GETDroidTips lists three regional stock-ROM packages for devices it calls the Xiaomi Poco M8x / Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G, codename “steppe.” The entries are third-party claims, not packages or flashing instructions confirmed here by Xiaomi. Verify the exact handset, codename, and ROM region with Xiaomi before downloading or flashing anything.
What firmware entries does the guide list?
GETDroidTips identifies the device as “steppe” and lists these packages on its stock ROM guide, last updated September 4, 2026:

What should you verify before considering a flash?
- Exact handset identity: The guide uses both Poco M8x and Redmi 17 5G and gives the codename “steppe.” Confirm the model number and codename for your own handset rather than relying on a shared product name.
- ROM region: The listed Global, India, and Europe packages are distinct. Do not choose a package solely because its version looks newer; match it to the handset and its software region.
- Package authority and currency: The entries come from a third-party page, not a device-specific Xiaomi confirmation. A listed patch month is not proof that a package is the newest or approved for your device.
- Official guidance: Ask Xiaomi to confirm the appropriate package and supported method for your exact handset before proceeding. The available Xiaomi statement is general and does not confirm this model’s unlock eligibility or flashing process.
What does the third-party guide say is required?
GETDroidTips describes recovery and Fastboot methods and lists a working computer, Xiaomi USB drivers, at least 50% battery, and a complete backup as prerequisites. Its Fastboot route also calls for Xiaomi Mi Flash software. These are the page’s stated prerequisites and methods, not independently verified instructions for this model.

A USB data cable may be needed to connect the handset to a computer; ensure it supports data transfer, not just charging. The cited pages do not identify or validate a particular cable.
What are the risks of unlocking and flashing?
Xiaomi UK Support gives this general warning: “To ensure the safety of your device, avoid unlocking the Bootloader.” Xiaomi says unlocking can expose system permissions to malicious software or unverified firmware, affect warranty and future service, and result in data loss, boot failures, or compatibility problems with unsupported ROMs. This warning is not a model-specific description of unlock eligibility or procedure. Read Xiaomi UK Support’s bootloader guidance and ask Xiaomi or qualified service personnel about implications for your device and region.

The GETDroidTips page also warns of possible device damage. A backup can reduce the impact of some data loss, but it cannot eliminate the risks of an incompatible package or a failed flash.
When is it better not to proceed yourself?
If you cannot establish the exact handset variant, matching region, package source, or an officially supported procedure, do not guess between the entries or begin flashing. Contact Xiaomi support or seek qualified service instead. That is especially prudent if preserving warranty or future service options matters to you.
