Scag Power Equipment makes Scag lawn mowers. Scag is a division of Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc., which purchased the company in 1986. Scag says its mowers and other outdoor power equipment are fabricated and assembled at Metalcraft facilities in Mayville, West Bend, Beaver Dam, Fall River, and New Berlin, Wisconsin. Plastic fuel tanks are molded at Metalcraft’s dedicated plastics facility in Horicon, Wisconsin.
There is not one plant that can accurately be named as the source of every Scag mower. A certificate for the SFC and SFCII mower families identifies Metalcraft’s Fall River Plant in Fall River, Wisconsin, but that model-specific document does not establish the manufacturing site for every other family. To identify a particular mower’s origin, use its model documentation and an authorized Scag dealer rather than assuming all units come from Fall River.
Who owns and makes Scag lawn mowers?
Scag Power Equipment is the mower maker
Scag Power Equipment is the operating brand that designs and produces Scag zero-turn, stand-on, walk-behind, and other outdoor power equipment. Scag describes itself as a division of Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc. The company says it makes its own outdoor power equipment and does not make mowers for other brands. That statement distinguishes Scag from a label that simply buys finished machines from an outside original-equipment manufacturer.

Metalcraft of Mayville is the parent company
Scag’s company history says Scag was established in 1983. Metalcraft of Mayville purchased Scag Power Equipment in 1986, making Metalcraft the parent company behind the Scag division. The ownership relationship has practical importance: Scag says its products are fabricated at its parent company’s Wisconsin operations, so the brand and the manufacturing organization are closely connected.

Where are Scag mowers manufactured?
Scag identifies a Wisconsin manufacturing footprint rather than a single universal assembly plant. Its company information names five Wisconsin factory locations and a separate plastics facility:
| Location | What Scag establishes | What is not established for every model |
|---|---|---|
| Mayville, Wisconsin | Scag names a Metalcraft factory used in its manufacturing footprint. | A universal model-by-model assignment is not stated. |
| West Bend, Wisconsin | Scag names a Metalcraft factory used in its manufacturing footprint. | A universal model-by-model assignment is not stated. |
| Beaver Dam, Wisconsin | Scag names a Metalcraft factory used in its manufacturing footprint. | A universal model-by-model assignment is not stated. |
| Fall River, Wisconsin | Scag names a factory; an SFC/SFCII certificate identifies the Fall River Plant for those mower families. | The certificate does not prove that all Scag models are built there. |
| New Berlin, Wisconsin | Scag names a Metalcraft factory used in its manufacturing footprint. | A universal model-by-model assignment is not stated. |
| Horicon, Wisconsin | Metalcraft Plastics Group’s dedicated plastics facility molds Scag plastic fuel tanks. | This is a plastics operation, not evidence that complete mowers are assembled there. |
Therefore, the accurate short answer to “Where are Scag mowers made?” is “in Scag/Metalcraft facilities in Wisconsin,” with the exact plant varying by product or component. Saying that every Scag mower is made in Fall River would go beyond the available model-specific evidence.

What Scag says happens inside its Wisconsin factories
Scag describes a broad, in-house production sequence. The company says its Wisconsin factories perform punching, pressing, bending, cutting, welding, painting, assembly, packaging, and shipping. These descriptions are Scag’s account of its operations; they are not an independent factory audit or a guarantee that every step for every model occurs in one building.

Forming and cutting metal
Punching and pressing create holes, bends, and formed shapes in sheet or plate material. Bending and cutting prepare parts to the dimensions required for decks, frames, guards, brackets, and other fabricated structures. Keeping these operations within the parent company gives Scag control over tooling and production changes, although it does not mean every raw material originates in Wisconsin.
Welding and finishing
Welding joins the prepared steel parts into structural assemblies. Scag also lists painting as part of its factory work. Paint and textured finishes protect steel from exposure and provide the appearance associated with the finished mower. The company specifically refers to Cat’s Eye Gold and textured black fabricated steel components in its manufacturing description.
Assembly, packaging, and shipping
After fabrication and finishing, assemblies are combined with engines, transmissions, controls, wheels, electrical parts, and other equipment needed for a complete mower. Scag lists assembly, packaging, and shipping among its Wisconsin operations. A mower can consequently contain parts sourced from outside suppliers even when its steel fabrication and final assembly are handled within the Scag/Metalcraft organization.

How much of a Scag mower is made by Scag?
Scag says virtually every Cat’s Eye Gold and textured black fabricated steel component is made from scratch by Scag. The company identifies wheels as an exception to that statement. This is a claim about fabricated steel components, not a claim that every item on a mower is manufactured by Scag or Metalcraft.

Engines, hydraulic components, tires, wheels, batteries, electronic controls, fasteners, and other purchased parts may come from specialized suppliers. The available company description does not provide a complete supplier list or a percentage of domestic content. “Made in Wisconsin” should therefore be understood as a description of Scag’s stated fabrication and assembly footprint, not as proof that every raw material and component is Wisconsin-made.
Plastic fuel tanks have a separate facility
Scag says its Metalcraft Plastics Group molds plastic fuel tanks at a dedicated facility in Horicon, Wisconsin. Horicon is part of the manufacturing network, but the statement does not say that complete mowers are assembled there. It is a component-production location within the broader operation.
What the SFC and SFCII certificate proves
One of the clearest plant-specific documents is a Scag certificate for the SFC and SFCII mower families. It names Metalcraft of Mayville’s Fall River Plant in Fall River, Wisconsin, as the manufacturing site. That is useful evidence for those two families because it ties named products to a named plant.

Scag sells multiple mower families, and its public manufacturing description lists several factories. Unless a manual, certificate, product record, or dealer confirms a different family’s plant, the responsible wording is that Scag manufactures within its Wisconsin network and that plant assignments can be model-specific.

How to find the manufacturing location for a specific Scag mower
If the plant matters for a purchase, warranty question, fleet record, or regulatory file, use a model-specific process rather than relying on a general “made in Wisconsin” statement.
- Record the exact model and serial number. A family name such as “zero-turn” is not enough; Scag’s product lines can have different documentation and support terms.
- Check the owner’s manual, certificate, and product literature. Look for a manufacturing statement tied to that model or family. The SFC/SFCII certificate is an example of the level of specificity that can identify a plant.
- Ask an authorized Scag dealer. Scag directs customers to its dealer network for product information, technical service, genuine parts, current availability, and pricing. Give the dealer the complete model and serial information so the answer can be matched to the correct machine.
- Do not infer the plant from the dealer’s location. A mower sold by a dealer in one state may have been fabricated or assembled at any of the Wisconsin facilities Scag names.
- Keep the written answer with your equipment records. If the origin is needed for a business, municipality, or warranty file, retain the model-specific document or dealer response instead of relying on a general web description.
How Scag sells and supports its mowers
Authorized dealers are the sales channel
Scag says it does not sell products directly from the factory. Customers are directed to authorized dealers for current product pricing and availability. Dealers provide sales assistance, technical service, and access to genuine Scag parts. This arrangement also helps match a mower, deck configuration, engine option, and service plan to the intended use.
Parts support
Scag says genuine replacement parts are designed to its standards for mower fit, safety, quality, and performance. Confirm the mower model and the exact part number before ordering; similar-looking parts can differ by deck, engine, production revision, or control configuration.

Those periods apply to the replacement-parts policy described by Scag. They do not automatically change the warranty on the mower itself.

What warranty coverage can a Scag owner expect?
Machine warranty duration is product-specific and depends on whether the mower is used commercially or non-commercially. Scag’s warranty materials give an example for several named mower families: two years of commercial machine coverage, and three years or 500 hours, whichever comes first, for non-commercial use. Other Scag products have different policies, and wear items and other exclusions can apply.
| Use case in Scag’s example | Example coverage | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial use | Two years | Applies to the specified mower families and policy terms, not automatically to every Scag product. |
| Non-commercial use | Three years or 500 hours, whichever comes first | Hour limits can end coverage before the calendar period; verify the policy for the exact model. |
| Wear items and listed exclusions | May not be covered | Read the current warranty statement before treating a failure as warrantable. |
Before buying used equipment or scheduling a repair, obtain the current warranty statement for the exact model and determine whether its operating hours, ownership status, maintenance history, and use classification meet the requirements.
What “manufactured in Wisconsin” does—and does not—tell you
What it tells you
- Scag identifies a network of Metalcraft factories in Mayville, West Bend, Beaver Dam, Fall River, and New Berlin.
- Scag describes fabrication and assembly activities in those Wisconsin operations.
- Plastic fuel tanks are molded at Metalcraft’s Horicon plastics facility.
- The SFC and SFCII certificate provides plant-level evidence for Fall River, Wisconsin.
What it does not tell you
- It does not identify one plant for every mower model.
- It does not prove that every component, raw material, or wheel is made by Scag.
- It does not establish that a particular used mower was assembled at a specific plant without model-specific documentation.
- It does not replace the current manual, parts record, or warranty statement for your machine.
Bottom line for buyers and owners
Scag Power Equipment makes Scag lawn mowers as a division of Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc., the company that purchased Scag in 1986. Scag describes production across Metalcraft facilities in five Wisconsin communities, with plastic fuel tanks molded in Horicon. Fall River is specifically documented for the SFC and SFCII families, but no single plant should be assigned to every Scag mower. For pricing, availability, service, parts, manufacturing details, and warranty decisions, use the exact model and serial number with an authorized Scag dealer.
