Kenny Omega is a Canadian professional wrestler from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who became one of All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) first signings in February 2019. Before AEW, he spent more than a decade wrestling primarily in Japan, including work for DDT and New Japan. AEW presents him as both a wrestler and an executive vice president.
New viewers will recognize Omega by the nicknames “The Best Bout Machine” and “The Cleaner.” His signature move is the One Winged Angel. He has won AEW’s world singles, tag-team, trios and International championships, making him the promotion’s first Triple Crown and first Grand Slam champion. The latest dated AEW result available for this guide says Will Ospreay defeated Omega for the AEW World Championship at All In: London on August 30, 2026.
What Kenny Omega is known for
Omega is best understood as a wrestler whose career connects Japan’s long-form wrestling scene with AEW’s modern North American promotion. His résumé combines singles matches, tag-team work, trios wrestling, championship programs and an executive role behind the scenes.

AEW’s official biography identifies him as a Winnipeg, Manitoba native and says he wrestled primarily in Japan for more than a decade before joining AEW. That Japanese period is important because it established the “Best Bout Machine” identity that followed him to the United States. The available biography does not provide a complete match-by-match or title-by-title record for every earlier promotion, so a short beginner guide should not pretend to be a full pre-AEW statistical history.

Omega signed with AEW in February 2019, during the promotion’s launch period. He was therefore part of the group that helped define AEW’s initial roster and presentation rather than a wrestler who arrived after the company was already established.
Kenny Omega before AEW
More than a decade primarily in Japan
Before AEW, Omega spent more than ten years wrestling mainly in Japan. AEW specifically names DDT and New Japan among the promotions connected to that career. For a new fan, “wrestling in Japan” means his reputation was built in a different promotion landscape from the weekly American television format many viewers know. His earlier work is a major reason AEW promoted him as an internationally established performer when it launched.
The official AEW material used for this guide does not establish a complete chronology of every Japanese event, championship or opponent. It is more accurate to treat Japan as the broad foundation of his career than to assign him an exhaustive list of accomplishments that the cited biography does not document.

Omega entered AEW with an audience that already associated him with high-profile matches and elaborate long-term stories from Japan. In AEW, that reputation became part of the company’s pitch: viewers could follow a wrestler with an established international identity while also watching him help build a new promotion.
Joining AEW and becoming an executive vice president
One of AEW’s first signings
AEW identifies Omega as one of its first signings in February 2019. The timing matters: AEW was founded in 2019, so Omega joined near the beginning rather than transferring into a mature company with a fixed hierarchy.
What “EVP” means
Omega is also listed as an executive vice president, commonly shortened to EVP. In plain language, that means he has an executive responsibility in addition to performing as a wrestler. The title does not mean he automatically controls match outcomes or every creative decision. It identifies a formal leadership role within the promotion while he remains an active part of the roster.
His first major AEW result
At AEW’s first live show, Double or Nothing, in May 2019, Omega lost to Chris Jericho in the main event, according to AEW’s biography. That result gives beginners a useful starting point: his AEW story did not begin with an immediate world-title victory. He arrived as a major signing, then had to establish his place in the new company.

Kenny Omega’s AEW timeline

His championship achievements explained
The 346-day AEW World Championship reign
Omega defeated Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship in December 2020, with Don Callis’s help. AEW states that the reign lasted 346 days and ranks as the second-longest world-title reign in the company’s history. The figure describes that particular reign, not the total time Omega has held every AEW championship combined.
A world championship is a promotion’s top singles title. Winning it places a wrestler at the center of the company’s main event scene, while the length of the reign indicates how long the promotion kept that wrestler in the title position.
What AEW means by “Triple Crown”
AEW calls Omega its first Triple Crown champion. In AEW’s usage, that means he held all three of the promotion’s designated championship categories: the world singles championship, a tag-team championship and a trios championship.

“Triple Crown” is not a universal rule across wrestling. Different promotions can define the term using different belts. When discussing Omega, use AEW’s definition rather than assuming another company’s standard applies.
What AEW means by “Grand Slam”
AEW also identifies Omega as its first Grand Slam champion. The milestone came in March 2025 when he defeated Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship. AEW’s description treats the International title as the additional championship needed for its Grand Slam distinction.
Because “Grand Slam” also varies by promotion, the useful fact is not an abstract wrestling rule but AEW’s own designation: Omega became the first wrestler the company recognized as completing that set.

Omega’s nicknames and signature move
“The Best Bout Machine”
AEW uses “The Best Bout Machine” as one of Omega’s nicknames. “Bout” is another word for a wrestling match, so the nickname presents him as a performer associated with high-level main-event contests. It is a character label and promotional identity, not an independently measured ranking.

“The Cleaner” is Omega’s other prominent AEW nickname. New viewers may hear commentators or fans use it interchangeably with his name. It refers to the persona AEW markets, not to a separate wrestler or a different championship division.
The One Winged Angel
AEW lists the One Winged Angel as Omega’s signature move. A signature move is a maneuver strongly associated with a wrestler and commonly featured as a potential match-ending attack. Knowing this name helps viewers follow commentary and crowd reactions when Omega sets up the move.
Why the 2023–2025 absence matters
What AEW says happened
AEW says diverticulitis sidelined Omega for more than 400 days. That is the extent of the medical explanation established in the official biography used here. It is not appropriate to add symptoms, treatment details or speculation that AEW does not provide.
The effect on his wrestling story
The absence interrupted an attempt to regain the world championship after his split with Don Callis. In practical terms, the story moved from an active title pursuit to a prolonged period in which Omega could not wrestle. For viewers who started watching during that gap, his return is a major piece of context rather than a minor roster update.
Return in January 2025
AEW records Omega’s return against Brian Cage on Dynamite: Maximum Carnage in January 2025. The return date is more useful to beginners than trying to infer a gradual comeback schedule that the supplied official summary does not document.
The International Championship win and the first Grand Slam
In March 2025, Omega defeated Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship. AEW says that victory completed its first Grand Slam, adding the International title to the world, tag-team and trios championships already associated with his Triple Crown achievement.

The result also shows why championship labels need context. Omega’s Grand Slam status depends on AEW’s championship structure and definitions. It does not mean he won every title ever promoted by every wrestling company in which he worked.
Omega’s latest documented world-title status
AEW’s results index records that Will Ospreay defeated Omega for the AEW World Championship at All In: London on August 30, 2026. This is the latest dated result available for this guide. Wrestling titles can change after any later event, so readers checking Omega’s status beyond that date should consult AEW’s current results and championship information rather than treating this sentence as timeless.
The result should be read narrowly: it documents the outcome of that event and title change. It does not by itself establish Omega’s complete schedule, injury status, future challengers or any later championship win.
How to start watching Kenny Omega as a beginner
You do not need to watch every match from Japan or every AEW episode to understand Omega. A milestone-based approach gives you the essential story in a manageable order.
- Start with his AEW arrival. Learn that he signed in February 2019 as one of AEW’s first signings and that he came from more than a decade of primarily Japanese wrestling.
- Use Double or Nothing 2019 as the first dated result. Omega’s loss to Chris Jericho in the main event shows the level of opponent and event in which AEW introduced him.
- Follow the world-title milestone. His December 2020 victory over Jon Moxley, assisted by Don Callis, explains the 346-day reign and the central role of the AEW World Championship.
- Read the absence as part of the chronology. The more-than-400-day diverticulitis-related absence explains why his story pauses after the Callis split.
- Watch the return chapter. His January 2025 match against Brian Cage on Dynamite: Maximum Carnage marks his return to competition.
- Track the Grand Slam milestone. The March 2025 victory over Konosuke Takeshita for the International Championship completes AEW’s first Grand Slam, according to the promotion.
- Check the latest results before discussing his current title. The dated result used here is Ospreay’s August 30, 2026 victory over Omega at All In: London.
This sequence gives you the documented career turning points without inventing a “best matches” ranking. The official material used for this guide does not establish a complete ranked match list.

Where Omega fits in AEW’s match formats
Singles wrestling
Singles wrestling means one wrestler competes against one opponent. Omega’s AEW World Championship reign and his International Championship victory are singles-title milestones.
Tag-team wrestling
Tag-team wrestling uses teams of two. Omega’s inclusion in AEW’s Triple Crown definition means he held the promotion’s designated tag-team championship at some point, although the official summary used here does not provide the complete partner-and-reign chronology.

What is established—and what is not
The strongest documented facts are Omega’s Winnipeg origin, his more-than-decade Japanese career, February 2019 AEW signing, nicknames, signature move, executive role, championship distinctions, 346-day world-title reign, 400-plus-day absence, January 2025 return, March 2025 International Championship win and the August 30, 2026 All In: London title loss.
The official material does not establish a complete pre-AEW match guide, a comprehensive title table across every promotion, detailed medical information, a definitive list of platforms and editions for the video game, current merchandise inventory or any future AEW schedule. Leaving those points open is more accurate than filling them with assumptions.
