A PS5 game showing missing textures, invisible objects, visual corruption, low frame rate, stutter, a blank screen, or refusing to launch can have very different causes. The title AnyPS5 does not identify a particular game, update, error code, or confirmed hardware fault, so start by classifying the symptom and collecting the exact game and console details. Then work through low-risk software checks before using Safe Mode or considering data-destructive steps.
First identify the symptom
“Poor graphics” is not one diagnosis. A game can fail to load textures while maintaining a normal frame rate, or it can render correctly but run slowly. A blank screen may be a video-output problem, while a crash at launch can involve installation, storage, licensing, or system software. Treating every symptom as a failing GPU or an HDMI fault can lead to unnecessary purchases and data loss.

Write down the game title, installed game-update version, PS5 model, current system-software version, exact behavior, and every error code before changing settings. This information distinguishes a game-specific defect from a console-wide problem and gives support something reproducible to investigate.

Restart the PS5 completely
Close the game and choose Power > Restart PS5 from the control center, or turn the console off and start it again. A restart clears a temporary software state without deleting installed games or saved data. Test the same location and activity after the reboot so you can tell whether the behavior changed.

Check the game for an update
On the Home screen, highlight the game, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. PlayStation also says games and apps can update automatically when started, but a manual check is useful when a title has just received a patch or has been offline. Leave enough free storage for an update to download and install, and do not interrupt the console while installation is in progress.
Check PS5 system software
Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings, then choose the available update option. Install a pending update, restart if requested, and test the game again. Keep the game update and system-software versions in your notes; support may need both to reproduce the fault.
Compare with another game
Start a different installed game and observe whether it has the same rendering, frame-rate, blank-screen, or crash behavior. If only one title is affected, the evidence points toward that game’s files, update, settings, or compatibility rather than proving a console hardware failure. If several games show the same problem, record that pattern for support and continue with the system-level checks below.

If the game will not start
Check its storage location
If the title is installed on USB extended storage and does not start, move its game data to the PS5’s internal storage and try again. A launch failure on external storage does not establish that the game has missing graphics once it is running, so keep launch symptoms separate from in-game rendering symptoms.

Reinstall only after the basic checks
For a persistent launch problem, PlayStation’s game-start guidance includes deleting and reinstalling the game. Confirm that your saved data is synchronized or backed up before deleting anything, because deleting the game application is different from deleting saves, but an interrupted or mistaken operation can still cause avoidable loss. Redownload over a wired network connection when possible; it is generally less vulnerable to wireless interruptions during a large installation.
After reinstalling, launch the game before changing advanced graphics settings. If the fresh installation starts but the old one did not, keep the original error code and timing in your notes. If the same failure returns immediately, reinstalling has not identified the root cause; it is a reason to escalate with the game’s version and the reproduction steps.
Use Safe Mode for system-level problems, carefully
Safe Mode provides maintenance options that are different from the normal Settings menus. PlayStation’s guide specifically says: “Select Clear System Software Cache if you’re experiencing system feature issues or performance drops.” That statement supports trying the cache option for a system performance drop; it does not promise to restore a game’s missing textures or repair a defect in one title.

Enter Safe Mode
- Turn the PS5 off by holding the power button for about three seconds. Wait until the console is fully off.
- Press and hold the power button again. Release it after the second beep, which occurs about seven seconds after the first beep.
- Connect the controller to the PS5 with a USB cable and press the controller’s PS button.
- Read the description of each menu option before selecting it. The available options and their effects are shown on the Safe Mode screen.
Clear System Software Cache
Choose Clear System Software Cache when you are troubleshooting system-feature issues or a general performance drop. This is a maintenance action, not a game-file repair instruction. Reboot normally afterward and test the same repeatable scenario. If only one game’s assets remain missing, do not assume the cache operation has ruled out a game update or title-specific bug.

Rebuild Database
Rebuild Database scans the drive and creates a new database of system content. PlayStation describes it as useful for system-feature issues and for cases where a deleted game icon remains on the Home screen. The scan can take time, especially with a large drive. Do not turn the console off while it is working, and understand that this operation reorganizes content records rather than repairing the graphics code inside a game.
Do not confuse maintenance with a reset
Safe Mode includes options that erase data. Reset PS5 deletes user and game data and cannot be undone. Back up saved data and any other files before considering a destructive option, and use it only when you understand what will be removed and why a full reset is warranted. A reset is not a routine response to one game’s missing texture or an unexplained frame-rate complaint.
Match display troubleshooting to a blank screen
If the symptom is a blank screen or the display reports no signal, use the Safe Mode video-output options rather than assuming the game has missing graphics. The guide lists Change Video Output choices such as Change Resolution and Change HDCP Mode. These settings can help restore a visible signal after a resolution, television, receiver, or capture-device change.

Restore licenses only for account or crash symptoms
Restore Licenses is relevant when a game is locked, cannot be located, or crashes in circumstances that suggest an account entitlement problem. On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. PlayStation says this action does not affect your data.
License restoration is not described as a graphics-quality or frame-rate fix. If the game launches normally and only textures or performance are wrong, prioritize the game update, system checks, reproducible testing, and support evidence instead of repeating license restoration.
Test settings without losing your baseline
Before changing a game’s graphics mode, note the original setting and the exact scene where the problem occurs. If the title offers a performance or quality mode, switch once, restart the game, and test the same scene. A change that affects frame pacing can be useful evidence, but it does not prove a hardware fault or establish that one mode is defective across all games.
Use a short, repeatable test: load the same save, enter the same area, perform the same camera movement, and observe for a fixed period. Capture video when the issue appears. Avoid changing several options at once; otherwise you cannot tell which change mattered. If an update later changes the behavior, retain the earlier version and date in your notes rather than reporting only that the issue “went away.”
When the problem persists
Contact PlayStation Support when the game remains broken after the appropriate update, restart, storage, and maintenance checks, or when multiple games show a repeatable system-wide symptom. Provide:
- The exact game title, edition, installed update number, and whether it is a disc or digital installation.
- Your PS5 model, system-software version, and storage location.
- A precise description: missing assets, artifacts, low frame rate, stutter, blank screen, launch failure, or crash.
- Every error code or on-screen message, copied exactly.
- Steps to reproduce the behavior, including the save, level, menu path, or action that triggers it.
- A screenshot or video if possible, plus whether another game shows the same symptom.
Support can then determine whether the case matches a known title issue, an installation problem, an account problem, a display-output issue, or a broader console fault. General PS5 troubleshooting does not identify the cause of an unspecified game’s graphics defect, and none of these steps guarantees a fix for a particular title.

- Use Restore Licenses only for locked, missing, or account-related crashes.
- Escalate to PlayStation Support with the complete evidence instead of assuming a general fix applies to the unnamed game.
