U.S. supply chain, from planned mine-side feed preparation at Estelle to processing and refining at Port MacKenzie. A U.S. Department of War award of US$43.4 million supports the effort. As of the company’s October 8, 2026 update, key equipment had arrived and early earthworks were underway, but the planned processing and refinery facility still needed remaining permits before construction could begin.
Why is Nova Minerals advancing the project?
Nova’s stated aim is to develop a domestic antimony supply chain in the United States, with the Estelle project in Alaska supplying material for downstream processing at Port MacKenzie. The company frames the project as a response to U.S. reliance on imported antimony and the importance of secure sources for defense and other critical-material needs. That import-dependence argument is Nova’s framing in its July 2026 announcement, not an independently established statistic here.
Nova says the U.S. Department of War awarded it US$43.4 million in October 2025 to support development of an antimony mine at Estelle and a downstream refinery at Port MacKenzie. The award is a source of project support, not a guarantee that construction will be completed or that the operation will be commercially successful. Nova also says its planned Port MacKenzie pilot plant could process concentrate from Estelle and potentially feed from third-party domestic or allied sources.
The policy case is part of the company’s rationale. In July 2026, Nova cited an Executive Order signed July 20 that it said emphasized U.S. or trusted allied sourcing and traceability for military equipment and critical materials. CEO Christopher Gerteisen said the order “reflects the direction of U.S. policy on critical minerals sourcing that has informed our work at the Estelle Gold and Critical Minerals Project and our planned processing infrastructure at Port MacKenzie.” This is Nova’s interpretation of the policy context; it does not establish future customers or prove the project’s economics. What is planned at Estelle and Port MacKenzie?
The proposed pilot operation is split between two Alaska locations. Nova’s July 13, 2026 engineering announcement describes a front end at Whiskey Bravo, within the Estelle project, and processing and refining at Port MacKenzie.
Mine-side preparation at Whiskey Bravo
The planned work at Whiskey Bravo includes crushing, screening, ore sorting, concentrate storage, and load-out. This stage is intended to prepare material for transport to the downstream facility. Nova has described stibnite-bearing material at Estelle as a potential feed source, but the October 2026 update did not establish a defined antimony resource or demonstrate reserves sufficient to supply the plant.

Processing and refining at Port MacKenzie
Port MacKenzie is planned to handle further crushing and screening, sorting, beneficiation, refining, product recovery, and supporting utilities, reagents, infrastructure, and logistics. Nova says the refining stage would use a proprietary hydrometallurgical process to produce antimony trisulfide, which would then be filtered, dried, and bagged. Antimony trioxide and antimony metal are possible future expansions through additional circuits, not products the current pilot design has demonstrated it can produce.
Nova calls the design modular and has described onsite crushing and ore-sorting construction as underway in a May 2026 announcement, with completion targeted during the Alaskan summer of 2026. That work is separate from the downstream Port MacKenzie facility, whose construction remained subject to permits in the October update. Is the Port MacKenzie plant under construction?
Not yet, based on Nova’s October 8, 2026 announcement. The company reported that all remaining key equipment for the planned processing and refinery operation had arrived at Port MacKenzie on October 6. The equipment list included two ball mills, a jaw crusher, an apron feeder, hydraulic filter presses, and ancillary equipment. Nova had previously reported the arrival of a 500-ton equipment shipment on September 6.
Nova also reported early earthworks underway and said construction of the facility could commence in the coming weeks, subject to receipt of remaining permits. Equipment delivery and early site preparation indicate readiness to advance; they do not mean the processing and refinery facility itself is built or operating. The announcement also reported access-road and airstrip work at Estelle.

What does the latest update say about Estelle?
Nova said the 2026 field season had concluded after approximately 8,000 metres of diamond drilling focused on the RPM gold deposit. Samples and drill core had been shipped for analysis, with results expected later. The company also said its Stibium and Styx antimony prospects were progressing toward potential resource delineation and production. These statements describe ongoing exploration and project development; they do not establish a defined antimony resource, plant feed reserves, or production.

What is known—and not yet established?
- Reported progress: Nova says engineering and design are complete, key equipment has arrived at Port MacKenzie, and early earthworks are underway.
- Still conditional: The company said remaining permits were required before construction of the processing and refinery facility could commence.
- Planned product: The pilot facility is designed to make antimony trisulfide; other products are future expansion possibilities.
- Not established in the cited announcements: A completed permit set, production volume, binding customer contract, independently verified demand forecast, or operating plant.
- Schedule: References to production in 2026 or 2027 are company targets and forward-looking statements, not confirmed outcomes.
