What is Foxtale?
Foxtale is a skincare company built for Indian consumers. Its reported everyday range includes cleansers, serums and moisturisers. The brand sells through its own website, other online shopping platforms and quick-commerce services, giving it both a direct channel and wider digital distribution.
Mazumdar’s stated reason for entering the category came from seeing a gap between product efficacy and affordability. In a HerStory interview, she said she researched the Indian skincare market after working with a makeup brand and concluded that consumers needed products that could combine those two qualities. Foxtale launched in 2021 as a direct-to-consumer business.

How Mazumdar moved from finance to skincare
Mazumdar’s path to entrepreneurship began in financial and technology analysis rather than in cosmetics. Her reported career chronology is:
#1 Best Overall
- 2013–2017: Studied business economics and financial mathematics at UCLA.
- 2017–2019: Worked in technology analysis at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Palo Alto.
- 2019–2021: Worked in investment analysis at A91 Partners.
- 2021: Founded Foxtale after researching the consumer opportunity in Indian skincare.
That finance background helps explain Foxtale’s emphasis on a defined consumer problem, measurable product performance and a scalable distribution model. It also distinguishes Mazumdar from founders who enter beauty through formulation, salon or retail careers.
How Foxtale was developed
Mazumdar has described a research-heavy approach to finding the company’s opening. Z47 reported that she conducted almost 1,000 interviews over six months before settling on the market gap Foxtale would address. In the same interview, she described an ambition to build a ₹1,000 crore business.
Rank #2
Entrepreneur India reported her statement that community members participated in product testing and that Foxtale did not launch a product without reaching “97 per cent efficacy.” That figure is a company-reported product-development threshold, not independent clinical validation, so it should be understood as part of Foxtale’s stated process rather than as a third-party performance finding.
Foxtale’s reported revenue, funding and investors
Public reports give different totals because they refer to different dates and funding definitions. The figures attributed in 2025 and 2026 coverage are:
Rank #3
- we like to ship out right away
| Measure | Reported figure | Attribution and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| FY2025 revenue | ₹365 crore | Forbes figure cited by Mint in 2026 |
| Total funding | $56 million | Mint, 2026 |
| Equity funding | $67 million | Hurun Research Institute and Avendus Wealth, 2025 |
| Foxtale ranking | Age 30 in the 2025 U30 ranking | Hurun Research Institute and Avendus Wealth, 2025 |
Because “total funding” and “equity funding” can cover different transaction sets and reporting periods, the $56 million and $67 million numbers should not be treated as a single, directly comparable balance. Named Foxtale investors reported in coverage include Z47, Panthera, Stride Ventures and Kose Corporation.
Why Mazumdar is on Hurun’s 10 youngest entrepreneurs list
The 2026 Avendus Wealth–Hurun India U35 List placed Mazumdar fifth among its 10 youngest entrepreneurs. All 10 people in that youngest-entrepreneur group were 31, making the ranking a comparison within the same age bracket rather than a claim that she was younger than every other person on the list. She was the only woman in that top 10.
Rank #4
Mazumdar first appeared on the Hurun list in 2025. The 2026 edition recognised 23 women overall, including first-generation founders and people leading family businesses; women accounted for 12.8% of all entrepreneurs in the edition. Her place therefore matters both for Foxtale’s reported scale and for the visibility of a first-generation woman founder in a field still dominated numerically by men.
The list’s comparison also puts her profile in context: she is a first-generation founder who moved from finance into a consumer brand, rather than a successor to an established family enterprise. Her business is concentrated in D2C skincare, with a product range spanning routine essentials and distribution extending from owned e-commerce to marketplaces and quick commerce.

Mazumdar on business stereotypes
In coverage of her response to stereotypes about Bengalis and business, Mazumdar said: “We are Bengalis. We love our bhaat and daal, and still build a very good business.” The remark connected her personal identity with an argument that cultural assumptions do not determine entrepreneurial ability; her Foxtale career is the practical example behind that response.
Quick Recap
What her story shows about Indian consumer startups
- Finance skills can transfer: market sizing, interviews, investment analysis and attention to measurable outcomes can inform a consumer brand as much as traditional beauty experience.
- Affordability and efficacy are a positioning choice: Foxtale was created around the stated gap between those two expectations, rather than around a single hero ingredient or luxury image.
- Distribution is multi-channel: Foxtale combines its own website with online marketplaces and quick-commerce services, meeting customers in both planned and convenience-led shopping journeys.
- Recognition is not the same as validation: Hurun rankings measure entrepreneurial prominence using their own methodology, while Foxtale’s “97 per cent efficacy” statement describes an internal product-development claim.
