Yamaha’s U.S. product pages identify Bluetooth audio on these representative P-Series models. The P-525 is the one in this comparison for which Yamaha also explicitly lists Bluetooth MIDI.

Bluetooth audio is for listening
Bluetooth audio sends sound from a phone or other smart device to the piano’s speakers. It is the feature to look for if you want to hear a song through the instrument and play along. Yamaha describes this use for the P-145BT and P-525; it also lists Bluetooth audio for the P-225.

Bluetooth MIDI is for musical data
MIDI sends performance and control data rather than a song’s audio. A compatible app can use that data to communicate with an instrument. Yamaha specifically documents Bluetooth MIDI and wireless Smart Pianist use for the P-525; the cited P-145BT and P-225 listings do not establish that they offer Bluetooth MIDI.
Can a Yamaha piano play music from a phone?
Yes, if the particular piano supports Bluetooth audio. Yamaha says the P-145BT can stream songs from a smart device and play along, and describes the P-525’s Bluetooth audio as a way to listen to or play along with music through the instrument’s speakers. The P-225 is also listed with Bluetooth audio in Yamaha’s P-Series overview. Pairing instructions depend on the model; use its manual rather than assuming the P-525 procedure applies to other instruments.

Does Bluetooth connect a Yamaha piano to Smart Pianist?
Not necessarily. Smart Pianist compatibility alone does not prove that an instrument has built-in Bluetooth: Yamaha says supported connection methods vary by instrument. The P-525 manual describes establishing a Bluetooth MIDI connection for Smart Pianist, and describes Bluetooth Audio as an additional connection when using audio playback in the app. It also describes USB for audio and MIDI transmission. Check the compatibility information for the exact instrument and app setup in Yamaha’s Smart Pianist specifications.
How to choose between the P-145BT, P-225, and P-525
- Choose the P-145BT if your stated need is built-in Bluetooth audio on a portable piano. Yamaha also lists USB audio/MIDI and Smart Pianist app support for this model.
- Consider the P-225 if you want a P-Series option Yamaha lists with Bluetooth audio. Do not assume Bluetooth MIDI from that listing.
- Choose the P-525 when both functions matter: Yamaha explicitly lists Bluetooth audio and Bluetooth MIDI, including wireless Smart Pianist use.

What accessories are listed for the P-145BT?
Yamaha’s P-145BT specifications list headphones (HPH-150, HPH-100, and HPH-50), keyboard stands, pedal options, footswitches, a keyboard bag, a power adaptor, and a wireless MIDI adaptor as separately sold accessories, with regional variation noted.
