APX forwarding is designed to carry one bounded, attributed quote into another agent session—not to paste an anonymous block of text or merge two conversations. Manuel Bruña, APX’s builder, says the quote preserves source and speaker details while making the quoted boundary visible to both the interface and the receiving model.
What happens when you forward a message in APX?
According to Bruña’s DEV Community article, a person can forward a message to another session in the same project or a different project. The destination receives a quote card, followed by any note the sender adds. The original session stays unchanged; the destination treats the forwarded item as a new ordinary user turn.
The handoff is deliberately limited: it carries one quotation, not an entire conversation or project history. It does not merge sessions or make their histories identical.
What information travels with the quote?
Bruña describes the quote as having structured provenance in turn metadata, alongside a visible marker in the text delivered to the model. The metadata is intended to support interface rendering and navigation; the text marker identifies the quoted boundary for the model. In the author’s account, using both avoids relying only on prose conventions or requiring clients to infer presentation from text.

- Origin: The source address can identify a thread, conversation, or live session, depending on where the message began. Bruña says the originating project is recorded as well, since an identifier by itself may be ambiguous across projects.
- Speaker: The identity model distinguishes the owner from an agent and can include an agent display name.
- Quote boundary: The quote precedes the sender’s note. Blockquote lines and a closing marker are intended to distinguish even multi-paragraph quoted content from the new instruction.
Why use a quote instead of a paste?
A plain paste can preserve the words while discarding information needed to interpret them: who said them, which project they came from, and which conversation they belonged to. Bruña summarizes the concern this way: “Copy-paste is fast, but it quietly destroys the facts that make a handoff trustworthy.”
The design separates two jobs. Structured metadata gives the interface information it can use as data; an explicit marker in model-facing text signals that the content is quoted context. The intended result is a more legible handoff, not a guarantee that the receiving model will interpret every quote correctly.

How much text can a forwarded quote contain?
Bruña states that APX caps forwarded text at 4,000 characters and marks the quote as truncated when it exceeds that limit. The article’s publication year is not established in accessible metadata, and this is the author’s description rather than independent verification of current APX behavior. Check the quote card for truncation before relying on a long handoff.
What forwarding does not do
- It does not give the destination access to the source project’s full conversation.
- It does not synchronize or merge session histories.
- It does not create a separate forwarding history; the forwarded content is handled as a new user turn in the destination’s existing conversation.
That makes APX forwarding a manual context handoff: a person selects one useful piece of source material, carries it over with attribution, and adds any new direction separately. Bruña’s article describes the design rationale and implementation approach, but reports no adoption figures, reliability results, or user-study evidence showing a measured improvement in outcomes.
