The “other Marvel superhero” is the Hulk: the collectible in question is an 8-inch Mego Spider-Man figure displayed on a Hulk/Spider-Man card, not a different Spider-Man figure. A seller described one example as a 1978 Canadian issue with English- and French-language packaging, but Mego Museum dates a related Parkdale Novelty card variant to 1979. That difference matters: the two dates come from different sources and do not establish the exact production year of the auctioned example.
What makes this Spider-Man figure unusual?
The notable feature is the card backing. A historical auction listing reproduced on Mego Talk described an 8-inch Mego Spider-Man on a Hulk/Spider-Man variant card. The Hulk connection is in the packaging design, not a separate character or a different Spider-Man sculpt. The listing called the figure a Canadian 1978 issue and described the packaging as bilingual. Mego Talk’s reproduced auction listing is the source for those details.
Was the card variant made in 1978 or 1979?
The available accounts do not line up exactly. The seller’s description of the auctioned figure calls it a 1978 Canadian issue. Separately, Mego Museum’s Spider-Man gallery says Spider-Man was produced from 1973 to 1982 and identifies a Parkdale Novelty card variant dated 1979, with Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk shown on the front. The gallery documents a relevant Canadian variant, but it does not confirm that the specific item in the auction listing was issued in 1978.
Canadian packaging provides context for the bilingual description. Mego Museum’s Hulk gallery shows Canadian packaging examples from Parkdale Novelty and Grand Toys and notes English-and-French text. That supports the regional packaging context, but it does not resolve the 1978-versus-1979 dating for the specific Spider-Man card.

What is documented about its rarity and price?
The seller used the word “rare,” but the available sources give no production total, surviving-example count, or measured rarity rate for this exact figure-and-card combination. The documented feature is the card variant; how many were made or remain is not established.
The reproduced listing reports a sale of US $891 in an auction that ended August 28, 2014. That is one historical result, not a current valuation or a representative price range. A present-day price would depend on the specific item and the market when it is offered.

What should collectors compare when identifying an example?
Use the packaging details to describe and compare examples rather than treating any one detail as proof of authenticity. Mego Museum’s galleries distinguish regional card types, while the historical listing records a specific carded figure and its condition. Useful details to document include:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Card front and character art: Check whether the front shows the Spider-Man/Hulk pairing associated with the variant.
- Issuer and regional packaging: Note whether the card identifies Parkdale Novelty or Grand Toys, and record the language printed on it.
- Printed date: Photograph and transcribe the date on the card; do not assume that every related card variant carries the same year.
- Condition: Describe the card and blister separately, including damage or wear. Condition is part of an example’s description, not evidence of its production date.
These comparison points help characterize a listing but are not a complete authentication method. The historical seller’s “1978” description should remain attributed to that listing unless an example’s own documentation establishes more.
