The right ultra short throw (UST) projector depends on your room, screen size, lighting and use—not a universal ranking. For this October 2026 guide, the five picks below are organized by buyer need, using recent specialist reviews and published specifications. They are not a controlled, head-to-head test, and prices and availability vary by country.
What is the best ultra short throw projector?
For a premium all-rounder, the AWOL Vision Aetherion Pro is a strong starting point: RTINGS named it its best UST pick in a July 2026 update, replacing the Hisense PX3-Pro. If value in a controlled-light room matters more, consider the Hisense PT1. The other picks suit buyers prioritizing a newer multipurpose model, a lower-budget option, or picture quality.
The recommendations draw on different reviews and published specifications, not one synchronized comparison. Brightness figures below use different measurement standards or are manufacturer claims, so they should not be read as directly comparable. No live price or stock check is established here; confirm local availability, exact model version and any included screen before buying.
| Pick | Best fit | Published evidence | Trade-off or check |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWOL Vision Aetherion Pro | Premium all-round use | RTINGS’ July 2026 update made it the site’s best UST pick, replacing the Hisense PX3-Pro. RTINGS | Do not confuse it with the distinct Aetherion Max; confirm which model and configuration is sold in your region. |
| Hisense PT1 | Value in controlled lighting | ProjectorCentral lists 4K DLP (3840×2160), 2500 ANSI lumens and a 1-foot-5-inch throw distance. Its reviewer recommends controlled lighting and a screen up to 120 inches. ProjectorCentral | Its stated brightness is an ANSI-lumen listing, not an ISO-lumen figure or a controlled comparison with the other picks. |
| Hisense PX4 Pro | Multipurpose cinema, TV replacement and gaming | What Hi-Fi? reports Hisense claims 3500 lumens peak brightness and 6500:1 contrast, plus a seven-level iris. Its reported launch prices were £2499, $3999 and AU$4499. What Hi-Fi? | Brightness and contrast are manufacturer claims; launch prices are not live quotes. |
| Formovie Cinema Edge | Lower-budget 4K option | TechRadar reports 1900 ISO lumens, an 80–150-inch image range and three HDMI 2.1 inputs, one with eARC. Its guide-era prices were $1,799 and £1,799. TechRadar | TechRadar notes HDR10 and HLG support but no Dolby Vision or HDR10+, and weaker color than RGB-laser rivals. Recheck current regional price. |
| LG CineBeam HU915QE | Picture quality | TechRadar lists 4K, up to 3700 ANSI lumens, a 90–120-inch image range and three HDMI inputs, one with eARC. TechRadar | “Up to” is the published figure; verify the exact model suffix and local availability. |
Which ultra short throw projector is best for my room?
Start with lighting and the screen size you can actually accommodate. A UST projector sits close to the screen, which can help when a conventional projector cannot be placed far back, but it still needs a clear, level surface and careful alignment. A large projected image also needs enough wall or screen area.
#1 Best Overall
- 10 in. Ultra Short Throw Distance
- Integrated Dolby Audio
- Triple Laser RGB Technology
- Controlled light and a screen up to 120 inches: ProjectorCentral says the Hisense PT1 is best suited to controlled lighting and up to that size.
- Flexible image size: TechRadar gives the Formovie Cinema Edge an 80–150-inch range and the LG HU915QE a 90–120-inch range. These are model-specific published ranges, not a promise that every room or setup will achieve the same result.
- Bright rooms: Compare independently measured performance where available, and treat manufacturer peak figures as claims. Do not assume a larger number guarantees a better image in your room.
- Limited installation depth: UST placement may solve a long-throw constraint, but the required distance from the wall varies by model and screen size. Use the exact model’s throw chart before choosing furniture or a screen.
Which UST projector is best for gaming, movies or sports?
Gaming
The Aetherion Max is a separate model from the Aetherion Pro; ProjectorCentral’s April 2026 review reports low-latency gaming with VRR, along with solid contrast and strong color accuracy after calibration. TechRadar highlights HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz and 1080p/240Hz gaming features on the Hisense PX3-Pro, but What Hi-Fi? identifies the PX4 Pro as its successor. Treat the PX3-Pro as a possible value option only if it remains available at a favorable local price.
What Hi-Fi? positions the PX4 Pro as a multipurpose model for cinema, a living-room TV replacement and gaming. Check the specific inputs and supported modes on the exact regional version before relying on a particular console or refresh-rate setup.
Rank #2
- World’s First UST Projector with Built-in Center Channel Speaker: Innovative center speaker mapping delivers crystal-clear dialogue directly from the screen without extra speakers. Paired with AWOL premium ALR screens and the ThunderBeat 4.2.2 surround sound system, it instantly upgrades your home theater to a 5.2.2 setup. Tip: As an ultra short throw projector, it has a fixed throw ratio of 0.25:1 (approx. 8.54" for 100", 12.84" for 150"). If your cabinet depth is insufficient, use the AWOL motorized Slider to adjust placement for perfect focus and screen size.
- All-Scene 4K 3D Triple Laser Projector: Triple Laser (No Color Wheel) + 4K UHD + Dolby Vision + HDR10+ + 3D support deliver sharp, vibrant images day or night. Combined with Dolby Atmos, enjoy immersive 3D home theater experiences any time. Tip: For the best 4K quality, ensure both your content source and playback device output in 4K resolution.
- Smart Home & Cinema Integration: Supports PJ Link IP control for seamless integration with home automation systems like Control4. Dolby Vision HDR dynamically optimizes color, contrast, and brightness, while Dolby Atmos surrounds you in sound from all directions.
- Explore the 3D Cinematic Realm: Put on active shutter 3D glasses and enter a new dimension. Connect a 3D Blu-ray player to enjoy thrilling 3D movies at home. More than a projector—it’s your key to a new entertainment realm. Source Recommendation: Use 3D Blu-ray discs with a 3D-capable player, or ensure streaming files/content are in 3D format.
- 1+ Billion Colors for Cinema-Grade Visuals: Covers 107% BT.2020 and 147% DCI-P3 for contrast and color accuracy comparable to digital cinemas. With AWOL ALR Daylight screen, enjoy bright, clear images even during the day. Best with 150” screen to replace traditional TVs for an unmatched big-screen experience.
Movies
The PX4 Pro is the more recent multipurpose candidate in this shortlist. For the Formovie Cinema Edge, TechRadar notes good contrast and detail but more limited HDR format support: HDR10 and HLG, without Dolby Vision or HDR10+. Check the formats used by your streaming services and connected devices if HDR compatibility is a priority.
Sports
TechRadar selects Epson EpiQVision Ultra LS800 for sports, but the available evidence here does not establish comparable technical specifications for it. It is a sensible model to investigate if sports is your main use, rather than a like-for-like ranked alternative in the table.

Do you need a special screen for a UST projector?
Not always, but the screen can materially affect the result. A compatible ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screen is an option for managing room light; it is not a universal requirement. Confirm whether the projector is sold alone or bundled with a screen, and make sure the screen is designed for UST projection. A wall or other surface may work, but its finish and flatness affect the image.

There is no single distance that applies to all UST models. Throw distance depends on the projector and target image size, so consult the manufacturer’s chart for the exact model before buying. Measure the furniture depth, screen position and cable route as well as the projector-to-screen gap.

Plan to square the projector to the screen and allow for placement adjustments rather than assuming a close-to-wall position is automatically plug-and-play. What Hi-Fi?

What else should you check before choosing?
