If HBO Max (now listed in the retrieved support guidance as Max) is missing from your Fire TV Stick, start by searching the official Amazon Appstore and checking the exact device model and Fire OS version. Max’s device guide says Amazon Fire TV devices running Fire OS 5 or later, including Fire TV Stick, are supported, but that guidance is older; confirm the current app listing and requirements for your region. If you can find and install the app but it will not work, follow the separate app troubleshooting steps below.
First, check the current Amazon Appstore listing

On your Fire TV, open Find.

Search for Max, the name used in the retrieved support guide. The current name shown in your local Amazon Appstore may differ, so check the listing available in your region.

Select the official app and choose the download option if it appears. Max’s device guide gives this route: Find → search Max → select the app → download. See Max’s device and installation guidance.

The retrieved support pages use the name Max, but they are older and do not establish the current storefront name everywhere. If a search for “HBO Max” returns nothing, try the current name shown by the local Appstore rather than assuming the app is unavailable.

Check your Fire TV model and software
Find the exact device model and Fire OS version before concluding that the app is incompatible. Max’s device guide says Amazon Fire TV devices with Fire OS 5 or later—including Fire TV Stick—are supported. Because that guidance is not current, treat it as a starting point and verify the latest requirements against the local Appstore listing.
Check for a Fire TV system update

Labels can vary with Fire TV software and device model. Max also describes updating an installed app by highlighting its tile, pressing the remote’s Menu button, and choosing More Info → Update. Max’s device guide covers its Fire TV installation and update route.

If the app is installed but will not open or behaves incorrectly
These steps address an app that is already installed; they do not explain why it might be missing from search.

Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications, select the app, and clear its cache and data. Clearing data can require you to sign in again.

If the problem continues, uninstall the app and reinstall it through the official Amazon Appstore.

Buffering is different from an app that does not appear in the store. Check the Fire TV connection at Settings → Network. If other devices on the same network also have trouble, investigate the connection; if playback problems occur only on Fire TV, Max suggests testing on another supported device and includes reinstalling the app among its Fire TV steps. Check account access after installation
Once the app is installed, sign in with the account associated with your subscription. Sign-in or subscription access can affect whether you can watch, but the retrieved guidance does not establish it as a reason for the app to be absent from Appstore search. Do not buy a subscription as a fix for a missing listing.
When a different Fire TV device might help
Consider replacing the device only if you have confirmed that its model or software does not meet current app requirements. A newer device is not a general fix for an Appstore catalog, regional availability, or account issue. Check the exact model’s compatibility and whether the official app appears in your local Appstore before spending money.
