Sony’s wired headphones in this shortlist suit different priorities: a straightforward over-ear pair, a model with an inline mic, battery-powered noise cancelling, or higher-feature closed designs with detachable cables. This is a practical comparison based on Sony’s published specifications—not a sound-quality ranking or hands-on test. Check your local listing for the exact model suffix, included cables and availability before buying.
How to choose among Sony’s wired headphones
Start with the features that affect how you will use the headphones: on-ear or over-ear fit, whether you need an inline microphone, whether the cable detaches, and whether you want noise cancelling that requires a battery. Impedance and frequency-response figures below are manufacturer specifications, not proof that one model sounds better than another.
| Model | Fit and intended distinction | Cable, microphone and power | What Sony specifies |
|---|---|---|---|
| MDR-ZX110 | Closed, over-ear; simple wired option | Fixed 3.94-foot cord; no microphone detail established in the cited specification | 24 ohms; 12–22,000 Hz |
| MDR-ZX310AP | On-ear; AP variant includes a microphone according to Sony’s regional comparison | 3.94-foot cord; four-conductor plug; variant details may differ by market | 24 ohms; 10–24,000 Hz |
| MDR-1AM2 | Closed, over-ear; feature-rich cable setup | Detachable cables, including an inline microphone/remote cable and a balanced cable; no battery requirement stated | 40 mm drivers; 16 ohms; 3 Hz–100,000 Hz response under JEITA |
| MDR-ZX110NC | Wired noise-cancelling option | Noise cancelling depends on battery power; inline microphone | Sony lists different impedance and sensitivity for powered and unpowered operation |
| MDR-Z7 | Closed, over-ear; detachable-cable setup | Detachable cables; standard and balanced cables included; confirm device output compatibility | 70 ohms |

Choose the MDR-ZX110 for a basic over-ear wired pair
Sony identifies the MDR-ZX110 as a closed, over-ear dynamic headphone with a fixed 3.94-foot cord. Its listed impedance is 24 ohms and its specified frequency response is 12–22,000 Hz. Those figures describe the product; they do not establish comfort or sound quality. See Sony’s MDR-ZX110 specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the MDR-ZX310AP if you need an inline microphone
The MDR-ZX310AP is an on-ear model. Sony’s US specification page lists a 3.94-foot cord, a four-conductor plug, 24-ohm impedance and a 10–24,000 Hz response. Sony’s Saudi Arabia comparison identifies the AP version as including a microphone. Because model configurations can vary by region, check that the exact listing says MDR-ZX310AP and confirms the microphone. Sources: Sony US specifications and Sony Saudi Arabia comparison.
Choose the MDR-1AM2 for detachable cables and included cable options
Sony Japan documents 40 mm drivers, 16-ohm impedance, detachable cables, an inline microphone/remote cable and a balanced cable for the MDR-1AM2. Its specified 3 Hz–100,000 Hz response is measured under JEITA; a wide stated range is not evidence of audible superiority. Sony Japan also says the model is no longer carried by its Sony Store, which does not establish its availability in every other market. Check the local listing and included accessories. Choose the MDR-ZX110NC if you want wired noise cancelling
The MDR-ZX110NC combines a wired connection with noise cancelling, an inline microphone and a battery. Sony lists different impedance and sensitivity values when the headphones are powered and unpowered, so the operating state matters when interpreting those specifications. If you need noise cancelling, account for battery power rather than assuming the feature works solely from the audio connection. Source: Sony specifications.
Choose the MDR-Z7 if detachable standard and balanced cables matter
Sony lists the MDR-Z7 as a closed, over-ear model with 70-ohm impedance and detachable cables; standard and balanced cables are included. Before choosing it, confirm that your audio source supports the connection you plan to use and that the model is currently sold in your region. Source: Sony specifications.

Check the exact model and local listing
- Verify the suffix. MDR-ZX310 and MDR-ZX310AP are not interchangeable assumptions; Sony’s regional comparison documents variant differences.
- Confirm the cable and connector. A fixed cable, detachable cable, four-conductor plug and balanced cable serve different setups. Check the specific product listing for the included items and connector details.
- Match the connection to your device. The MDR-Z7’s 70-ohm rating and balanced-cable option are specifications, not a guarantee that every device can drive or connect to it appropriately.
- Check stock separately from catalogue presence. Sony’s US headphones and earbuds catalogue includes wired models, but catalogue listings do not guarantee current availability.
