Textron Inc. owns Bell Helicopter. Bell’s current company description identifies it as a wholly owned subsidiary of Textron, and Textron lists Bell among its aerospace brands. The business is now generally called Bell or Bell Textron Inc.; “Bell Helicopter” remains a familiar legacy name.
Bell is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and develops, manufactures and supports helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft for military and commercial customers. It also supplies parts and services for the aircraft already in operation.
The direct ownership answer
Bell Helicopter is part of Textron Inc. Bell’s current headquarters are in Fort Worth, Texas. A Bell release dated September 8, 2025, uses the name “Bell Textron Inc.” and describes it as “a Textron Inc. company,” providing a recent confirmation of the same relationship.
Is Bell Helicopter the same company as Bell Textron?
Why both names appear
“Bell Helicopter” is the name many people still use because it was the company’s widely recognized historical identity. Current official materials generally use “Bell,” while legal and corporate references may use “Bell Textron Inc.” The two terms point to the same Textron-owned aviation business in ordinary conversation, but they do not establish a separate, independent owner.
The available official material confirms the present ownership and naming usage, but it does not provide a complete legal-name-change or acquisition chronology. The 13,000 figure is an installed-base measure, so it describes aircraft already operating and receiving support. It should not be interpreted as Bell’s annual production, annual deliveries or the number of helicopters currently owned by Textron. Likewise, the 26% figure is a revenue contribution for one stated year, not an ownership percentage: Bell is wholly owned even though it generated 26% of Textron’s 2024 revenue.
What “wholly owned” means in this case
A wholly owned subsidiary is controlled by its parent because the parent owns all of the subsidiary’s equity. For a reader trying to identify the owner, this is stronger and clearer than saying that Textron is a major investor or strategic partner. Bell belongs to Textron’s corporate group.
Wholly owned does not mean Bell has no separate operations, employees, facilities, aircraft programs or customer contracts. Aircraft, manuals, news coverage and historical references may use “Bell Helicopter,” especially when discussing older models or earlier corporate materials. Search engines and aviation communities also preserve the older wording, so it remains a useful way to find information about Bell aircraft.

Current corporate usage
For current ownership questions, “Bell” and “Bell Textron Inc.” are the safer terms. Bell’s present company description uses the Textron subsidiary relationship, and the September 8, 2025, Bell release identifies Bell Textron Inc. as a Textron company. Those current references answer the ownership question without requiring a precise account of every historical name used by the business.
How to verify the ownership yourself
If you encounter a conflicting claim, check the wording and date of the source rather than relying on a product listing or an unsourced profile. The following checks distinguish current corporate information from historical references:
- Read Bell’s current “About Bell” company description and look for its statement that Bell is a wholly owned subsidiary of Textron Inc.
- Check Textron’s investor-relations overview, where Bell is listed among Textron’s brands.
- Use recent Bell corporate announcements, such as the September 8, 2025, release that describes Bell Textron Inc. as a Textron company.

“Does Textron own only the name?”
No. The official descriptions concern Bell as an operating aerospace company, not merely a trademark. Bell’s aircraft, parts and services are identified as part of its business within Textron.
