If PlayStation Store says a game is unavailable in your region, the most likely explanation is the country or region assigned to your PlayStation account. Store catalogs and services differ by country. First identify whether the message concerns the full digital game, downloadable content for a disc, or a voucher code: those are separate problems with different checks. Sony does not let you change an account’s country or region after the account is created, so changing the console’s location, using a foreign voucher, or connecting through a VPN is not a documented solution.
Identify what is actually unavailable
The word unavailable can describe three different situations. Correctly identifying the item prevents you from applying a fix that cannot work.

A game’s main digital listing and its add-ons can therefore have different symptoms. An add-on failure does not by itself prove that the main game is region-blocked, and a rejected voucher does not show that the game is unavailable.

Sony states that content and services available on PlayStation Store vary by country or region. Publishers may set different release dates, ratings, language editions, age restrictions, distribution rights, or commercial terms for each market. A title can consequently appear in one country’s Store while being absent or temporarily unavailable in another.

The Store uses the country or region recorded on your PlayStation account when it determines which catalog, prices, payment options, vouchers, and services you can use. Your console’s physical location is not the setting that defines the account’s Store. Sony’s public guidance confirms that catalogs vary, but it does not give a universal reason for every individual game listing. The publisher may have delayed a local launch, withdrawn a product, or never released that edition in the market.
Check the country or region on your account
Before changing settings or buying anything, confirm the region attached to the account that is signed in to PlayStation Store. On the web, Sony’s Account Management instructions use this path:
- Sign in to Account Management with the affected PlayStation account.
- Open Your Information.
- Select Edit next to Residential Address.
- Read the country or region shown in the address details.
The PlayStation App exposes the same information under Account Information and Residential Address. Check the account that owns the game or is attempting the purchase; a console can contain several accounts with different regions.

Sony says the country or region cannot be changed after an account is created. That limitation is why selecting the correct country during account setup matters. If the account was created with the wrong market, the practical choices are to use that account for its existing Store or, where lawful and appropriate, create a separate account whose details genuinely belong to another country. A new account does not transfer purchases, subscriptions, trophies, or saved progress from the original account, so it is not a simple conversion of the old one.
If the main digital game is unavailable
Compare the listing in the account’s own Store
Sign in with the affected account and search from that account’s PlayStation Store rather than relying on a search result, a friend’s link, or a listing seen in another country. Confirm whether the page says unavailable, shows a future release date, or is absent entirely. A different account on the same PS5 can show a different catalog because account regions are independent.
Check the publisher’s release information
Look for the game’s official regional release announcement, support page, or Store notice. For season passes and other country-specific items, PlayStation advises checking the Store and the publisher’s information for availability and release timing. If the publisher has not released the title in your market, PlayStation Support generally cannot add it to that region’s catalog.

Do not treat location tricks as a purchase method
Changing the PS5’s time zone, setting a different console location, or routing traffic through a VPN does not change the country assigned to the PlayStation account. Sony’s documented account and voucher rules provide no assurance that such methods will expose a different catalog, permit payment, or preserve access later. Avoid entering false residential information or making a purchase that conflicts with the account and payment terms.
If a disc game’s add-on or currency does not work
Disc-based games carry a regional license. Sony’s add-on guidance says the disc’s country or region must match the account’s country or region for Store add-ons and in-game currency to work with that disc. This is a compatibility check, not a statement that every digital copy of the game is unavailable in your market.
- Find the country or region marking on the disc case, insert, or product packaging. If the marking is unclear, ask the retailer or publisher to identify the disc edition.
- Check the signed-in account’s country or region using the Account Management or PlayStation App path above.
- Compare the two regions exactly. A disc imported from another market can fail to recognize locally purchased downloadable content even when the base game starts normally.
- If they differ, do not buy additional local add-ons expecting them to attach to that disc. Obtain content intended for the disc’s matching Store region, or use a disc edition that matches your account, subject to the publisher’s terms.
Regional compatibility can also affect season passes and in-game currency. The product page may be visible but still incompatible with the installed disc. Keep the purchase receipt and packaging details if you need the publisher or PlayStation Support to investigate.

If a voucher code is rejected
PlayStation Store voucher codes are region-specific. Sony says a voucher can be redeemed only in the same Store region as the account. A code bought for another country therefore cannot be used as a generic way to obtain a game that your account cannot see.
- Check the voucher’s country or region on the card, receipt, or retailer listing.
- Compare it with the account region shown in Account Management.
- Check every character carefully and confirm that the code has not already been redeemed or expired, if an expiry date applies.
- Ask the retailer about a refund or exchange when the wrong regional code was sold, rather than trying to alter the account.
Because Sony does not permit changing an established account’s region, support cannot simply convert a mismatched voucher into local credit. Keep the receipt and a photograph of the code’s regional marking for any retailer or support claim.
When an add-on was purchased but is missing
A missing add-on can be a licensing or installation problem even when the Store listing was available. Work through these checks in order:

- Open the account’s transaction history and confirm that the purchase completed on the account you are using.
- Check the game’s page or your game library to see whether the add-on is downloaded. Start the download if it is listed but not installed.
- Launch the game and inspect its add-on, downloadable-content, or in-game menu. Some content appears only after a particular story mission, tutorial, or account sign-in.
- Restart the console and check for system and game updates.
- Use the console’s option to restore licenses, then restart the game. Restoring licenses can refresh ownership information; it does not make a region-incompatible disc work.
- If the add-on remains absent, reinstall the game and the add-on, provided your saved data is backed up or stored safely.
If the disc and account regions differ, stop before buying replacement content: the mismatch is the likely cause. For a compatible purchase that still fails, gather the transaction number, account ID, game edition, disc region if applicable, console model, and a screenshot or video of the error.
Can you buy a game from another region?
There is no supported switch that converts an existing PlayStation account to another country. A foreign voucher must still match the account’s Store region, and a VPN or console-location change does not alter that account record. Buying an imported physical disc may introduce the same add-on compatibility issue if its regional license differs from your account.
Some players create a separate account for a different country, but that approach has significant limits: the account must be created with accurate information, purchases remain tied to that account, payment and voucher rules still apply, and access to downloadable content can depend on the account that owns it. Sony’s published guidance does not promise that this arrangement will provide every title, language, payment method, or future update. Treat it as an account-management decision, not a guaranteed fix for an unavailable listing.

When to contact the publisher or PlayStation Support
Contact the publisher first for a game-specific availability question
If the title is absent only in your market, has an unexplained release delay, or an add-on is incompatible despite matching regions, the publisher can confirm whether that edition is sold in your country and whether a local launch is planned. PlayStation specifically directs unresolved third-party game issues to the publisher.
Contact PlayStation Support for Store or purchase failures
Use PlayStation Support when the account region is correct but a completed purchase, voucher, license, or Store transaction still fails. Include:
- The exact game, add-on, or voucher name and edition.
- The account’s country or region and the console model.
- The date, amount, and transaction number for a purchase.
- The disc region marking when physical media is involved.
- The complete on-screen error and a screenshot or short video.
- Steps you already tried, including license restoration or reinstallation.
Do not send a full voucher code in a public forum. Provide sensitive redemption details only through the official support channel when requested.
