There is no universally best VALORANT preset for FPS and input lag. First determine whether your PC is limited by its CPU or GPU, then change settings that target that bottleneck and judge the result in actual matches. If FPS is stable but the game still feels delayed, check network delay separately from rendering latency.

Diagnose the bottleneck before changing settings

Start with VALORANT’s built-in performance graphs and observe them during the kind of match where the problem occurs. Riot explains that lower-spec PCs tend to be GPU-bound, while mid- to high-spec systems tend to be CPU-bound. When the CPU is limiting FPS, lowering graphics settings may do little: Riot performance engineer Brian Fischer noted that graphics changes may not help when the CPU, rather than the GPU, limits frames. Riot’s explanation of unstable FPS and bottlenecks is the basis for this diagnosis.

Performance can change during a match. Busier fights, more players and ability use can affect FPS, and performance may differ by game mode. A quiet practice area is therefore not a reliable substitute for checking the situation where you notice drops. Close other applications competing for system resources, then use the in-game graphs while playing to see whether the CPU or GPU is under pressure. Riot’s low client FPS troubleshooting guidance recommends this kind of targeted diagnosis.

Which graphics settings should you try?

If the graphs point to a GPU limit, test lower Material, Texture, Detail and UI Quality settings. Riot also lists Improve Clarity, Experimental Sharpening, Bloom, Distortion and Cast Shadows as effects you can try disabling when troubleshooting low client FPS. Change a small group of settings at a time, then compare performance in real matches; Riot does not promise that any one setting will produce a noticeable FPS gain on every PC.

  • Ready for Upgrades – Designed with tool-less access, easily swap out components, ensuring future-proof performance for years to come.

If the CPU is the bottleneck, graphics reductions are not a guaranteed fix. Prioritize closing resource-heavy background applications and keep observing the performance graphs. Do not assume that a visually lower preset will solve a CPU limit.

Separate rendering latency from network delay

“Input lag” can describe different problems. NVIDIA Reflex is intended to reduce and measure rendering latency; Riot’s documentation does not establish one Reflex menu choice as best for every system or guarantee a particular reduction. Riot’s NVIDIA Reflex explanation covers its role.

If FPS appears stable but movement or actions still feel delayed, inspect the in-game network graphs for RTT, jitter and processing delays rather than assuming graphics settings are responsible. Average ping alone does not capture every relevant delay. Riot’s gameplay consistency explanation describes the Network RTT + Processing Delays graph and its relationship to frame-rate and network conditions. It gives roughly 20–30 ms above Network RTT as a historical approximate indication of a reasonable value when things are working well, while explicitly noting that the ideal varies. Treat that as context, not a current universal target.

Raw Input Buffer

Riot’s October 5, 2021 Patch 3.07 note says Raw Input Buffer should provide a minor performance improvement and identical input latency with standard input devices and gaming mice. Riot reported a major performance improvement for mice polling at 8000 Hz. That historical, device-specific note is not a reason for every player to buy a high-polling-rate mouse.

AMD Anti-Lag 2

Riot added AMD Anti-Lag 2 support in Patch 12.09 (2026) for certain GPU-bound scenarios, subject to compatible hardware and updated drivers. The patch note named drivers from March 9, 2026 or later for that release; because compatibility requirements can change, check current VALORANT patch notes and AMD compatibility information before relying on it. This feature is not a general FPS fix for every PC.

Use a controlled test to keep changes useful

  1. Record the symptom. Note whether FPS drops, the game feels delayed despite stable FPS, or both occur, and identify the match conditions.
  2. Check the performance graphs. Observe CPU and GPU limits during the affected scenario; close applications competing for resources.
  3. Change settings that match the diagnosis. For a GPU limit, test the quality settings and effects Riot identifies. Avoid treating graphics changes as a cure for a CPU limit.
  4. Recheck in comparable matches. Compare the same kind of gameplay rather than relying on a quiet scene or a single moment.
  5. For persistent perceived lag, inspect network graphs. Use RTT, jitter and processing-delay information to distinguish network conditions from rendering latency.

Riot has described VALORANT’s server simulation rate as 128 updates per second in its 2022 gameplay consistency follow-up. That is an explanatory server-side figure, not a setting players can change to tune their PC’s FPS or input delay.

Settings that need system-specific testing

Display mode, resolution, VSync and FPS caps can interact with the display and hardware in different ways. The Riot guidance cited here does not establish a current universal value or setup for those options, so choose and evaluate them against your own display, performance graphs and match behavior rather than treating a preset as guaranteed.
