When a business is missing from Bing, first identify what is actually absent. A Bing Maps or local-results listing is managed in Bing Places; a missing website URL is an indexing problem handled in Bing Webmaster Tools. They use different eligibility checks, data sources and fixes.
The usual local causes are an unclaimed or unverified listing, inaccurate or conflicting business information, ineligible location details or a profile that has not been matched correctly. A website can be absent even when the local listing is present because Bing has not crawled or indexed the site, or because a technical, quality, penalty or malware issue prevents indexing.
Local listing or website page: which one is missing?
“Why is my business not showing up on Bing?” can describe two separate searches. Check both before changing anything.

A listing can be present for one business-name and location query but absent for another. Test several realistic variations before concluding that Bing has no record.

Confirm what Bing already knows
Search the business and its contact details
- Search Bing for the exact business name together with its phone number.
- Repeat the search with the street address, city and state or region.
- Open Bing Maps and search the name, then search the address by itself.
- Try the wording customers use, such as the business category plus city, without assuming that one query represents every local result.
If a map listing appears with incorrect information, you have a profile-management problem rather than a completely missing listing. Record the displayed name, address, phone, website and map location so you can compare them with the information you control.
Look up the profile before creating another one
Use the Bing Places owner workflow to find the existing record. If it is yours, claim it and complete ownership verification. Creating a second profile when an existing record is available can leave conflicting entries and makes it harder to determine which information Bing should trust.

Bing Places supports a business with a physical address that customers can visit during normal operations, and a business whose employees travel to customers in a defined service area. Every business must provide a valid address for verification.

A service-area business may hide its verification address from public search results. Do not publish a private home or back-office address merely to make the listing look complete. Enter the valid address when Bing asks for verification, then use the profile’s service-area settings to control what customers see.

Departments and “located in” businesses
A department inside a larger organization and a business located within another business can have separate listing relationships. Do not turn a department, counter or kiosk into an independent duplicate listing without checking how Bing represents that relationship. If the name, entrance, phone number and customer experience are not genuinely separate, a second listing may be inappropriate.
Claim, verify and correct the Bing Places profile
Claim an existing listing
- Go to the current owner portal at Bing.com/forbusiness.
- Search for the business name and location.
- Select the matching record instead of starting a duplicate.
- Choose the claim or ownership option and follow the verification method offered for the account and business.
- Return to the profile and confirm that its status shows the claim and verification steps as complete or identifies the remaining action.
If no matching record appears, use the same portal to add the business. Supply the legal or customer-facing business details accurately; do not add keywords to the name field or use a location where customers cannot actually be served.
Check every core field
Bing recommends keeping the business name, address, phone, website and other key information accurate, consistent and up to date across online channels. Review these fields in the profile and compare them with your official website, social profiles and other major directories:

- Use the same real-world business name everywhere, including punctuation and suite information where it matters.
- Use a deliverable street address for verification. A service-area provider can hide that address publicly rather than substituting a mailbox or virtual location.
- Use the phone number customers actually answer, with the correct country and area code.
- Enter the canonical website URL and check that it opens without a login or redirect loop.
- Keep hours, holiday closures, categories, photos and service-area details current.
Bing says it compares submitted details with information available across search engines, websites and social platforms. Conflicting names, addresses or phone numbers can make a record harder to match confidently. Consistency improves data reliability, but it does not guarantee a ranking or inclusion for every query.

Review imported data before accepting it
If you import a profile from Google, inspect the resulting record rather than assuming it is a copy of your preferred data. Bing’s help documentation says matched records may use Google information to overwrite Bing Places data during synchronization. Correct any imported name, address, phone, hours, category or website that does not reflect the business, then save the authoritative version.
Use the portal’s status and recommendations
The current Bing owner experience includes profile status and listing recommendations. A recommendation may ask for photos, opening hours, a website or social links, or segment-specific information such as a restaurant menu or online ordering. Treat these prompts as a checklist for missing information, not as a promise that completing every item will produce a particular position.
Microsoft announced on October 3, 2025, that the business-owner experience moved from bingplaces.com to Bing.com/forbusiness. The announcement described improved Google imports, bulk editing, real-time status updates and the recommendation tool. If an older bookmark fails or opens an outdated workflow, enter through the current Bing.com portal instead.
When the website itself is missing from Bing
A local listing does not place every page of a website in Bing’s web index. If customers cannot find the website URL in ordinary web results, investigate crawling and indexing separately in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Check whether Bing has indexed the URL
- Search Bing for the exact URL, using the full address of the homepage or affected page.
- Check the site’s property in Bing Webmaster Tools and open URL Inspection.
- Read the reported index status and errors, including any suggested action such as requesting indexing, editing robots.txt or contacting support.
URL Inspection reports whether Bing can index the inspected address and surfaces errors that are specific to that URL. A request for indexing is a diagnostic and submission action, not a guarantee of inclusion or a promised correction time.
Remove crawl and index blockers
- Robots.txt: Make sure the site’s robots.txt file does not disallow Bingbot from the affected page or an essential folder.
- Noindex: Inspect the page source and server headers. Bing states that a page containing
<meta name="robots" content="NOINDEX">will not be added to its index. Remove the directive only when the page should be public. - Webmaster Tools URL block: Check for a deliberate URL-blocking rule in the site’s Bing Webmaster Tools account and remove it if it was accidental.
- Access failures: Confirm that the URL returns a normal successful response to visitors and does not require authentication, fail intermittently or redirect to an unavailable address.
- Quality, penalty or malware problems: Bing’s indexing guidance also identifies insufficient site quality, a penalty and malware as possible causes. Resolve the reported issue, secure the site and inspect the account for messages before requesting another crawl.
Do not add a noindex removal or robots.txt change blindly. If a page is intentionally private, administrative or duplicate content, leaving it out of the index may be correct.
Common situations that need a different fix
The business moved or changed its phone number
Update the claimed Bing Places profile and every public channel that still shows the old details. A mixture of old and new addresses can look like two businesses or prevent a confident match. Keep the change history internally so staff can recognize legitimate older references.
The business serves customers at their locations
Use service-area settings and hide the verification address when appropriate. The requirement to provide an address for verification does not mean that a private address must appear in search results.

A listing appears in Maps but not for a category search
That result does not prove the listing is broken. Test the exact name, phone and address first, then review category, service area, hours and location data. Bing does not publish a universal inclusion or ranking guarantee, so an absent category result can require relevance and profile review rather than a new listing.
The website is indexed but the local listing is absent
Continue with Bing Places eligibility, claim and verification checks. Website indexing does not automatically create a local profile.
The local listing is present but the website is absent
Leave the profile intact and follow the Webmaster Tools branch. Correcting a map address will not remove a robots.txt block or a page-level noindex directive.

- Classify the symptom: decide whether the missing item is a map listing, a website URL or incorrect profile data.
- Search several ways: use the exact name, phone, address and realistic city or service-area terms in Bing Search and Bing Maps.
- Open the owner portal: enter through Bing.com/forbusiness, locate the record and check its status.
- Validate eligibility: confirm a customer-open address or a service area served by employees, with a valid verification address on file.
- Claim or update: complete ownership verification, correct core fields and avoid duplicate department or kiosk listings.
- Reconcile public data: align name, address, phone, website, hours and categories across the business’s online channels.
- Inspect the website separately: use URL Inspection, then check robots.txt,
noindex, URL blocks, access errors, quality notices, penalties and malware. - Escalate with evidence: if the account status or inspection report remains unresolved, use Bing Places help’s country or region support route and provide the business details, affected URL, screenshots and exact error text.
No official guidance establishes a universal success rate, ranking guarantee or recovery time. The exact cause remains account- and URL-specific until Bing’s profile status or inspection diagnostics identify it.
