For workouts involving sweat or splashes, the two models with verified manufacturer protection details here are Apple AirPods Pro 3 and Beats Powerbeats Pro 2. AirPods Pro 3 and its case carry an IP57 rating, while Powerbeats Pro 2 is rated IPX4. Those ratings are not a swimming recommendation: Apple says its listed AirPods are for non-water sports and exercise, not swimming or showering.
This is a focused shortlist, not a six-product ranking. The available verified specifications support these two picks; they do not substantiate six current models or an independent ranking of them.
What sweat and water resistance ratings tell you
An IP rating describes a specific model’s protection under defined conditions. It does not make earbuds waterproof, and you should not assume that every model or generation from the same brand has the same rating. Apple’s support guidance distinguishes AirPods generations and charging-case combinations, so check the exact product you own or plan to buy.
For AirPods Pro 3, Apple lists the earbuds and charging case as IP57 dust, sweat, and water resistant. Apple’s support guidance states that its listed IP57 AirPods are tested to a maximum depth of one metre for up to 30 minutes under IEC standard 60529. That rating does not override Apple’s stated use limits: it describes a test condition, not approval for swimming.

Apple AirPods Pro 3: the stronger documented rating and workout sensor
AirPods Pro 3 is the clearer fit if your priority is a documented dust-and-water rating plus a workout feature: Apple lists IP57 protection for both the earbuds and charging case and a heart-rate sensor. Apple specifies up to eight hours of listening with ANC enabled. The listed battery life is a manufacturer figure, not a guarantee for every listening setup or use pattern.
Apple’s rating is not a reason to use these earbuds for swimming or showering. Apple describes the listed AirPods as intended for non-water sports and exercise.

Beats Powerbeats Pro 2: ear hooks and a splash-resistance claim
Beats positions Powerbeats Pro 2 as wireless sport earbuds with ear hooks. The hooks are a design feature to consider if you want an over-ear retention style for movement; fit and comfort still depend on the individual wearer. Beats’ IPX4 claim covers sweat and splashes from any direction, not immersion.
Which option fits your workout?
- Choose based on documented protection: AirPods Pro 3 has the broader stated IP57 rating, including dust resistance; Powerbeats Pro 2 carries a stated IPX4 splash-resistance rating. Neither claim makes the product suitable for swimming.
- Consider how the earbuds stay in place: Powerbeats Pro 2 has ear hooks. The verified product details identify a heart-rate sensor for AirPods Pro 3, but do not establish a direct fit or stability comparison between the models.
- Match features to your devices: Check the manufacturer’s current compatibility information for your phone and other devices before buying. The verified specifications cited here do not establish a platform-compatibility comparison.
- Weigh battery needs: Apple publishes up to eight hours for AirPods Pro 3 with ANC enabled. No comparable Powerbeats Pro 2 battery figure is established here, so this information alone cannot settle which lasts longer.
Care for earbuds after a sweaty workout
Apple advises wiping its listed AirPods with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth after workouts, heavy sweating, or splashes. It says not to use heat or compressed air. Follow the care instructions for your exact model; a resistance rating does not remove the need to clean and dry earbuds properly.

Why this is not a six-earbud ranking
A responsible six-pick list needs current, exact-model protection claims and use limitations for all six products, plus enough evidence to compare fit, compatibility, features, and activity needs. The verified details support two models and do not establish a current six-model shortlist or an independent comparative evaluation. A 2026 TechRadar workout-headphone roundup includes Powerbeats Pro 2, but an editorial roundup is not a standardized water-resistance test. Treat any broader recommendations as separate judgments, not proof that one model offers better protection.
