The best Wi-Fi card for a desktop PC is the one that works with your motherboard and operating system, matches your router’s capabilities, and can get a good antenna position. For a new Wi-Fi 7 setup, the TP-Link Archer TBE550E is a documented PCIe option; for Wi-Fi 6E, Tom’s Hardware tested the Gigabyte GC-WBAX210 as a strong performer in its test setup. Neither card guarantees a particular internet speed, and a new adapter alone cannot add features your router or software does not support.

How to choose a Wi-Fi card for your PC

Compare more than the advertised speed. Start with compatibility, then check which bands and features your router supports and whether the card’s antennas can be placed effectively. Bluetooth support and driver availability may also matter for your setup.

  • Generation and bands: Wi-Fi 6E extends Wi-Fi 6 to the 6 GHz band. Wi-Fi 7 uses IEEE 802.11be and includes features such as Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and 320 MHz channels on 6 GHz.
  • PC compatibility: Check the exact operating-system, motherboard, and processor requirements for the card. A PCIe slot alone does not guarantee support.
  • Router compatibility: The router or access point must support the band and features you want to use. TP-Link notes that advanced features require a compatible access point and PC operating system.
  • Antenna placement: Signal quality depends on the environment and access-point location as well as the adapter. A card with an antenna base or extension may help when the PC’s position blocks its antennas, but it is a conditional accessory, not a universal fix.
  • Realistic performance: Manufacturer rate figures describe wireless signal rates, not guaranteed internet throughput, file-transfer speeds, or benchmark results.

Wi-Fi 7 cards worth considering

TP-Link Archer TBE550E

The Archer TBE550E is a PCIe Wi-Fi 7 adapter with Bluetooth 5.4. TP-Link advertises an MLO aggregate signal rate of up to 6,452 Mbps. That is a theoretical wireless signal-rate maximum, not a promise of download speed; actual throughput and coverage vary with the access point, environment, obstacles, and network traffic. MLO and other advanced capabilities also depend on compatible router or access-point and PC operating-system support. TP-Link’s product specifications and notes explain those limits.

ASUS PCE-BE92BT

The PCE-BE92BT is a Wi-Fi 7 PCIe x1 adapter with 6 GHz support, 320 MHz channel capability, and Bluetooth 5.4. ASUS lists a maximum rate of up to 5,764 Mbps at 6 GHz and 320 MHz; this is a manufacturer specification, not a guaranteed result. Platform support is unusually specific: ASUS specifies Windows 11 and Intel 13th-generation or newer CPUs on Intel motherboards, and warns that not all AMD motherboards are supported. Check the ASUS PCE-BE92BT specifications against your exact system before buying.

A Wi-Fi 6E alternative

Gigabyte GC-WBAX210

The GC-WBAX210 is a Wi-Fi 6E desktop card included in Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 roundup. The publication reported near-top Wi-Fi 6E test performance for it, but that finding belongs to its test configuration—not every PC or home network. The roundup was updated October 6, 2026; testing used a Ryzen 5 7600 desktop running Windows 11 Home, with a 10 GbE server connected to a TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 router. See Tom’s Hardware’s desktop Wi-Fi card roundup for its results and context.

Check compatibility before you buy

Operating system and platform

Confirm the adapter’s supported OS and any motherboard or processor requirements on the manufacturer’s page. Intel’s compatibility table lists its BE200 and AX210 wireless products for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11; those listings do not override the requirements of a particular PCIe card or guarantee that every desktop configuration is supported. Consult Intel’s supported Windows operating systems table alongside the card maker’s own compatibility notes.

Windows support for Wi-Fi 7

Microsoft says Wi-Fi 7 is available starting with Windows 11, version 24H2. A compatible adapter is only one part of the setup: drivers, the router or access point, and the PC’s software support must also align. Microsoft’s Windows Wi-Fi guidance describes the operating-system side.

Regional limits on bands and channel widths

Availability of 6 GHz features and channel widths can depend on local regulation. TP-Link notes that 320 MHz at 6 GHz and 160 MHz at 5 GHz may be unavailable in some countries or regions. Check local availability and the router’s supported settings rather than assuming a card’s maximum specification applies everywhere.

What advertised Wi-Fi rates do—and do not—tell you

Do not compare a card’s maximum wireless signal rate directly with your internet plan. TP-Link describes its maximum rates as physical rates based on IEEE specifications and cautions that real throughput and coverage vary with access-point limitations, network conditions, building materials, obstacles, traffic volume and density, and access-point location. Your internet connection, router, client device, and local radio environment all affect the result.

Wi-Fi 7’s MLO can use multiple links, while 320 MHz channels can provide wider bandwidth on 6 GHz, but those capabilities do not appear just because the PC has a Wi-Fi 7 card. The router and PC software must support the relevant feature, and regional rules may constrain channel use.

Make the choice based on your setup

  • Choose a Wi-Fi 7 adapter if your PC meets its exact requirements and you have—or plan to use—a compatible Wi-Fi 7 router or access point. The Archer TBE550E and ASUS PCE-BE92BT are documented options, but their requirements and specifications differ.
  • Choose Wi-Fi 6E if that generation better matches your system or network. The GC-WBAX210 has independent roundup testing behind it, but the reported performance is specific to Tom’s Hardware’s configuration.
  • Pause before buying if you have not verified OS, motherboard/CPU, router, driver, and regional support. A newer card may still connect without providing every advertised feature.
