The best TV for sports depends on your room, viewing position and budget—not just its refresh-rate number. RTINGS’ current five-tier guide selects the Samsung S95H OLED, LG C6 OLED (2026), Hisense U7SG, TCL QM7K and Hisense U65QF. TechRadar’s separate US guide names the Sony Bravia 7 II as its budget pick. Here’s how to compare those choices and decide which fits your setup.

Five sports-TV picks, organized by price tier

These are recommendations from two different guides, not a single shared ranking. RTINGS’ June 2026 update identified the first five models across its price tiers; TechRadar’s September 22, 2026 update named the Sony as its US budget choice. Prices, availability and model names can vary by region and screen size, so confirm the exact local version before buying.

Tier or use TV Why consider it Trade-off to weigh
Premium Samsung S95H OLED RTINGS’ current top sports pick; it replaced the S95F in the guide’s June 16, 2026 update. Check availability and the exact size in your market.
Upper mid-range LG C6 OLED (2026) RTINGS’ upper mid-range selection, replacing the Samsung S90F in its June 2026 update. Other guides may rank models differently; compare the tier and testing criteria, not just the headline position.
Mid-range Hisense U7SG RTINGS selected it in place of the TCL QM8K in June 2026, citing newer model performance for sports. Judge glare handling, motion and broadcast processing together rather than relying on one specification.
Lower mid-range TCL QM7K RTINGS presents it as a less expensive alternative to the U7SG, with good contrast and adequate performance in indirect light. RTINGS notes a narrow viewing angle and weaker handling of direct reflections.
Budget Hisense U65QF RTINGS’ budget choice, with brightness and upscaling identified as strengths. RTINGS notes fast-motion artifacts and advises against placing it opposite direct light sources.
Alternate US budget pick Sony Bravia 7 II TechRadar’s September 22, 2026 US budget selection; its guide praises the model’s motion and brightness. That guide flags reflections and off-angle viewing as drawbacks. It is an alternative guide’s pick, not a sixth universal ranking.

How to choose for your room and the sports you watch

Bright rooms and reflections

For daytime viewing or a room with windows opposite the screen, prioritize measured brightness and reflection control. TechRadar describes the Samsung QN90F as a bright-room option with a Glare Free screen. Its 65-inch guide lists a peak-brightness measurement of 2,086 nits for the Samsung 65QN90F; that figure applies to that size and the guide’s testing, not every QN90F size or viewing mode. TechRadar also describes the set as relatively pricey and notes that Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision.

Fast motion and camera pans

A refresh-rate label does not tell the whole story. Look for how motion appears during camera pans, player movement and quick changes of direction, and consider blur and judder as well as the panel’s stated rate. TechRadar says many current TVs use 60Hz or 120Hz panels and regards 120Hz as the better choice for sports. The actual result also depends on the TV’s motion processing and the broadcast or stream being shown.

Seating across a wide couch

If people watch from seats well to the side, viewing angle matters: a picture can look substantially worse off-axis than from directly in front. RTINGS identifies wide viewing angles as useful for side-seated viewers and calls out narrow angles as a limitation on some LED candidates, including the QM7K. Consider where the least-central seat is, not only the best seat.

Broadcasts that are not 4K

Many sports feeds are not delivered in 4K. A TV’s upscaling—the processing that enlarges a lower-resolution source to fill the screen—can therefore affect the result. RTINGS includes upscaling in its comparisons and reports differences among models. If most of your viewing comes from broadcast or cable feeds rather than high-resolution streams, do not choose by panel resolution alone.

Check size, market and seating distance before buying

  • Verify the regional model: Similar model names do not guarantee identical specifications or availability across countries. Samsung Australia’s 2026 sports-TV page discusses the S90H for the Australian market; that lineup and its details should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.
  • Check the exact diagonal and SKU: Brightness measurements and features can differ by size or regional variant. Confirm the precise listing rather than assuming that a guide’s test result applies to every version.
  • Use viewing distance as a starting point: TechRadar cites manufacturer guidance of roughly 1.5 to 2.5 times the screen diagonal. Treat that as a guideline, not a universal fit rule; room layout and personal preference matter.
  • Compare current local prices: The recommendations are tiered choices, not fixed price quotes. RTINGS says availability affects its recommendations, and prices can change.

Which pick makes sense for you?

  • Choose by tier first if you already know your budget: start with RTINGS’ corresponding pick, then check its stated limitation against your room and seats.
  • Favor glare control if the screen faces bright windows or lights; the QN90F is TechRadar’s bright-room alternative, while its cost and Dolby Vision trade-offs may matter.
  • Favor motion and brightness together if sports dominate your viewing, but do not treat a refresh-rate figure as a guarantee of clear action.
  • Compare both guides if you are shopping in the US for a budget set: RTINGS names the U65QF, while TechRadar names the Bravia 7 II. Their picks reflect different guide evaluations, so use the motion, glare and angle considerations above to decide between candidates.

RTINGS describes a process involving hundreds of tests, specially designed test patterns and familiar home sources, and says it buys and tests dozens of TVs each year. Its recommendations account for model availability. These guide choices are useful shortlists, but a ranking does not replace checking the exact size, local version and conditions in your own room.
