Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted Satisfactory servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
If a Satisfactory blueprint works in single-player but not in multiplayer, the usual problem is that you copied it to the wrong computer or user profile. The host or dedicated server is authoritative: place the blueprint files in that machine’s session folder, make sure the folder name matches the active session, then reload the save or restart the server.
What actually causes the problem
Satisfactory blueprints are files, not account-wide cloud objects. A blueprint saved or downloaded on your PC is normally available only to the game process that can read that PC’s blueprint directory. In multiplayer, the process running the session decides which blueprints are loaded and whether a client may use them.

That creates two common situations:
- In a player-hosted game, the host’s computer is the authority. A client can see a blueprint locally, but that does not make it available to the host’s session.
- In a dedicated-server game, the server machine and its service account are the authority. Copying files into your own Windows profile does nothing unless that profile is also running the server.
The game uses two related files. The .sbp file is the Blueprint Module that contains the build. A matching .sbpcfg Blueprint Config File carries shared metadata such as the displayed name and other configuration. A downloaded blueprint may work without every optional metadata file, but when both files are supplied, copy the matching pair together and keep their base names unchanged.
Player-hosted multiplayer versus a dedicated server
First identify which process owns your session. The upload location, permissions and restart behavior differ substantially.

- [Games need exclusions and runtimes, not malware]Some customers ask why our retro game drives can trigger Windows Security warnings. Many game files are older DLLs that Windows Defender sometimes flags as threats. They are not viruses or malware—just old or uncommon code causing false positives. We temporarily add them to the exclusion list so they aren't blocked, then re-enable Security to keep your PC protected. Many classic games also need legacy VC++ and DirectX runtimes, which modern Windows doesn't include by default. Installing them ensures compatibility and smooth play. Your safety matters to us—these are safe, standard steps for retro games.

| Setup | Authoritative blueprint directory | Who can upload | Reload needed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player-hosted multiplayer | The host PC’s Satisfactory blueprint folder for the active session | The host, or anyone with access to the host PC’s files | Reload the host’s save after copying; restarting the game is a safe alternative |
| Dedicated server | The server machine’s blueprint folder, under the account that runs the server | The server owner or an administrator with console, file-manager or SFTP access | Restart the dedicated server after copying, then reconnect |
Giving a blueprint to every client is not a substitute for putting it on the authority’s filesystem. A client may retain a local copy for personal or single-player use, but the multiplayer session still needs the host or server copy.
Dedicated-server blueprint paths
The official path depends on the operating system and, on Windows, the account used by the service. Replace {SESSION NAME} with the exact folder name created for the active save session.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Server process | Blueprint directory |
|---|---|
| Linux | ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/blueprints/{SESSION NAME} |
| Windows, launched as a normal user | %LOCALAPPDATA%FactoryGameSavedSaveGamesblueprints{SESSION NAME} |
| Windows NSSM service | %WINDIR%System32configsystemprofileAppDataLocalFactoryGameSavedSaveGamesblueprints{SESSION NAME} |
| Windows Server service | %WINDIR%ServiceProfilesNetworkServiceAppDataLocalFactoryGameSavedSaveGamesblueprints{SESSION NAME} |
Do not assume that an administrator’s interactive profile is the service profile. NSSM commonly runs under the system profile, while a Windows Server service can run as NetworkService. If you browse to %LOCALAPPDATA% while logged in as an administrator, you may be looking at a completely different directory from the one the server reads.
A server that has never created a blueprint may not have a blueprints directory yet. Create a blueprint in the game first, stop or reload the server, and then inspect the newly created folders. This also reveals the exact session-name spelling used by that installation.

How to install a shared blueprint correctly
- Determine the session type. Ask whether a player is hosting from the game client or whether a separate dedicated-server process is running. For a hosted game, work on the host PC. For a dedicated server, work on the server machine or its managed file-transfer area.
- Find the active session name. Open the server’s or host’s
SaveGames/blueprintsdirectory and identify the folder corresponding to the save you actually load. Match capitalization, spaces and punctuation exactly. Do not copy into a similarly named folder from an older save. - Prepare the files. Copy the blueprint’s
.sbpfile and its matching.sbpcfgfile when one is provided. Keep the original file names and extensions; do not rename a config file to match a different module. - Place the files in the session folder. The final location should look like
.../blueprints/{SESSION NAME}/BlueprintName.sbp, with the optionalBlueprintName.sbpcfgbeside it. Do not leave the files one level above the session folder or inside an extra folder created by an archive extraction. - Reload the game state. In a hosted session, reload the save after the copy. On a dedicated server, stop and start the server, wait for it to finish loading, and then reconnect. Downloaded blueprints are not guaranteed to appear while the current save remains in memory.
- Test from the build menu. Search for the blueprint by its in-game name and try placing it in a safe area. If it appears and places normally, the authority and path are correct.
When the blueprint is missing from the build menu
Wrong machine or profile
This is the most frequent failure. A file in your client’s local folder cannot be read by a friend’s host or a remote server. Confirm the physical machine that launches the session and the operating-system account attached to that process. For a rented or managed server, use the provider’s file manager or SFTP account; uploading through your local game client does not update the server.
Incorrect session-name folder
The game associates blueprints with a session-name directory. A valid file in a folder for another save can remain invisible even though the extension and contents are correct. Compare the directory name with the active session, including punctuation and any spaces. Patch history records fixes for invalid session-name characters, so unusual names can also trigger visibility problems on older builds.

Archive programs often produce a structure such as blueprints/MyPack/BlueprintName.sbp. Move the files directly into the session folder. Ensure the operating system has not hidden a second extension, such as BlueprintName.sbp.sbp, and keep the module and config base names paired.
No reload after copying
The build menu is populated when the save loads. Copying a file while the session is running may have no visible effect until the save is reloaded or the dedicated server is restarted.

When the blueprint appears but cannot be placed
Visibility proves that a file was discovered, not that every actor or dependency in it can be instantiated in the current build. Start with a small, known-good blueprint created on the same game build.
- Place the simple test blueprint. If it works, move on to the larger or downloaded design.
- Quarantine the suspect file by moving it out of the session directory, restart or reload, and test again. This prevents a damaged or incompatible blueprint from being loaded repeatedly.
- Check that the server and all clients are on compatible game versions. Historical patches mention crashes during pre-synchronization loading, problems involving the AWESOME Sink, and other multiplayer blueprint faults; behavior can differ by build.
- If only one design fails, obtain a fresh copy of that blueprint and repeat the two-file installation. If every blueprint fails, return to the authority, path and server-log checks rather than editing individual files.
Do not infer that a placement failure is caused by missing player resources alone. A resource warning is different from a blueprint that crashes, disappears or refuses to instantiate. Capture the exact on-screen message and the server log entry before changing several variables at once.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Read the dedicated-server log
Dedicated-server logs are under the server installation’s FactoryGame/Saved/Logs directory. The current log is named FactoryGame.log. Stop the server or copy the log while it is idle, then search around the time you restarted after installing the blueprint.
- Look for file-open, permission or path errors, which indicate an account or directory problem.
- Look for session-name or synchronization messages, which point to a mismatch between the loaded save and the folder you used.
- Look for blueprint-loading crashes or actor errors when the file is visible but placement fails.
A service account may also lack permission to read files copied by an administrator. Grant the server account read access to the blueprint directory, or copy through the same account’s file-transfer mechanism, then restart and check for a successful load.

Version history explains some contradictory advice
Blueprints arrived in Update 7, and multiplayer behavior has changed through subsequent patches. The patch history documents repeated fixes for invalid session names, client and server lists getting out of sync, loading before synchronization completed, and blueprint-related crashes. Advice written for an older build may therefore describe a symptom that no longer occurs or omit a required restart.
In a July 9, 2024 developer Q&A transcription, the developers said the 1.0 plan was for dedicated-server blueprint files to remain server-side, while also describing a longer-term goal of making access easier. That means the server-side file model is the correct assumption for 1.0-era installations; do not rely on a client-only upload workflow unless a later update or your server provider explicitly documents one.
Second-line checks for broader multiplayer problems
Use general multiplayer support steps only after confirming authority, session folder, file pair and reload. They address installation or connectivity faults, not the normal blueprint path.
- Verify the game files on the affected installation.
- Update graphics drivers.
- Check firewall and antivirus permissions for the game and server process.
- Set Network Quality to Ultra and test again.
- Try another host or create a fresh save to distinguish a save-specific problem from a machine-wide problem.
If a fresh save works but one established save does not, preserve a backup of the save and its logs before further testing. If no save accepts any blueprint, focus on the server account, permissions and installed build.
Quick diagnostic checklist
- Is this a player-hosted session or a dedicated server?
- Which computer actually runs that session?
- Which operating-system account runs the server process?
- Does the path use the exact active session name?
- Are the
.sbpmodule and matching.sbpcfgtogether? - Are the files directly inside the session folder, without an extra archive directory?
- Did you reload the save or restart the server after copying?
- Does a small, known-good blueprint place?
- Does
FactoryGame.logshow permissions, path, synchronization or actor errors? - Only after those checks: have you verified files, firewall access, drivers, Network Quality and a fresh save?
The Bottom Line
Blueprints fail on Satisfactory servers most often because they are installed on the wrong authority. Put the files on the host or dedicated server, under the account and exact session folder it uses, reload the save or restart the server, and use the server log to separate path problems from blueprint compatibility or broader multiplayer faults.
