There is no universally best Weapon Amplification in ARC Raiders. Choose the branch that matches the job you need a weapon to perform: X-Rounds for stronger ARC armor damage, Anti-Weak Point for weak-point damage, or a weapon-specific behavior change such as automatic fire, a scope, incendiary ammunition, or a larger magazine. Before confirming, inspect the complete tree, because some branches are mutually exclusive and the amplification reference says a selected alteration cannot be reverted.

What Weapon Amplification changes

Weapon Amplification is a branching upgrade system introduced with the Frozen Trail update. Instead of applying one flat damage increase, it lets you unlock abilities and enhancements that can change how a familiar weapon behaves. Embark Studios describes the system as a way to “completely change” weapon behavior.

At launch, the system covered 15 weapons, with additional weapons planned. You access it through the Research Workstation in the Raider Outpost. Each weapon has its own tree, so an option available on one gun may not exist on another, and the same label can have different downstream requirements or trade-offs.

That distinction matters when someone asks for the “best” amplification. A branch that is excellent against ARC armor may be poor against Raiders or weak points. A larger magazine can improve sustained fire while making a weapon harder to control. A full-auto conversion can make close-range fighting easier but change ammunition consumption and precision. Treat amplification as a role choice, not a universal tier list.

Choose by target first

ARC Raiders separates ordinary Raider enemies, ARC armor plating and ARC weak points into different practical targets. Decide which target you are trying to defeat more efficiently before comparing fire modes or magazine perks.

Primary objective Branch to consider What the documented effect means
Damage ARC armor plating X-Rounds, where offered Increases damage against ARC armor; the benefit is target-specific rather than a promise of the best all-purpose Raider damage.
Damage ARC weak points Anti-Weak Point, where offered Increases weak-point damage but reduces damage against ARC armor plating.
Change how the weapon fires Automatic, burst or semi-automatic branch Changes firing behavior and can alter recoil, ammunition use and effective range.
Stay in fights longer between reloads Magazine-capacity branch Adds ammunition capacity, but may increase recoil or dispersion and slow aiming down sights.
Apply damage over time Incendiary or similar projectile-effect branch Adds a special effect; confirm the exact damage and compatibility in the current in-game description.

Damage-focused amplifications

X-Rounds: the armor-specialist choice

The mechanics references describe X-Rounds as dealing slightly increased damage to Raiders and significantly increased damage to ARC armor plating. That makes X-Rounds the clearest choice when your squad needs a weapon dedicated to dismantling armored ARC targets.

The size of the armor bonus depends on the weapon. The ARC Raiders Wiki lists a 33% increase against ARC armor for Anvil and 25% for Bettina. Those are guide-listed values, not independent tests, and balance updates can change them. Read the current tooltip before spending resources.

Do not select X-Rounds merely because it has a larger-looking percentage. If your usual engagements involve exposed weak points, an Anti-Weak Point path can produce more useful damage even though it gives up armor performance. X-Rounds is strongest when the target you regularly face is armor plating.

Anti-Weak Point: precision against exposed components

Anti-Weak Point increases damage to ARC weak points while reducing damage to ARC armor. It is therefore a specialization for players who deliberately aim at components rather than firing into plated surfaces.

This trade-off is easy to miss when comparing upgrade names. A build can feel weaker if you continue shooting armor after choosing Anti-Weak Point, even though it performs better once you hit the intended weak point. Select it only if your accuracy, weapon sight picture and squad role support consistent weak-point shots.

Behavior-changing branches

Fire-mode conversions

Some trees offer automatic, burst or semi-automatic fire. These are not simple damage upgrades: they change the rhythm of every engagement. Automatic fire can improve close-range tracking and sustained pressure, while burst or semi-automatic fire can make ammunition control and deliberate shots easier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Burletta is a documented example. Its tree lists full-auto and burst-fire as mutually exclusive paths, while sprint shooting can be used with either. Choose full-auto if the weapon’s job is rapid close-range output; choose burst if you value controlled shots and do not want the automatic branch’s handling and ammunition demands. Verify the exact branch layout in your tree before committing.

Bettina provides another example: its guide-listed tree includes a larger-magazine path, a semi-automatic path and X-Rounds downstream of Semi-Auto. The order matters because selecting Semi-Auto can determine which later options become available.

Scopes and range changes

Embark’s launch examples include a scoped Renegade. A scope changes the weapon’s practical engagement distance and how you acquire targets; it does not automatically make the gun better in every situation. Consider the sight’s usefulness on the maps and distances you actually play, along with any handling cost shown in the current description.

Magazine capacity and handling

The Rattler demonstrates why capacity upgrades require a trade-off analysis. Embark’s example pairs incendiary rounds with a 64-round drum magazine. The ARC Raiders Hub upgrade guide reports that the drum adds 40 rounds, but also increases vertical and horizontal recoil by 50%, increases shot dispersion by 30% and slows aiming down sights by 10%. Those figures are guide-reported game values rather than independently tested measurements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The drum is attractive for sustained fire against groups or durable targets. It is a poor fit if your Rattler is used for precise, mobile shooting where fast ADS and tight spread matter more than reload frequency. Incendiary rounds add burn damage and can complement a high-capacity role, but check whether the resulting branch prevents another upgrade you need.

Weapon examples and what they imply

Weapon Documented options or example How to evaluate it
Anvil X-Rounds versus Anvil Splitter Compare armor specialization with the alternative behavior path. The old Anvil Splitter mod became an upgrade option for the Amplified Anvil in the 2.0 update.
Bettina Larger magazine, Semi-Auto and X-Rounds after Semi-Auto Choose the fire mode first if it determines access to the later armor branch; otherwise select capacity for sustained fights.
Burletta Full-auto or burst-fire; sprint shooting works with either Full-auto favors close-range pressure; burst favors controlled fire. The two firing paths are mutually exclusive.
Kettle Anti-shield, full-auto and X-Rounds The guide says X-Rounds blocks the other listed paths when taken alone. Confirm the live tree before selecting it.
Rattler Incendiary rounds and a 64-round drum example Capacity and burn effect support sustained output, while the drum’s recoil, dispersion and ADS penalties make precision harder.
Renegade Scope example Use the scope when your normal fights benefit from longer-range target acquisition; it is a role change, not a universal damage increase.

How to compare two branches before spending resources

  1. Identify the target. Decide whether the weapon is primarily for Raiders, ARC armor plating or ARC weak points. Write down the target you face most often rather than the one that sounds most dangerous.
  2. Read every node in the tree. Follow the path from the first node to its downstream options. Some choices are exclusive, and an attractive later perk may be unavailable after an earlier selection.
  3. Separate output from handling. Record changes to fire mode, recoil, dispersion, projectile speed, ADS speed, magazine size and any special effect. A damage increase can be offset by missed shots or slower target acquisition.
  4. Check compatibility. Confirm whether the branch works with your preferred attachments, ammunition and movement habits. The in-game description is the authority for the current build.
  5. Estimate real use. Ask how often the stated benefit applies in your matches. A weak-point bonus is valuable only when you can reliably hit weak points; a huge magazine matters less if you normally disengage before reloading.
  6. Confirm the commitment. The amplification reference states that the alteration cannot be reverted. Treat the confirmation screen as permanent and avoid spending materials while experimenting.

Unlocks, research and resource planning

Amplification is managed through the Research Workstation in the Raider Outpost. The detailed progression guide describes Research Station and Gunsmith progression, research tasks, required resources and a per-weapon upgrade step. Exact costs and material routes are guide-reported and can change with updates, so use the current station interface to verify what your account must provide.

Research the modules required by the branch you intend to keep, not every visible option by default. If a path is exclusive, researching an unused alternative can consume time or materials without helping the final build. Keep a reserve for repairs and later balance changes rather than spending every fragment immediately.

Durability and repair implications

The community mechanics reference says amplified weapons receive increased maximum durability, lose durability on death and require research of the relevant modules for repair. This makes amplification a continuing maintenance commitment, not a one-time menu choice.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Embark’s 2.0 update notes specify that Amplified Fragments are used to repair amplified weapons. The notes also identify the former Anvil Splitter as an item that can be recycled into fragments. Before entering a high-risk expedition, check the weapon’s durability and whether you have the required repair materials; a powerful branch is not useful if the weapon cannot be maintained.

Recommended choices by playstyle

You are the squad’s armor breaker

Choose X-Rounds on a weapon that offers it, provided you can accept the branch restrictions. Prioritize the gun you consistently carry against armored ARC targets, and verify its current armor multiplier in the tooltip.

You focus on weak-point shots

Choose Anti-Weak Point when available and build the rest of the weapon around accurate target acquisition. Avoid relying on that weapon for armor plating, because the documented trade-off reduces armor damage.

You fight at close range and keep moving

A full-auto branch can be more practical than a precision conversion, especially when sprint shooting is supported. Burletta’s tree is an example where full-auto and burst are separate commitments; select the pattern that matches your engagement distance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You suppress groups or durable targets

A larger magazine such as the Rattler’s documented 64-round drum can reduce reload interruptions. Weigh that benefit against the reported 50% vertical and horizontal recoil increase, 30% dispersion increase and 10% slower ADS.

You want one flexible general-purpose gun

Do not assume a damage-specialist branch is automatically best. Favor the option whose benefit applies across most of your fights, and avoid a handling penalty that causes more missed shots than the upgrade adds damage. The available evidence does not establish a single objectively strongest amplification in current live play.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Picking by name alone: Read the numerical effect and target qualifier; “Anti-Weak Point” is not an armor upgrade.
  • Ignoring exclusive branches: Map the full tree before selecting a node, especially on Kettle, Burletta and Anvil.
  • Comparing damage without handling: Include recoil, dispersion, ADS speed and magazine size in the decision.
  • Assuming launch examples are universal: The Rattler drum, scoped Renegade and automatic Burletta are examples, not proof that those options dominate every build.
  • Spending before checking permanence: The documented alteration cannot be reverted, so confirm the choice and current tooltip first.
  • Forgetting maintenance: Amplified weapons have special durability and repair requirements. Carry the appropriate Amplified Fragments and research the modules needed for repairs.

Bottom line

Use X-Rounds when ARC armor is your priority, Anti-Weak Point when you reliably target weak points, and a fire-mode, scope, magazine or projectile-effect branch when changing the weapon’s role solves a specific problem. Compare target, behavior, handling cost, branch restrictions and permanence at the Research Workstation, then verify the live tooltip before confirming. No available source supports calling one amplification the best for every ARC Raiders player.
