For a new player, Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition is the safest choice when you want the full campaign package. SEGA describes it as including the main SHOGUN 2 campaign, Rise of the Samurai, Fall of the Samurai and associated downloadable content. Steam buyers also receive the original game and its DLC, except the Blood Pack. Announced pricing was £34.99, €39.99 or $39.99, but storefront prices and entitlements can vary by region and platform.
The short answer: buy Complete Edition for the broadest package
Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition is the clearest all-in-one purchase for someone starting from scratch. Its package covers three standalone campaigns spanning more than 700 years: the original SHOGUN 2 campaign, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai. SEGA also describes the package as including associated downloadable content.

There are two important qualifications. First, Steam’s package excludes the Blood Pack because of age-rating restrictions. Second, the Steam legacy-game entitlement should not be assumed on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, GOG or any other storefront; the reviewed publisher material does not establish identical contents on those platforms.
If you already own the original SHOGUN 2 on Steam, your decision is different. SEGA says existing owners receive the original game’s DLC at no extra cost, while a limited-time 75% loyalty discount has been mentioned in the publisher FAQ. Check the discount in your own account before relying on it, because eligibility and availability can expire or differ by region.

What the Complete Edition contains
Three separate campaigns

SEGA describes these as three standalone campaigns covering more than 700 years. “Standalone” means Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai are not merely mission packs inside the main campaign; each has its own campaign setting and progression. You can therefore buy Complete Edition for one campaign and still have two substantially different historical contexts available later.
Associated downloadable content
SEGA Support’s FAQ describes the package as “An updated and improved Total War: SHOGUN 2 and all of the associated DLC, including both Rise and Fall of the Samurai.” On Steam, the purchase also grants the original SHOGUN 2 and its accompanying DLC. The stated exception is the Blood Pack, which is excluded because of age ratings.
That exception matters when you compare a store page with an older list of SHOGUN 2 add-ons. Do not treat the phrase “all DLC” as proof that Blood Pack is included on Steam. If that add-on is important to you, inspect the current platform listing rather than assuming the Complete Edition changes the rating restriction.

What is updated in this edition?
The updated edition is not presented as a simple bundle of old files. SEGA lists several technical and usability changes alongside the campaigns and DLC.

Graphics and high-resolution displays
- Refreshed lighting, shadows and textures.

- A 64-bit upgrade intended to modernize the underlying game build.
These are publisher-listed changes, not an independent performance benchmark. Your frame rate and visual result will still depend on your operating system, graphics hardware, drivers and selected settings.
Controls, languages and mod support
- Modernized controls.
- Japanese and Chinese voice acting.
- Full text localization in Japanese and Chinese.
- Integrated mod support through Mod.io.
The language additions are separate from voice acting: SEGA specifically lists Japanese and Chinese voices as well as full-text localization. Check the store’s language table for the platform and region you intend to use, especially if you need a particular interface or subtitle language.
Newly playable minor factions
SEGA advertises “50+ newly playable minor factions.” That is a publisher feature claim for 2026, not an independently verified faction count. It indicates a broader selection of playable groups than the older release, but it should not be treated as a separately audited number.

No single package can be called the best value in every country without a live price check. Currency conversion, regional pricing, existing ownership and temporary discounts can reverse the result.

If you already own the original SHOGUN 2 on Steam
Do not automatically repurchase the old game
SEGA says owners of the original Steam game receive all DLC for the original game at no extra cost. The Complete Edition itself also includes the original game and its DLC for Steam buyers, apart from Blood Pack. Before paying, open your Steam library and inspect the game’s downloadable-content entries. You may already have the legacy content that you were considering buying separately.
Check the loyalty discount in your account
SEGA’s FAQ mentions a limited-time 75% loyalty discount. Treat that as an offer to verify, not a permanent entitlement. Sign in to the account that owns SHOGUN 2, open the current Complete Edition store page and confirm that the reduced price appears before checkout. A discount shown in one country or during one promotion may not appear for another account or region.
When an upgrade can still make sense
An existing owner may still want the updated edition for the refreshed lighting, shadows and textures, 1440p/4K interface scaling, modernized controls, 64-bit build, additional language support, Mod.io integration or the publisher’s newly playable minor factions. Those features are the practical reasons to compare the updated package rather than buying duplicate legacy DLC. The value depends on the price displayed to your account and how much you care about those improvements.

Buying on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store or GOG
The available publisher information confirms Steam-specific legacy entitlements but does not establish that Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG provide the same original-game or DLC bundle. A package with the same name can therefore have different contents on another storefront.

- Open the Complete Edition page on the store where you intend to play.
- Read the included-games and downloadable-content list, not just the product title.
- Confirm that SHOGUN 2, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai are named if you want all three campaigns.
- Check the language list, operating-system requirements and age-rating information.
- Compare the displayed price with any standalone campaign or legacy listing on that same store.
If the page does not clearly state whether the original SHOGUN 2 and its old DLC are included, assume that entitlement is unconfirmed until the platform or publisher clarifies it.
Price and launch timing
SEGA announced a price of £34.99 / €39.99 / $39.99. Those are announced publisher prices from 2026, not a guarantee of the amount shown in your local storefront. Taxes, regional pricing, currency conversion, launch promotions and later sales can change the checkout total.
The announced launch schedule was October 13, 2026, at 16:00 BST, 08:00 PDT and 23:00 CST, with the Japan release listed as 00:00 JST on October 14. Because the announcement was timestamped before that release window, verify the current listing and availability rather than relying on the announced schedule alone.

A practical buying checklist
- Choose your platform first. Steam’s entitlements are documented separately from other storefronts.
- List the campaigns you actually want. Complete Edition is most compelling when you want the main campaign plus both Rise and Fall.
- Check existing ownership. Steam owners may already have the original DLC and may see a temporary loyalty discount.
- Read the DLC exclusions. Blood Pack is excluded from the Steam package.
- Verify language support. The updated edition lists Japanese and Chinese voices and full-text localization, but check the store table for your platform.
- Compare live prices. The announced £34.99/€39.99/$39.99 figures are not universal real-time prices.
- Save the receipt and entitlement list. This makes it easier to distinguish a missing add-on from content that was never part of your platform’s package.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every storefront has Steam’s bundle
The original-game entitlement is specifically described for Steam. Buying a similarly named package elsewhere does not prove that the legacy game or its DLC will appear in your library.

Expecting Blood Pack to appear on Steam
Its absence is an intentional age-rating exception, not necessarily a failed installation. Confirm the store’s DLC list before purchase if that add-on is essential.
Using an old price as a current price
Publisher-announced pricing is a reference point. Your region’s storefront may show a different amount, and a temporary sale or loyalty offer may alter it again.
Buying a campaign separately without comparing the bundle
If you want both samurai-era campaigns or expect to explore the main game later, a standalone purchase can create an unnecessary second transaction. Compare the local standalone price with Complete Edition at checkout.
