First check where the message appears. A notification bubble inside the headset can be controlled in Gear VR’s Universal menu. A warning on the phone’s ordinary screen—especially one mentioning Oculus support ending or One UI 4—is a different issue: Samsung says Gear VR cannot run on Android 12 because the required software is not included.
Which Gear VR pop-up are you seeing?
The location and wording point to different causes. Use this comparison to choose the relevant steps:
| What appears | Likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A bubble for an incoming call or notification while wearing the headset | An in-headset notification setting | Check the pop-up control in the Gear VR Universal menu. |
| A notice on the phone’s regular screen about discontinued support or One UI 4 | Gear VR service or required software is unavailable in that software environment | Check the phone’s Android and One UI versions and model-specific support information. |
Samsung Members users have described a phone-level notice that appears whenever the phone starts, quoting: “Due to Oculus ending its technical support, the Gear VR service is no longer available for One UI 4.” This is a report from a community post, not evidence that the alert appears on every device or how common it is. If the pop-up appears inside the headset
The Gear VR SM-R325 device manual describes pop-up messages for incoming calls and notifications during headset use, with a setting in the Universal menu to turn them on or off. Open the Universal menu while using Gear VR and look for its pop-up or notification control. Menu labels and availability can vary with the Oculus service and software version. If the warning appears on the phone screen
Check the phone’s software version
Samsung support states that Gear VR cannot be used on Android 12 because that operating system does not include the software needed to connect the headset and launch Gear VR apps. This explains why a recurring support warning can reflect software compatibility or service status rather than a failed headset. Samsung Korea support page, dated January 14, 2019
The Samsung Galaxy S10 (SM-G973F) software update notice says, “Gear VR will no longer be available after this update.” That statement refers to the availability of the service after a software update; it is not a general diagnosis of headset hardware. Note the exact alert and when it started
Before changing settings, record the full notification text, phone model, Android and One UI versions, and whether it began after an update or restart. This helps distinguish a support notice from an in-headset notification and gives you useful details to check against support information for your specific model.
Can disabling a Gear VR app stop the alert?
Some Samsung community users report trying Force Stop or Disable on Gear VR-related system apps; reports differ, and some users say the notice returned after restarting. Treat this only as a device-dependent troubleshooting attempt, not an official or reliable fix. Menu names and available actions vary by phone.

One community report describes an uninstall process that appeared to remove Facebook-related apps along with Gear VR components; this is an anecdotal warning, not confirmation that every device behaves that way. The cited Samsung support information establishes that Gear VR is unsupported on Android 12; the Galaxy S10 notice documents service termination tied to an update. These sources do not provide a complete compatibility chart for every phone model, region, carrier, or software build. Do not assume that an older Galaxy phone or an earlier Android version will work: check support information for the exact device and installed software.
