The right streaming camera depends less on the biggest resolution number than on how you stream. For a fixed desk setup, the Logitech C922 Pro is a sensible starter; for movement, consider a camera with tracking. If you already use a separate microphone, Elgato Facecam’s manual image controls may suit you better than an all-in-one webcam.
This is a use-case guide, not a universal lab-tested ranking. The picks reflect the cited publishers’ recommendations and manufacturers’ published specifications; check current compatibility and local listings before buying.
How to choose a camera for streaming
Start with your framing and movement. A camera aimed at a stationary desk has different needs from one that must follow a presenter moving around a room. Then compare frame rate, focus, field of view, audio, connection, and software support. For a small facecam window, 4K is not automatically an improvement: Tom’s Guide notes that many people can save money with a lower-resolution camera unless their workflow benefits from 4K (Tom’s Guide’s webcam guide).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Resolution and frame rate: Check the modes you can actually use. The listed options range from 1080p at 30 fps to 4K at 30 fps, with several cameras also offering 1080p60.
- Framing and focus: Autofocus helps keep a subject sharp; field-of-view settings change how much of the room appears. Tracking can help when you move.
- Audio: Some webcams include microphones, while Elgato Facecam does not. If you plan to use a separate microphone, built-in audio may matter less.
- Setup: Confirm the computer connection, streaming software support, mounting arrangement, and any settings software your workflow requires.

Logitech C922 Pro: a straightforward fixed-position starter
Digital Camera World calls the C922 Pro a good fit for an average fixed-position streamer and beginners. It offers 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps, autofocus, stereo microphones, and a small bundled tripod (Digital Camera World’s streaming-camera guide). Its tradeoff is older technology rather than advanced features. Choose it if you want a basic camera for a mostly stationary setup and value the included microphone and tripod.
Elgato Facecam: manual control for a separate-audio setup
Digital Camera World highlights Facecam’s 1080p60 uncompressed video and control over image settings. Elgato’s specifications add USB-C connectivity, fixed focus, an 82-degree field of view, onboard settings memory, and a 1/4-inch mounting thread (Elgato Facecam specifications). It has no built-in microphone, so plan on separate audio if you choose it. Its fixed focus is worth considering if you expect to move nearer to or farther from the camera while streaming.

Logitech MX Brio: higher resolution with integrated microphones
Logitech lists 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps, dual beamforming microphones, AI image enhancement, and a privacy shutter for the MX Brio (Logitech MX Brio specifications). It suits someone who wants higher-resolution capture and integrated microphones in one webcam. But a 4K mode alone does not make it the best value for a small facecam; consider whether your stream or recording workflow benefits from that extra resolution.

Logitech StreamCam: 1080p60 for a presenter who moves in frame
Logitech specifies 1080p at 60 fps, autofocus, and auto-framing. Its product page lists support for OBS, XSplit, and Streamlabs OBS (Logitech StreamCam specifications). Logitech Brio 4K: multiple resolution and framing options
Logitech lists 4K at 30 fps, 1080p at up to 60 fps, and 720p at up to 90 fps, along with autofocus and field-of-view presets (Logitech Brio 4K specifications). Those options give you room to choose between detail, frame rate, and how much of your surroundings appear. It is most compelling if you will use those resolution or framing choices; for a small, fixed facecam, a lower-resolution option may be enough.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to choose active tracking instead
If you move around while presenting, a fixed webcam may not be the best fit even if its image specifications look appealing. Digital Camera World identifies the OBSBOT Tiny 2 as its movement and active-tracking option, describing 4K video, pan-and-tilt tracking, USB-C power, and OBS recognition (Digital Camera World’s streaming-camera guide). Consider it in place of a fixed-webcam alternative when keeping a moving subject framed matters more than choosing among stationary camera designs.

- Match camera placement to your stream. Decide whether you will sit at a fixed desk or move around. If you move, prioritize auto-framing or tracking over a resolution you may not use.
- Choose a usable video mode. Compare the camera’s listed resolution and frame-rate options with your intended stream or recording workflow; the highest resolution is not automatically the most useful.
- Plan your audio. The C922 Pro and MX Brio list integrated microphones, while Facecam has none. Decide whether you will use a separate microphone.
- Verify connection and software support. Elgato documents USB 3.0/USB-C requirements for Facecam; Logitech lists OBS, XSplit, and Streamlabs OBS support for StreamCam. Confirm current compatibility for your computer and software before purchase.
- Check mounting and framing. The C922 Pro includes a small tripod, while Facecam has a standard 1/4-inch mounting thread. For adjustable framing, review each model’s focus, field of view, or tracking features.
