FSR 4 may be missing because the handheld’s graphics hardware is not officially supported, the game does not expose AMD’s ML-based upscaler, or the feature must be enabled through AMD Software instead of the game’s graphics menu. An AMD processor logo alone does not confirm compatibility.
Why FSR 4 may not appear on your handheld
AMD now calls FSR 4 “FSR Upscaling” on its FSR technologies page. Some games may still label the feature “FSR 4,” so check for either name.
The handheld’s GPU may not be on AMD’s supported list
AMD’s current public statement lists Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics cards for FSR Upscaling with ML technologies, and says RX 6000 graphics support is planned for 2027. It does not establish support for every AMD integrated GPU or handheld APU. Check the exact model and graphics hardware rather than relying on the processor brand.

When FSR 4 was first released, AMD GPUOpen specified RDNA 4 hardware, Windows 10 or 11, and DirectX 12. AMD’s RDNA 4 announcement described the original implementation as exclusive to RX 9000 graphics cards at launch, using hardware-accelerated FP8 WMMA. The newer support page has since added RX 7000 and announced RX 6000 support for 2027; those updates still do not confirm compatibility for a particular handheld.

The game may not support the feature—or may expose it another way
FSR support is also game-specific. Some games integrate the ML-based upscaler directly and show it in their graphics settings. In certain games with FSR 3.1 or later integration, AMD Software can provide an upgrade path that replaces the game’s upscaler with the ML-based version, subject to the hardware and game being supported. The game’s own FSR option may still need to be enabled.
Planned support is not the same as support available now
On October 7, 2026, TechSpot reported that AMD senior vice president Jack Huynh told South Korean media official FSR support would reach a range of APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld gaming PCs before the end of 2026. On October 8, Hardware Busters described the reported plan as a lighter model for some existing chips and a new generation for APUs, while noting that exact chip and feature details were unavailable. These reports describe a roadmap, not confirmation that a specific handheld can use FSR 4 today. Neither provides a complete model-by-model compatibility list.

How to check whether FSR 4 can work on your handheld
- Identify the exact hardware. Check your handheld’s model and GPU or APU specifications. AMD branding by itself does not establish that its graphics hardware supports FSR 4.
- Check the game’s implementation. Look in the game’s graphics menu for “FSR 4” or “FSR Upscaling.” AMD says some games offer the ML upscaler directly; other eligible games may use the AMD Software route.
- Check AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. Close the game, then open Gaming > Graphics and look for “AMD FSR Upscaling” and, where applicable, “AMD FSR Frame Generation.” AMD’s setup instructions require the game not to be running when you configure global graphics options.
- Verify the game’s FSR version if using the upgrade route. AMD documents FSR 3.1 or later integration for the upscaler route and FSR 3.1.4 or later for its frame-generation upgrade path. The game may also require its in-game FSR setting to be on.
- Compare both the device and the game with AMD’s current information. If the option remains absent, an update cannot be assumed to add official support for hardware AMD has not listed.
What to conclude if the setting is still missing
A missing menu item does not identify a single cause: it may reflect unsupported hardware, the game’s implementation, or the activation path. Confirm compatibility for the exact handheld and title, and distinguish shipping support from a reported future plan. A handheld-specific compatibility list is not established in the available AMD statements or the cited roadmap reports.
