If your soundbar keeps cutting out, first check whether it happens on every input or only one. A Bluetooth-only dropout points toward pairing, distance, obstacles, or wireless interference; dropouts on TV audio through HDMI ARC/eARC call for checking compatibility, ports, cable, settings, and firmware. Test one source at a time before changing settings so you can tell whether the problem follows the TV, source, cable, or soundbar.
Start by identifying what loses sound
Play audio from each source separately: TV audio, a device connected directly to the soundbar, Bluetooth, or built-in streaming if your model has it. Note whether audio cuts out on all sources or only one, and whether the soundbar display or selected input changes when it happens. Also check whether the soundbar itself goes silent or only a wireless subwoofer or rear speaker drops out.
This comparison separates a source-specific connection problem from one that may involve the soundbar or its power. LG recommends comparing Bluetooth playback with TV audio over HDMI ARC and another connected source. Samsung’s troubleshooting flow also uses source, device, and port checks to help distinguish a TV-side issue from a soundbar-side one. LG’s audio-cutting-out guidance and Samsung’s soundbar troubleshooting guide describe these checks.

- Confirm that the soundbar is paired with the device you intend to use and selected as that device’s audio output.
- Move the phone, tablet, or computer closer to the soundbar and reduce obstacles between them.
- Move the soundbar at least 3 feet (1 m) from a Wi-Fi router or other wireless devices. LG gives this as manufacturer guidance; it is not a guaranteed fix. Samsung also warns that a nearby wireless router can affect Bluetooth speaker quality.
- Play audio again and check whether the dropout continues. If other inputs also cut out, continue with the connection checks below rather than assuming Bluetooth interference is the cause.
See LG’s Bluetooth connection and audio-dropout steps and Samsung’s guidance on interrupted TV-to-soundbar audio. A Bluetooth-specific configuration can cause issues on particular models, but model-specific cases should not be treated as universal explanations.
Why does TV sound cut out through HDMI ARC or eARC?
ARC and eARC carry TV audio over HDMI. For either to work, the TV and soundbar must support the relevant feature, and the cable must connect to the designated ports on both devices.

Confirm compatibility and ports
- Check the TV and soundbar manuals or specifications to confirm both support ARC or both support eARC for the connection you are using.
- Connect the cable from the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC to the soundbar’s HDMI OUT port labeled ARC or eARC. An ordinary HDMI port may not provide the audio-return function.
- If only one device supports ARC/eARC, Sony says the feature cannot activate. Use an optical or other audio connection supported by both devices instead.
See Sony’s ARC/eARC troubleshooting instructions and Samsung’s soundbar guide.

Check the cable and connections
Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends and inspect it for damage. Samsung recommends a certified cable. Sony recommends trying a new or known-working high-speed cable, avoiding long cables and adapters or extenders, and using a Premium HDMI cable for eARC. Follow the requirements in the manuals for your specific devices; replacing a cable is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed cure.

Check audio output, source, and HDMI control
In the TV’s sound settings, select the audio system or external sound output as appropriate for your model. Confirm that the soundbar is on the input connected to the TV. Also check HDMI control, often called CEC: Samsung calls its CEC feature Anynet+ and instructs users to enable it for the described ARC setup; Sony advises checking Control for HDMI. Menu names and the correct options vary by brand and model.
Check audio-format settings for your equipment
Audio output options are not universal. Samsung’s Philippines guide discusses eARC mode and Pass-Through for its described setup. Sony notes that PCM may be needed when an audio system does not support DTS or Dolby Digital. These recommendations address different device and format combinations, so check both manuals and test only a format the connected equipment supports. Samsung’s TV-to-soundbar troubleshooting guide and Sony’s ARC/eARC guide provide model-dependent examples.

Reset, update, and isolate the problem
Power-reset the TV and soundbar
Sony’s reset sequence for an ARC/eARC setup is:
- Turn off both the TV and audio system.
- Disconnect their power cables and the HDMI cable for two minutes.
- Reconnect the HDMI cable to the correct ARC/eARC ports, then reconnect power.
- Turn on the TV before turning on the audio system, then test TV audio.
Follow your device manuals if they specify a different procedure. Sony’s ARC/eARC troubleshooting page gives this sequence.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check for software updates
Check the manufacturer’s support instructions for current firmware or software for the exact TV and soundbar models. Sony includes updating both devices in its ARC/eARC troubleshooting. LG describes an update in a specific surround-sound configuration without a rear satellite kit; that example does not show that firmware causes every dropout. See LG’s audio-cutting-out guidance.

Use substitution tests to find the failing component
- Try another source or device on the soundbar. If the soundbar works with that source but not the TV, investigate the TV, its settings, and the connection between the two.
- Try a known-good cable, if available, or another compatible TV. Change one component at a time so you can see whether the problem follows the cable, source, or TV.
- Disconnect other HDMI devices temporarily if you suspect they are interfering with HDMI control. Sony recommends this as an isolation step.
- If the soundbar still cuts out with a test source and known-good connection, contact the soundbar manufacturer or arrange service. Samsung’s guide likewise recommends service when the soundbar fails with another device.
These fault-isolation steps are covered by Samsung and Sony.
When an optical connection is a reasonable alternative
If ARC/eARC is unavailable because one device lacks support, an optical audio connection may work if both devices have compatible optical ports. Check the manuals for supported audio formats and setup instructions. Switching away from HDMI may also change which control functions are available, so confirm how you will adjust volume and operate the devices. Sony identifies optical or another audio connection as an alternative when both endpoints do not support ARC/eARC.
