Some Sonos speakers can handle bathroom humidity, rain, or brief submersion—but the limits depend on the model. Move and Move 2 are IP56-rated for splashes, rain, and snow, while Roam models and Sonos Play have IP67 guidance for limited submersion. Humidity resistance alone does not mean a speaker is safe to get wet.
What Sonos water resistance means
Sonos describes different kinds of protection, and they are not interchangeable. A humidity-resistant speaker may be suitable for a bathroom, but that does not permit direct water exposure. IP56 guidance for Move models covers splashes and weather; IP67 guidance for Roam models and Sonos Play includes a limited submersion allowance.
Sonos warns that products not described as waterproof may be damaged by direct water exposure or by being left outside for extended periods. Check the guidance for your exact model rather than treating every Sonos speaker as water resistant. Sonos’s speaker placement guidance explains which products are humidity resistant and appropriate for bathroom placement.

Can you use a Sonos speaker in a bathroom?
Sonos says some products have sealed designs that make them humidity resistant and suitable for bathroom use. This is guidance for humidity, not for direct splashes or water spray. Keep a humidity-resistant speaker away from the shower stream, sink splashes, and other direct water exposure unless its own model-specific guidance explicitly allows that exposure.

Can Move or Move 2 be left in the rain?
Move and Move 2 have an IP56 rating. Sonos says this covers water such as splashes, rain, and snow, but the speakers are not waterproof. Do not submerge them or expose them to pressurized water, including a shower. Bring them indoors after outdoor use; the charging base is not weather resistant. Can Roam, Roam SL, Roam 2, or Sonos Play be submerged?
Roam family
Sonos’s Roam guidance applies to Roam, Roam SL, and Roam 2. It specifies IP67 and says the speaker can be submerged to 3 ft (1 m) for a short period. The guidance does not give a precise duration for that “short period,” so do not assume it matches another product’s limit. Sonos advises against salt-water exposure and long-term outdoor placement. Sonos Play
Sonos specifies IP67 and submersion at 3 ft (1 m) for up to 30 minutes for Sonos Play. This is a defined limit, not a recommendation for routine underwater use. Sonos recommends storing the speaker indoors when it is not in use. See Sonos Play’s water and dust guidance.
Keep charging equipment dry
Protection for the speaker does not extend to its charging equipment. Sonos says Move and Sonos Play charging bases, along with Roam charging accessories, are not weather resistant. Before charging a speaker that has been exposed to water, make sure the speaker and its contacts or charging port are dry. Keep charging accessories indoors.

What the IP ratings do—and do not—tell you
The published ratings and exposure limits describe the models and conditions Sonos names; they do not establish a typical lifespan or the likelihood of damage in everyday use. The Roam guidance says “a short period” without specifying a duration, while Sonos gives Play a limit of up to 30 minutes at 3 ft (1 m). Do not transfer one model’s stated limit to another.
