A Qi2 power bank can charge a phone slowly even when both devices are working normally. The usual reasons are a mismatch between the phone’s supported rate and the bank’s maximum output, excess heat, a case or misaligned magnetic connection, demanding phone activity, a battery-management limit near 80 percent, or a slow USB-C input when the bank itself is being recharged. Identify which device is slow, check the phone’s status message, then work through the physical, thermal and compatibility checks below before replacing the bank.

First, identify what is actually charging slowly

“Slow charging” can describe two different problems:

  • The phone is charging slowly while attached to the bank. The wireless output path, phone settings, temperature, alignment, case or phone activity is the likely area to investigate.
  • The power bank takes a long time to recharge from USB-C. Its input rating, cable, wall adapter and charging mode matter; the bank’s wireless output rating does not automatically describe its USB-C input.

Record the exact phone model, exact power-bank model, starting battery percentage, approximate elapsed time and whether either device feels warm. A comparison made from 20 percent on one phone and 65 percent on another is not a controlled test. Battery chemistry, software limits and the final part of a charge can make apparently similar tests look very different.

Qi2 does not guarantee one charging speed

Qi2 is a certification and alignment standard, not a promise that every phone will draw the same wattage from every magnetic bank. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) says the original Qi2 specification launched in November 2023 at 15 watts. In a July 23, 2025 announcement, it said Qi v2.2.1 would be branded Qi2 25W. Those are standard-level maximums and rollout details, not a guarantee for an individual phone-and-bank combination.

Label or fact What it establishes What it does not establish
Qi2, original launch WPC describes the November 2023 Qi2 launch as 15 watts. That every Qi2 phone accepts 15 watts, or that a bank continuously delivers 15 watts.
Qi2 25W WPC’s July 23, 2025 announcement brands Qi v2.2.1 as Qi2 25W. That a phone, bank and region already support 25 watts together.
“Nearly 70% more power” A comparison published by WPC between Qi2 25W and original Qi2. A measured improvement for every phone-and-bank pairing.
14 devices WPC said 14 devices had completed Qi2 25W certification testing in its limited initial launch. The current number of certified products.

Check the exact phone model’s wireless-charging specification and the bank’s certification mark and rated wireless output. The highest number printed on the bank cannot override a lower limit in the phone, a temperature protection rule or a software charging limit.

Check the phone’s charging status before changing hardware

iPhone status messages

On an iPhone, open Settings > Battery and inspect the Lock Screen while the phone is attached. Apple says iOS 18 and later can show a Slow Charger notice when a higher-wattage charger could improve the experience. Apple also states that this notice does not mean the iPhone or charger is faulty; it is a prompt about available charging power.

Apple’s iOS 26 guidance can show an estimated time to reach 80 percent or the selected charge limit when the battery is above 80 percent. Treat that estimate as a software forecast, not a measurement of the bank’s constant wattage. Menus and wording can vary by iOS release and model.

Android status and manufacturer guidance

Android phones use different labels and charging controls. Look for the charging-speed text on the lock screen or in the battery settings, then consult the phone maker’s instructions for the exact model. The Apple limits and messages described here are iPhone-specific and should not be applied universally to Android devices.

Fix a weak magnetic connection, case or obstruction

Center the phone

Place the phone so its charging coil is centered over the bank’s magnetic charging area. Magnetic attachment helps alignment, but a phone can still sit off-center, especially when the bank is moved, used as a stand or attached through an ill-fitting case. Watch the charging indicator after repositioning rather than assuming that a magnet automatically means perfect coil alignment.

Run a case-free test

Remove the case and attach the bare phone for several minutes. Apple identifies thick, metal and battery cases as possible causes of slow wireless charging. Wallet cases can also leave cards or other material between the coils. If the case-free test is clearly better, use a thin case designed for the phone’s magnetic charging system and retest; do not buy accessories until this simple test identifies a fit or heat problem.

Remove objects between the surfaces

Take out cards, metal plates, rings, clips and other objects positioned between the phone and bank. Besides reducing transfer efficiency, metal objects can heat up. Keep the charging faces clean and check that the bank’s magnetic surface is not obstructed by a protective film or debris.

Reduce heat, especially above 80 percent

Wireless charging produces heat, and phones actively manage temperature. Apple says an iPhone can slow or pause charging when its temperature is outside the normal operating range. Its documented operating-environment recommendation is 0–35°C (32–95°F). That range is an environmental recommendation, not a promise that a particular temperature produces a particular wattage.

  1. Move the phone and bank out of direct sunlight, a hot car, a blanket or another poorly ventilated space.
  2. Remove a heat-trapping case and let the phone cool naturally. Do not put a hot phone in a freezer or against an ice pack, because condensation can cause damage.
  3. Keep the bank and phone’s charging surfaces in contact without covering them with clothing or bedding.
  4. Resume charging after the devices return to a normal temperature and compare the behavior at the same battery percentage.

Charging commonly tapers as the battery approaches a limit. Apple specifically notes that heat can limit wireless charging above 80 percent. A noticeable slowdown near that point is therefore not, by itself, evidence of a defective bank. Battery optimization, a manually selected charge limit and the phone’s protection logic can all change the final portion of a charge.

Stop activities that compete with wireless charging

The phone may consume much of the incoming power while it is working. Apple lists intensive apps, games, camera use and high-quality video streaming as activities that can reduce wireless charging speed. Disconnect wired accessories while testing: Apple’s guidance says a connected USB-C or Lightning accessory can limit iPhone wireless charging to 7.5 watts. That is an Apple/iPhone-specific limit, not a universal Qi2 rule.

  1. Close a game, camera session or other demanding app.
  2. Stop high-quality video streaming and avoid navigation or intensive downloads for the test.
  3. Disconnect wired USB-C or Lightning accessories.
  4. Lock the screen and leave the phone idle for 10–15 minutes.
  5. Compare the battery increase with the previous test at a similar starting percentage.

If the phone charges normally while idle but slowly during use, the bank may be functioning as designed: the phone is spending part of the received energy on its own workload.

We do not recommend using it with Android phones, as differences in fit or alignment may affect placement or result in slower charging speeds. This power bank is flight-approved and complies with air travel regulations in the United Sates and most countries. Howeveer, it does not have China's 3C certification and cannot be carried on domestic flights within China.
  • What You Get: Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K, Slim), 23.62" / 60 cm USB-C to USB-C cable, welcome guide, 24-month worry-free warranty, and lifetime support.
  • The phone’s supported wireless-charging standard and maximum rate.
  • The bank’s certified profile, such as Qi2 magnetic support, and its rated wireless output.
  • Any manufacturer conditions, including supported operating systems, regional variants or limits when another output is used at the same time.

WPC’s November 15, 2023 announcement describes Qi v2.0 as having two profiles. The Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), based on MagSafe technology contributed by Apple to WPC, is branded Qi2. The Enhanced Power Profile (EPP) has no magnets and uses the existing Qi logo. A product carrying a Qi logo therefore does not necessarily have magnetic alignment or Qi2 performance.

Similarly, a Qi2 25W mark on a bank does not prove that the phone supports Qi2 25W. Certification confirms that a product met the relevant standard tests; it does not make every phone negotiate the newest rate. If the phone is limited to a lower profile, the bank will normally deliver no more than that negotiated level.

If the power bank itself recharges slowly

When the bank’s own battery is the slow part, inspect its USB-C input specification. Do not assume that a bank rated for a high wireless output accepts the same wattage through USB-C. The consulted guidance does not establish an input rating for any particular model, so use the bank maker’s stated input wattage and recommended cable and adapter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Read the bank’s label or manual for USB-C input watts and supported charging protocols.
  2. Use a cable rated for the required power and a wall adapter that can provide at least the bank’s stated input.
  3. Try a second known-good cable and adapter if the bank shows intermittent charging.
  4. Charge the bank in a cool, ventilated place and disconnect other loads while it replenishes.
  5. Measure the time from a clearly reported low percentage to full, noting whether the bank tapers near the end.

USB-C Power Delivery can enable faster wired iPhone charging when the phone and adapter support it, but Apple’s advice about USB-C PD is not a guarantee about every power bank’s input behavior. The bank’s own specification controls.

A practical troubleshooting sequence

Follow this order so each test changes only a few variables:

  1. Define the symptom. Decide whether the phone, the bank, or both are slow. Record model, battery percentage, elapsed time and temperature.
  2. Read the status message. Check the iPhone’s Battery settings and Lock Screen, or the equivalent Android status for your model.
  3. Reposition the phone. Center the charging coils and confirm that the charging indicator remains active.
  4. Remove the case and objects. Test without thick, metal, battery or wallet cases and without cards or other items between the surfaces.
  5. Cool the setup. Move it away from sunlight and heat; allow the phone to return to a normal temperature.
  6. Reduce phone activity. Disconnect wired accessories, stop intensive apps and lock the screen.
  7. Compare specifications. Confirm the exact phone profile, bank certification and rated wireless output.
  8. Test the bank’s input separately. If the bank is slow to refill, verify its USB-C input rating, cable and adapter.
  9. Repeat one controlled check. Use the same starting percentage, case configuration and idle conditions before judging a change.

When the evidence points to a faulty accessory

Consider a warranty claim or replacement only after the case-free, cool, idle test still produces unexpectedly poor results and the phone and bank are confirmed compatible. Warning signs include charging repeatedly starting and stopping while the phone is centered and cool, a bank that will not accept its specified input with multiple known-good cables and adapters, physical swelling or damage, a burning smell, or unusual heat that persists after removing the case and stopping phone activity. Stop using damaged or overheating equipment rather than continuing a charging test.

Comparison point Why it matters
Certified profile and rated wireless output Determines what the bank is designed to negotiate and deliver.
Phone compatibility The phone may support less than the bank’s maximum or a different profile.
USB-C input rating and recharge claim Controls how quickly the bank itself can refill; output and input are separate specifications.
Capacity and size A larger capacity can add weight and thickness, affecting magnetic fit and portability.
Thermal behavior and hardware A stand, integrated cable or ventilation may change how the bank behaves during use.
Warranty and safety certifications Provides a recovery path if the unit fails and helps verify basic compliance claims.

What Qi2’s standard history means for your expectation

WPC announced Qi2 v2.0 on November 15, 2023, describing MPP magnetic alignment and EPP without magnets. Its executive director, Paul Struhsaker, said magnetic attachment would reduce the need to adjust positioning for alignment. That explains why a properly made magnetic bank can be easier to use, but it does not remove phone-side limits, thermal management or case interference.

On July 23, 2025, WPC announced the Qi2 25W branding for Qi v2.2.1 and said 14 devices had completed certification testing in the limited initial launch, with broader testing opening to devices already in the queue. Those numbers describe that announcement’s point in time, not the current certification count. WPC board chair Fady Mishriki characterized Qi2 25W as delivering “nearly 70% more power” than original Qi2; treat that as WPC’s standard comparison, not a guarantee that your phone will charge 70 percent faster.

Answers to common variations of the problem

Why is my MagSafe-style battery pack charging slowly?

Check the same variables: phone support, magnetic centering, case thickness, heat, battery percentage and phone activity. A MagSafe-compatible attachment does not establish that the pack and phone negotiate the highest Qi2 rate.

Why does wireless charging slow down after 80 percent?

Phones taper or pause charging to manage heat and battery health. Apple specifically documents heat-related limits above 80 percent, so compare performance below that level before diagnosing a hardware fault.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will my case make Qi2 charging slower?

It can. Thick, metal, battery and wallet cases may weaken alignment, add distance or retain heat. Remove the case for a controlled test; only change accessories if that test shows a clear difference.

Does Qi2 mean 15W or 25W?

Both figures refer to different standard generations. WPC described original Qi2 as 15 watts and announced Qi2 25W branding for Qi v2.2.1 in 2025. Your actual rate depends on the phone, bank, negotiated profile and operating conditions.

The bottom line

Start with the phone’s status message, then test alignment and case removal, cool the setup, stop demanding activity and verify the exact compatibility ratings. If the bank itself is slow to refill, investigate its USB-C input path separately. A slow-charge notice or a lower-than-advertised result does not automatically indicate failure; it often reflects a negotiated limit or the phone protecting itself from heat.
