Necesse is now owned at the studio level by Fireshine Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enad Global 7 AB (EG7). On 7 October 2026, EG7 announced that Fireshine had acquired Fair Games ApS, the Aarhus-based Danish studio that EG7 identifies as Necesse’s developer and owner.
Fair Games is not being replaced as the creative team in the announcement. Founder and CEO Mads Skovgaard remains managing director, the studio continues operating from Aarhus, and Fair Games says it will keep leading game direction and updates. Fireshine is expected to add publishing and porting capacity. Those plans describe the intended transition; they do not confirm a console release, a larger update, a price change or any other specific player-facing launch.
Who owns Necesse now?
As of 7 October 2026, Fair Games ApS has been acquired by Fireshine Games. Because Fireshine is wholly owned by EG7, the ownership chain is:
- Enad Global 7 AB (EG7) owns Fireshine Games.
- Fireshine Games owns the acquired Fair Games ApS studio.
- Fair Games remains the named developer and continues to lead Necesse’s game direction under the announced arrangement.
This is a completed studio acquisition, not merely a contract for distributing the game. EG7’s disclosure calls Fair Games the developer and owner of Necesse and says the transaction was consolidated in EG7’s reporting on the announcement date.

Did Fireshine buy Necesse or the studio?
Fireshine bought Fair Games ApS, the studio behind Necesse. That distinction matters because ownership of the company can include the game’s intellectual property, development operations and commercial rights, while the people making the game can continue working in the same studio.
EG7 reported that Fair Games was debt-free and consisted of eight employees and two freelancers when the deal was announced. The announcement does not disclose a future hiring plan, guarantees for every employee or freelancer, individual contract changes, or a detailed reporting structure. It therefore supports continuity of the studio, not assumptions about every person’s long-term employment.
Disclosed transaction terms
| Component | What EG7 disclosed | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront payment | US$4.0 million | Cash paid at closing, as stated by EG7 |
| Additional consideration | Up to US$2 million tied to content and platform releases | Conditional consideration; it is not an automatically payable amount |
| Performance earn-out | 10–20% of net revenue after deduction of cost for services sold, subject to targets | A target-based earn-out rather than a fixed purchase price |
| Funding | EG7’s available cash | No debt financing was identified in the announcement |
| Reporting date | Consolidated by EG7 from 7 October 2026 | The effective reporting date given in the disclosure |
The announced components should not be added together as a guaranteed final price. The maximum additional consideration depends on content and platform releases, and the earn-out depends on financial targets. EG7 did not publish a single all-in purchase price.
What is Necesse, and what platforms does it currently support?
Necesse is a top-down sandbox action-adventure game set in a procedurally generated world. Fair Games’ press material lists Steam on PC, Mac and Linux as its platforms. The game entered Early Access on 12 December 2019 and reached version 1.0 on 16 October 2025.

Mads Skovgaard originally created the game alone under the alias Fair and moved to full-time development in 2019. The official Steam publisher pages identify Fair Games ApS as both developer and publisher and list Necesse, a Supporter Pack and the Original Soundtrack as Steam products. That storefront information establishes digital Steam availability; it does not establish a physical edition, a boxed soundtrack or a game-specific accessory sold elsewhere.
Will the same developers keep making Necesse?
The announced plan keeps Fair Games in charge of the game’s creative work. In its Steam FAQ, Fair Games said it would continue leading the direction of Necesse and its upcoming updates while consulting Fireshine. Mads Skovgaard remains managing director, and EG7 said the studio would continue operating from Aarhus.
Fireshine’s involvement is intended to support the team rather than replace it. Fair Games said it had been seeking a long-term partner and expected help with publishing and porting, allowing developers to spend more time on the game. Fireshine also brings publishing experience in survival-crafting games, according to Fireshine CEO Brian Foote, who called Necesse “a perfect addition to Fireshine Games’ portfolio and a natural fit with our experience in survival-crafting games.”
Continuing management and location are the specific commitments in the announcement. They should not be expanded into a promise that staffing, freelancer participation or individual roles will never change.

What changes for development after the acquisition?
The practical change is a division of work. Fair Games remains responsible for game direction and updates, while Fireshine is expected to take on larger, time-consuming publishing and porting tasks. That can give a small team more development time, but the announcement does not specify a new production schedule, a revised roadmap or a porting team.
| Area | Before the announcement | Stated arrangement after acquisition |
|---|---|---|
| Studio ownership | Fair Games was an independent Aarhus studio | Fair Games is acquired by Fireshine, an EG7 subsidiary |
| Creative direction | Led by Fair Games | Fair Games says it continues to lead direction and updates |
| Publishing workload | Handled by the small studio | Fireshine is expected to provide publishing support |
| Porting workload | No announced Fireshine role | Fireshine is expected to help with porting |
| Community contact | Developer-led communication | Fair Games says it will keep responding on Discord, Reddit and Steam |
| Platforms | Steam on PC, Mac and Linux | Additional platforms are described as opportunities, not confirmed releases |
Will Necesse get fewer updates?
Fair Games told players that update frequency would probably remain “pretty similar.” It also said updates could become larger because the team expected to have more development time once Fireshine helped with publishing and porting. This is the developer’s expectation, not a binding delivery guarantee.
The studio described Necesse as community-driven and said developers would continue responding on Discord, Reddit and Steam. Players should treat those channels and later official announcements as the places to verify schedules, patch details and any change in communication practice. The acquisition itself does not publish a new update cadence or guarantee a particular number of patches.

Not yet on the evidence announced. EG7 identified additional platforms and geographic expansion as opportunities for Fireshine and Fair Games. Fair Games’ FAQ says Fireshine will help with porting, but neither announcement names a console, confirms that a port is in production, sets a release date or gives a regional price.

That means “console version planned” would be too strong. The accurate position is that platform expansion is part of the strategic rationale and may be pursued. Until a platform, development status and launch timing are announced, current confirmed support remains Steam on PC, Mac and Linux.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will the acquisition change the game for current players?
There is no announced immediate change to the Steam product, price, ownership of existing purchases or update access. The game reached version 1.0 before the acquisition, and the announced operational plan keeps Fair Games directing updates.
Possible longer-term effects fall into two categories:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Development capacity: publishing and porting assistance could free the small team to spend more time on updates, with the possibility of larger releases.
- Distribution reach: Fireshine and EG7 may pursue other platforms or regions, but no specific release has been approved or dated in the announcement.
Neither possibility changes what a current Steam player can rely on today. Existing players should look for a dated patch note or platform announcement rather than infer a change from the acquisition alone.

What do the sales and revenue figures show?
In its transaction announcement, EG7 reported approximately 2.5 million units sold, approximately US$14.4 million in gross revenue since launch and a 93 percent Steam user rating. These are figures reported by the acquirer in 2026; the announcement does not present them as an independently audited statistical study. Sales, revenue and user ratings can continue changing after the disclosure.
The numbers help explain why EG7 viewed Necesse as an evergreen opportunity, but they do not predict future sales or prove that a port will be profitable. The earn-out language also shows that part of the consideration is linked to future performance and targets rather than guaranteed at closing.
Why would a small game studio accept an acquisition?
Fair Games founder and CEO Mads Skovgaard said the studio had been looking for a long-term partner “to secure a successful evergreen future for Necesse.” He also said joining Fireshine would add publishing capabilities to support continued growth.

For a small team, publishing work can include storefront management, localization coordination, marketing, ratings submissions, platform certification and launch operations. Porting introduces another set of technical and compliance tasks. Moving those responsibilities to a larger partner can reduce the amount of time developers spend away from core game work, although the announcement does not promise that every task will transfer immediately or that every planned platform will ship.
What should players and developers watch next?
The acquisition announcement leaves several questions open. The most useful indicators are concrete announcements rather than speculation:
- A named platform and a confirmed port status, release window and region.
- A Necesse roadmap or update post showing whether release size or cadence changes.
- Steam announcements identifying any price, package, account or storefront changes.
- Statements from Fair Games about staffing, studio operations or new development roles.
- Fireshine or EG7 disclosures that clarify content-release milestones connected to the additional consideration.
Until those details appear, the clearest picture is ownership change with creative continuity: Fireshine owns the acquired studio through EG7, while Fair Games remains the team publicly responsible for Necesse’s direction and updates.
