GetApps’ indexed article excerpt says the portfolio includes more than 55 desktop apps built without Electron, but it does not reveal the specific reasons behind that choice. Tauri’s documented architecture offers a plausible technical context: it uses operating-system WebViews instead of bundling its own, which can make the final application smaller while adding platform-specific considerations. That explains a tradeoff Tauri presents; it does not establish GetApps’ actual selection criteria.
What is known about GetApps’ choice?
A search-index excerpt for GetApps’ article, surfaced by Readfeeds, describes “55+ desktop apps” built without Electron and says the portfolio consists of dozens of small, focused utilities. The original article’s full text was not available in the source, so that excerpt is the limit of what can be stated about GetApps’ implementation and rationale. It does not give app-size figures, benchmarks, platform support details, or a developer’s explanation of why Tauri was selected.
The technical case below is therefore about Tauri’s documented design, not a claim that GetApps chose it for any particular reason.

Tauri separates the application’s core process from its web-based interface. The core creates and manages windows and routes communication between components; WebView processes render the interface using libraries provided by the operating system. Tauri’s process model documentation describes this arrangement.

Potentially leaner packaging, with a platform tradeoff
Because Tauri dynamically links the platform’s WebView libraries rather than bundling those libraries in the final executable, the application package can be significantly smaller, according to Tauri. The tradeoff is that developers must account for differences between operating systems’ WebViews. The documentation supports a general packaging rationale, but it does not provide a measured comparison with Electron or a size result for any GetApps utility.
Web technology with an OS-managed renderer
This design lets an app render its interface as web content while relying on the operating system for the WebView runtime. The practical implication is that interface behavior and testing need to account for platform differences; it is not evidence that any particular GetApps screen has a problem or behaves differently.

What Tauri’s security model does—and does not—establish
Tauri’s documentation describes the core as the component with full operating-system access, while permissions can be limited by process. It advises developers to sanitize input, keep secrets out of the frontend, and place appropriate business logic in the core. Those are design and implementation responsibilities, not security guarantees conferred automatically by choosing Tauri.

What can—and cannot—be concluded about the comparison
The available evidence supports a narrow comparison: Tauri’s documented design uses operating-system WebViews and avoids bundling those libraries in the final executable, while requiring developers to account for platform variation. The GetApps excerpt establishes that the portfolio is described as a collection of small utilities built without Electron. It does not connect that portfolio shape to a specific technical decision or establish a measured advantage over Electron.
Tauri’s 1.0 announcement, published June 19, 2022, described the project’s intended audience as “the security-focused, privacy-respecting, and environmentally-conscious software engineering community.” The statement was made by Daniel Thompson-Yvetot, identified in the announcement as Tauri co-founder. It expresses the project’s aims; it is not an independent assessment of Tauri’s impact or of GetApps’ choices. The announcement is historical context, not a current feature inventory: Tauri 1.0 release announcement.
