A Solana wallet’s pending label is a confirmation state, not a diagnosis. The transaction may already be included at an early commitment level, waiting for stronger confirmation, rejected during simulation, dropped because its recent blockhash expired, or never forwarded by an unhealthy RPC node. Before submitting anything again, copy the transaction signature, look it up in your wallet’s details or a Solana explorer, and read the network status and error.
If the original transaction eventually lands, sending a second one can duplicate a payment or swap. If it failed because the blockhash expired, a retry must be rebuilt and signed with a fresh blockhash; repeatedly resending the same expired message will not repair it.
What “pending” means on Solana
Solana transactions pass through several stages: a client constructs and signs a message, an RPC node performs preflight checks and forwards it, a leader may include it in a block, and the cluster reports a commitment level. A wallet usually compresses those stages into labels such as pending, processing, confirmed, or failed.

An RPC response that contains a signature only shows that a node accepted the submission request. It does not prove inclusion. Conversely, a wallet timeout does not prove that the network rejected the transaction; the transaction could have been included while the wallet was waiting for a response.

Use the signature as the transaction’s identifier. Check whether it is processed, confirmed, finalized, explicitly failed, or not found. Also verify that the signature belongs to the transaction you intended to send, especially if you have clicked a retry button.
How Solana confirmation states differ
Commitment is the amount of cluster agreement a client requires before reporting success. These states are not interchangeable:

A wallet waiting for finalized can continue to show pending after the transaction is already processed or confirmed. Select the commitment appropriate for the action rather than treating every pending label as an error.
Why is my Solana transaction pending?
The wallet is waiting for a stronger commitment
The transaction may be included, but the wallet is waiting for confirmed or finalized. Open the transaction details and compare the reported state with the wallet’s stated confirmation requirement. A brief wait is normal when the cluster is voting or the wallet’s RPC endpoint is behind.
The RPC node has not forwarded or observed it
RPC providers do not always have the same view of the cluster at the same moment. A lagging node can accept your request, fail to see the relevant block, or stop reporting progress while another node has already processed the transaction. This is why checking the signature through an independent endpoint or explorer is useful.
The transaction is still within its blockhash window
Every Solana transaction uses a recent blockhash. Validators retain only a short processing-age window: the documented MAX_PROCESSING_AGE is 150 slots. Because the queue age is zero-indexed, the Cookbook explains that 151 stored hashes can be considered recent enough. Slot duration fluctuates, so the practical window is approximately 60 to 90 seconds, not a guaranteed wall-clock deadline.

The client timed out before learning the result
Mobile networks, browser extensions, and overloaded RPC connections can time out while the cluster continues processing. Treat the signature lookup as authoritative for the original attempt. Do not create a second transaction until you know whether the first one landed or expired.
How do I check a pending Solana transaction?
- Copy the signature. In the wallet, open the activity item and use its copy-signature or transaction-details control. A signature is a long base58 string; do not confuse it with the recipient address.
- Open the transaction in an explorer. Paste the signature into a Solana explorer or use the wallet’s built-in details page. Confirm that the displayed sender, recipient, amount, and program match what you intended.
- Read the status and commitment. Distinguish
processed,confirmed, andfinalized. A result marked failed is different from a result that is merely waiting for a stronger commitment. - Inspect the error and logs. Look for a blockhash-expiry message, insufficient funds, a compute-budget parsing error, an account-loading problem, or a program-specific instruction error.
- Check expiry before retrying. For a developer-built transaction, compare the current block height with the
lastValidBlockHeightreturned with its blockhash. For a wallet user, use the explorer’s confirmation and expiry information. If the transaction is still valid, allow the original attempt to finish; if it is expired and not found, prepare a new transaction.
Never provide a seed phrase or private key to someone offering support. Legitimate troubleshooting needs the public signature and error details, not secret wallet credentials.
Why did my Solana transaction fail?
Failure can happen before execution, during execution, or while the transaction is being propagated. Solana transactions are atomic: “If any instruction fails, the entire transaction fails and all state changes are reverted,” according to Solana Documentation. The fee is handled separately, so an unsuccessful transaction can still charge the fee payer.
Blockhash not found or an expired blockhash
BlockhashNotFound (often displayed as “blockhash not found”) means the node cannot use the blockhash in the message. The hash may have aged out of the processing window, may come from a different fork, or may be newer than the node’s simulation context. Once the block height passes lastValidBlockHeight, normal processing of that message has expired.
Insufficient funds
InsufficientFundsForFee means the fee payer cannot cover the required network fee and minimum-balance conditions. Check the balance on the correct Solana network and account, and remember that the amount being transferred is not the only required balance.
A program or instruction rejected the request
An application can reject a swap, token transfer, stake operation, or other instruction because an account is in the wrong state, a limit was exceeded, a signer is missing, or an input violates the program’s rules. The network can accept and execute the transaction while the invoked program returns an error. Read the program and instruction logs rather than retrying blindly.

Invalid or conflicting compute-budget instructions
Compute-budget instructions set limits and prioritization parameters. Malformed, duplicated, or conflicting instructions can fail parsing or simulation before the application instruction runs. Inspect the message and simulation output, then correct the transaction construction.
Account loading or missing-program errors
Execution can fail when a required program or account is absent, incorrectly listed, unavailable under the applicable account-data limits, or incompatible with the transaction format. Verify every account passed to the instruction and check the program’s current requirements.
What does “blockhash not found” mean?
The error is about the transaction’s recent-blockhash context, not necessarily about the recipient or application. Three situations are common:

lastValidBlockHeight. - RPC view mismatch: the hash was fetched from one node or commitment level and simulated or submitted through another node that has not reached that view.
- Fork or context difference: a
processedhash can be newer but more exposed to a dropped fork, while afinalizedhash is older and leaves less usable time.
The recovery is to verify that the original signature did not land, obtain a fresh blockhash, rebuild the message, sign again, and submit through a consistent RPC and commitment configuration. A priority fee cannot make an expired hash valid.
Wallet troubleshooting: a safe decision path
If the signature is confirmed or finalized
Do not retry. Confirm the recipient, amount, token mint, and application result in the transaction details. If an app’s screen still says pending, refresh that app or reconnect it; the on-chain result is authoritative.
If the signature is processed
Wait for the commitment required by the action. For a routine payment, confirmed is generally suitable; use finalized when reversal risk has serious financial or compliance consequences. Avoid sending a duplicate while the first signature is advancing.

If the signature shows failed
Read the displayed instruction or program error. Check the fee-payer SOL balance, the transaction-specific balance requirement, and any application limits or account conditions. A failed instruction reverted state changes, but the network fee may still have been deducted.

Check that you copied the complete signature and that the explorer is on the intended network. A local timeout can occur before submission, so the absence of a signature may mean there was no network attempt. If you do have a signature but it is not found after the validity window, verify expiry and then create a fresh transaction rather than repeatedly resending the old one.
Developer workflow for diagnosing failures
1. Fetch and retain blockhash metadata
Call getLatestBlockhash immediately before signing and retain both blockhash and lastValidBlockHeight. The height is needed to decide whether the message can still be processed. Do not fetch a hash, leave a transaction waiting for user approval for an extended period, and then assume the hash remains valid.
2. Keep commitment settings consistent
Use the same commitment and compatible context for blockhash acquisition, simulation, and send preflight. The Solana Cookbook recommends confirmed for most requests. processed gives a newer hash but carries more dropped-fork exposure; finalized reduces that exposure but starts further behind and shortens the usable window.
3. Simulate before sending
Simulation exposes program logs, account-loading failures, and estimated compute use without committing state. Check the simulation result and logs, then send with a preflight commitment aligned to the simulation context. A clean simulation does not guarantee inclusion, but it separates construction and instruction errors from propagation problems.

When a transaction is built against one RPC view and submitted through another, compare their slot, block height, and health information. A lagging node may be unable to determine the expiration height, forward a transaction only once, or drop it later. Route blockhash retrieval, simulation, and submission through a coherent endpoint strategy.

5. Verify the message and compute budget
Inspect the final signed message, including fee payer, recent blockhash, account keys, program IDs, and compute-budget instructions. The documented maximum compute limit is 1,400,000 compute units per transaction. Set limits from simulation rather than guessing, and remove invalid or conflicting budget instructions. For formats where these values are encoded in the message, changing them requires rebuilding and signing again.
6. Monitor confirmation and expiry
Track both the signature status and current block height. If the height exceeds lastValidBlockHeight and the original transaction did not land, stop polling that message as if it were still live. Rebuild it with a fresh blockhash and re-sign. If the original later appears, treat it as the authoritative attempt and investigate why your monitoring missed it.
Common symptoms and the next check

Do priority fees fix pending transactions?
A prioritization fee can improve a transaction’s scheduling likelihood when validators are competing for limited block space. It does not guarantee inclusion and does not fix an expired blockhash, an insufficient balance, malformed compute-budget instructions, missing accounts, or a program-level rejection.

Use current network or provider estimates when deciding whether a priority fee is appropriate. Keep the fee decision separate from diagnosis: first establish that the transaction is valid and within its blockhash window, then address scheduling competition.
Fees, size, and timing limits to keep in mind
- Base fee: Solana Documentation lists a documented base-fee limit of 5,000 lamports per signature. The actual amount depends on the transaction’s signatures and applicable fee rules.
- Processing age: The recent-blockhash limit is 150 slots; the zero-indexed queue can therefore contain 151 hashes considered recent enough. Slot times vary, making 60–90 seconds an approximation.
- Compute: The documented maximum transaction compute limit is 1,400,000 compute units.
- Serialized size: Solana Documentation lists 1,232 bytes as the maximum transaction size for the referenced format and separately notes a larger limit for the v1 format. Do not apply 1,232 bytes as a universal limit without identifying the message format.
Can I retry a failed Solana transaction?
Yes, but only after identifying the original result. A transaction that is explicitly failed can be retried after correcting the cause, such as funding the fee payer, fixing accounts, or changing invalid instruction parameters. A transaction whose blockhash expired must be rebuilt with a new blockhash and signed again. A transaction that is confirmed or finalized should not be retried because the intended state change already occurred.
For an ambiguous timeout, look up the original signature first. If it is still advancing, wait. If it is absent and demonstrably expired, create a new message. Preserve the old signature in logs so support or application operators can prove which attempt landed.

Collect enough data to reproduce the exact failure without exposing secrets:

- Simulation logs, compute estimate, final serialized message format, and compute-budget instructions.
- Transaction error, program logs, fee-payer address, and the observed commitment state.
These details distinguish a stale message from an RPC propagation problem and from an application instruction that correctly rejected its inputs. Technical documentation changes as Solana releases evolve, so verify implementation-specific limits and RPC behavior against the current Solana Documentation and Solana Developers guides before shipping production code.
