A request for 100 jobs can return an empty jobPostings array even when the same Workday career-board endpoint returns postings for a request of 20. That behavior has been reported by developers, but it is not a documented rule for every board: another report found an HTTP 400 response for larger page sizes. Check the response and test the specific board before concluding that an employer has no openings.
What a zero-result response means
Juan Carlos Gutierrez reports that a request with limit: 100 returned HTTP 200 and a valid-looking response whose jobPostings array was empty, while a request to the same endpoint with limit: 20 returned postings. A separate DEV Community article also reports empty results above 20 and notes that the response’s total field may still contain a value. These are reported observations, not a guaranteed Workday behavior or official API contract.
The HTTP status alone may not reveal the problem. Gutierrez described his test this way: “No error. No warning. No 400. Nothing that tells you the request was invalid.” That describes his observed case, not all boards: FetchSmith reports receiving an HTTP 400 error when testing values above 20. The reports therefore do not establish one universal status code or response for oversized requests.
How to check the board and request
Technical articles describe a public career-site endpoint in this general form:

POST https://{host}/wday/cxs/{tenant}/{site}/jobsThe host or shard, tenant, and site are board-specific. The described JSON request can include properties such as appliedFacets, limit, offset, and searchText. This is a pattern reported for Workday career sites, not a universal public API specification. See the examples in Gutierrez’s report and Udaninn’s article.
- Inspect the full response body. Check
jobPostings,total, and any error fields rather than treating HTTP 200 as proof that the requested page was populated. - Repeat the same search with
limit: 20. Keep the board, search text, and facets unchanged so the page-size change is the meaningful difference. - Compare the results. If the smaller request returns postings while the larger request does not, the empty page is not sufficient evidence that the employer has no openings. If both are empty, investigate the search terms, facets, board, and current listings before drawing a conclusion.
- Validate behavior on the target board. Reports vary, so check the status code, response shape, and pagination fields that this board actually returns.
An empty array means that the response contains no postings for that request. By itself, it does not establish whether the employer has no jobs, whether the query matched none, or whether the board handled the requested page size differently than expected.

Request one page at a time with offsets
When a larger page size behaves unexpectedly, the reported practical workaround is to request 20 postings and advance through the results using offset. For example, after a first request with limit: 20 and offset: 0, the next request uses limit: 20 and offset: 20, then continues by the same increment while there are results to retrieve.

- Send the initial request with the board’s search parameters,
limit: 20, andoffset: 0. - Save the first response’s
totalvalue, if present. FetchSmith reports that later responses may showtotalas zero, so do not assume that a later value replaces the initial count correctly. - Request subsequent pages by increasing
offsetby 20 while keeping the search parameters consistent. - Check each response and stop when the board’s observed behavior indicates there are no more postings to retrieve. Validate how totals and offsets behave for that employer’s board.
Using smaller pages means more requests than asking for a single large page, and it does not guarantee that every board follows the same pagination behavior. It is a cautious implementation approach based on technical reports, not an official CXS requirement. Do not confuse CXS career boards with WQL
Workday’s Administrator Guide documents pagination for Workday Query Language (WQL): its query results use limit and offset, and a query cache returns at most 10,000 rows. That documentation concerns WQL, not the public career-site CXS jobs endpoint, so its pagination details and row cap should not be applied to career-board requests. Choosing between a large page and paginated requests
