For an Xbox Series X, start with the signal you want the monitor to accept: choose a 4K display that supports 4K at 120Hz over HDMI and has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth if you want the console’s highest listed resolution-and-refresh combination. If you are willing to trade away 4K detail, a 1440p monitor may be a more affordable fit. Among the models in RTINGS’ U.S.-focused recommendations updated September 16, 2026, the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM is the premium pick, while the ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS is a lower-resolution budget option.

Best Xbox gaming monitors at a glance

These are different choices for different budgets and priorities, not a universal ranking. RTINGS’ recommendations are for U.S. availability and can change as models and stock change. The refresh figures below describe supported monitor or console signals; they do not mean every game runs at the maximum rate.

Premium 27-inch 4K OLED ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM RTINGS’ top Xbox Series X recommendation in its September 2026 U.S. guide. It accepts 4K at 120Hz; its 240Hz maximum is beyond what the console can fully use.
Upper mid-range 27-inch 4K OLED Dell Alienware AW2725Q RTINGS’ upper mid-range recommendation. It supports HDMI 2.1 and Xbox Dolby Vision, but its OLED characteristics make room lighting and static on-screen content worth considering.
Mid-range 4K LCD Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx RTINGS says it accepts 4K up to 120Hz over HDMI 2.1. It does not support Dolby Vision; confirm the exact regional model before buying.
Budget 1440p ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS RTINGS reports Xbox VRR support and good motion handling. It does not accept 4K at 120Hz, and its HDR picture is described as washed out.

What an Xbox monitor needs to support

Resolution and refresh rate

Xbox Series X supports gaming at up to 4K and 120Hz over HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. To use that output, the monitor must accept the specific 4K/120Hz signal through its HDMI input; a high maximum refresh rate listed for PC use does not establish that it can do so. Check the monitor’s Xbox signal compatibility, not just the headline refresh-rate number.

A 240Hz monitor can still be useful if you also connect a high-refresh PC, but Xbox cannot make full use of the PG27UCDM’s 240Hz ceiling. For console-only use, paying extra for refresh rates beyond 120Hz may not bring an Xbox benefit.

VRR and HDR compatibility

Variable refresh rate (VRR) can reduce tearing when a supported signal is in use. Compatibility depends on the monitor, signal, and settings: RTINGS checks which resolution and refresh-rate combinations work with HDR and VRR rather than inferring console support from a monitor’s maximum PC refresh rate.

RTINGS says Xbox Series X|S supports HDMI Forum VRR and also supports FreeSync, so some FreeSync monitors without HDMI Forum VRR can still work with Xbox VRR. Some monitors also require a setting that enables full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. Check the model’s review and setup instructions for the input you plan to use.

How the recommended models differ

ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM: premium 4K OLED

This is RTINGS’ top Xbox Series X pick in its September 2026 U.S. guide. Its relevant console capability is accepting 4K at 120Hz; the 240Hz maximum is principally a consideration for other connected devices, because Xbox cannot fully use it. Consider whether OLED picture characteristics and potential PC use justify the premium over a 4K LCD.

Dell Alienware AW2725Q: 4K OLED with Dolby Vision

RTINGS places the AW2725Q in its upper mid-range category, reports HDMI 2.1 support, and says it supports Xbox Dolby Vision. Its glossy screen and OLED image quality may appeal to some buyers, but bright-room performance has trade-offs: RTINGS reports raised blacks and less saturated colors in bright conditions. OLED pixels can also be at risk of burn-in when static elements remain on screen for long periods, so consider your typical use, including persistent menus or desktop content.

Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx: mid-range 4K LCD

RTINGS says this LCD accepts 4K up to 120Hz over HDMI 2.1, making it a 4K/120Hz alternative to the OLED options. It does not support Dolby Vision. Check the exact model designation and regional SKU, since similarly named products or regional variants should not be assumed to have identical inputs or capabilities.

ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS: budget 1440p

This option trades away 4K/120Hz input support for a lower-resolution route. RTINGS describes Xbox VRR support and good motion handling, but says the monitor does not accept 4K at 120Hz and its HDR image looks washed out. It makes most sense if the lower cost matters more to you than 4K detail or a stronger HDR presentation.

How to check Xbox compatibility before buying

Use model-specific compatibility information rather than assuming a monitor works with every Xbox feature because it advertises HDMI 2.1 or a high refresh rate. RTINGS’ test method connects the console to the monitor’s highest-bandwidth HDMI input, checks the signal options shown in console settings, and records which combinations support HDR and VRR.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm the target signal. For 4K at 120Hz, verify that the exact monitor model accepts 4K/120Hz over HDMI, not only over a PC-oriented DisplayPort connection.
  2. Check VRR and HDR by signal. Look for the supported resolution-and-refresh combinations and whether HDR and VRR work with those combinations.
  3. Review input settings. Check whether the monitor requires an HDMI bandwidth or enhanced-input setting for its full capability, and use the appropriate HDMI input.
  4. Verify the exact SKU. Regional models can differ; compare the full model name and manufacturer specifications for the market where you are buying.

Should you buy an ultrawide monitor for Xbox?

Not if you expect Xbox to fill a 21:9 screen with an ultrawide game image. Xbox Series X|S does not support ultrawide gaming, so an ultrawide display shows side bars. The wider panel does not increase the console’s field of view. Choose a standard aspect-ratio monitor if using the full screen is important.

Choose by your main priority

  • For 4K at 120Hz: Focus on monitors verified to accept that signal over HDMI; among the listed choices, the PG27UCDM, AW2725Q, and Acer Nitro are the relevant options.
  • For OLED: Compare the two OLED models’ price and room conditions, and account for the AW2725Q’s reported bright-room limitations and static-image burn-in risk.
  • For a lower-cost console display: The 1440p XG27ACS gives up 4K/120Hz support and has weaker HDR according to RTINGS.
  • For both Xbox and a high-refresh PC: A monitor above 120Hz may offer value for the PC, even though Xbox cannot use the full 240Hz ceiling of the PG27UCDM.
