Start by confirming the model number on the robot or in the SharkClean app. For carpet and pet hair, use the documented Matrix Clean multi-pass feature and the self-cleaning brushroll; Shark does not document a separate “Pet” mode for Matrix Plus. For mopping, mark rugs with Carpet Zones or no-go zones before the first mopping run, but verify the exact controls in your model’s guide because the published zone instructions are for the related 2400WD series, not confirmed for every Matrix Plus model.
Confirm your exact Matrix Plus model first
Settings are not guaranteed to be identical across Shark’s robot families. The Shark customer-service manual index identifies an RV2600WA Series Matrix Plus Owner’s Guide and Quick Start Guide. The Matrix Plus product material identifies the RV2610WA Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 robot vacuum. The detailed, indexed instructions for Carpet Zones and no-go zones, however, come from a 2400WD Matrix 2-in-1 manual excerpt. That is a related series, not proof that every RV2600WA or RV2610WA screen uses the same labels or behaves in exactly the same way.
Before changing a map, read the owner guide for the model number printed on your unit. Treat the steps below as a model-aware decision guide: use a control only when it appears in your current SharkClean app or your model’s manual.
- RV2600WA series: use the Matrix Plus owner documentation listed for that series.
- RV2610WA: the product page documents Matrix Clean, mapping and a self-cleaning brushroll, but the available zone excerpt is not confirmed as its exact interface.
- 2400WD series: its guide explicitly describes Carpet Zones and no-go zones for keeping the robot away from rugs while mopping. Do not silently substitute this guide for an RV2600WA/RV2610WA guide.
For carpet: use Matrix Clean, not an undocumented carpet mode
What Matrix Clean does
Shark describes Matrix Clean as a precision grid that makes multiple passes over an area instead of relying on a single straight pass. This is the documented cleaning feature most relevant to carpet settings. It is not evidence of a dedicated “Carpet” or “Deep Carpet” switch in the app.

On the RV2610WA product page, Shark reports 30% better carpet cleaning than RV2610WD single-pass cleaning on level-loop sand. That number is a Shark comparison under the stated level-loop-sand test condition, not an independent laboratory result and not a guarantee for every carpet type, soil load or home.
How to apply it in a mixed-floor home
- Confirm that your robot and current app expose Matrix Clean or the corresponding multi-pass cleaning behavior.
- For a vacuuming run, include the carpeted rooms or carpeted map areas in the cleaning selection.
- Let the grid-style passes finish instead of cancelling after the first visible pass; the feature’s purpose is repeated coverage.
- For rugs that must be protected from water, switch to the mopping safeguards in the next section. Carpet cleaning and carpet avoidance are different tasks.
Do not use the 30% figure as a pet-hair rating. The published comparison measures carpet cleaning against a specified sand test; it does not establish performance for long hair, dense shedding, shag rugs or a particular fiber.
For pets: rely on the brushroll and documented multi-pass cleaning
There is no documented Matrix Plus “Pet” setting
The available Shark material does not establish a dedicated Pet mode, pet suction level or pet-hair preset for Matrix Plus. If you cannot find a Pet button, that is consistent with the documented feature set. Do not create a setting recommendation from an unlabeled suction slider or from another Shark model’s menu.

What the self-cleaning brushroll supports
Shark markets the RV2610WA’s self-cleaning brushroll for picking up hair and debris. That makes it the relevant hardware feature for homes with shedding animals. It does not mean the robot will remove every strand, avoid all tangles or perform equally on every rug. The available official material contains no independent pet-hair study or published household outcome figure.
A practical pet-hair routine
- Select the carpeted rooms for vacuuming and use Matrix Clean or its documented multi-pass behavior when available.
- Keep the brushroll’s self-cleaning function enabled if your model presents it as a setting; do not assume a similarly named control exists on every series.
- Inspect the robot after early runs for hair accumulation, especially if your animal sheds long hair. A self-cleaning design reduces buildup but is not a promise of zero maintenance.
- Use the app’s targeted cleaning or room selection for a visibly dirty area when those controls are present. Shark’s product-family material discusses targeted cleaning, but exact controls can vary by model and software version.
Shark also reports 50% better targeted stain cleaning than RV2001WD under a modified IEC 62885-6 method. That statistic concerns targeted Matrix Mop cleaning, not carpet vacuuming or pet-hair pickup, so it should not be used to predict either of those results.
Keep rugs dry during mopping with Carpet Zones or no-go zones
Carpet Zones
The 2400WD manual excerpt instructs owners to identify carpets and rugs with Carpet Zones so the robot avoids them when it mops. It specifically says to set up Carpet Zones before the first mopping run. This is the most direct choice when you want the robot to mop hard floors but automatically avoid mapped rugs.

No-go zones
The same excerpt presents no-go zones as another way to stop the robot entering rugs during mopping. A no-go zone is a map boundary: it blocks the robot from entering the marked area rather than identifying the floor as carpet. That can be useful when you need a permanent exclusion around a rug, pet-water station, cables or another area, provided your exact model supports the control.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Control | Documented purpose | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet Zone | Identify a carpet or rug for avoidance during mopping | Use when the app offers floor-type marking and you want the robot to recognize mapped rugs |
| No-go zone | Block entry to a marked map area | Use when you need a boundary around a rug or another permanently protected area |
Neither option is universally better. The right choice depends on the map, the cleaning mode and the controls supported by your model’s app version.
Model-safe setup procedure
- Read the owner guide for your exact model number and open the current SharkClean map.
- Look for the map-editing control that your guide calls Carpet Zones, no-go zones or an equivalent zone tool.
- Mark each rug’s full footprint, including the edge where a damp pad could reach it. For a no-go zone, draw the exclusion boundary around the area you want protected.
- Save the map and check that the marked area remains visible before starting the first mopping run.
- Run the mop only after the zone setup is complete. The 2400WD instructions make this a precondition for the first mopping run; confirm the same requirement in your Matrix Plus guide.
Do not infer that a Carpet Zone created for mopping will change every vacuum run. The documented instruction is specifically about avoiding rugs during mopping. Check your model’s guide for how zones behave in vacuum-only, mop-only and combined runs.

Choosing settings for common floor plans
Hard floors with several area rugs
For vacuuming, select the rooms and use Matrix Clean where available. Before mopping, create Carpet Zones for each rug or use no-go zones if your model provides only boundary-style exclusions. Verify the saved map before sending the robot out with a wet pad.
Wall-to-wall carpet with a shedding pet
Use the documented multi-pass Matrix Clean behavior and the self-cleaning brushroll. There is no established Pet mode to activate. Expect the result to depend on carpet construction, hair length and how much debris is present; Shark’s 30% sand-test comparison does not predict pet-hair removal.
One rug that must never be entered
A no-go zone is the clearest boundary-based approach when supported by your model. If the app instead offers Carpet Zones, mark the rug as carpet and confirm that the setting applies to the mopping run you intend to start.

A temporary spill or dirty patch
Use targeted cleaning or room selection only if those controls appear for your model. The 50% targeted-stain figure is a Shark claim for Matrix Mop cleaning under a modified IEC 62885-6 method; it is not evidence about vacuuming a pet-hair patch.
Troubleshooting settings that do not behave as expected
The robot mops a rug despite a zone
- Stop the run and confirm that the robot is using the map on which the zone was created.
- Check that the zone was saved before the mopping run began and covers the entire rug, not just its center.
- Verify the model number. The published Carpet Zone/no-go-zone instructions are from the 2400WD series and may not match an RV2600WA or RV2610WA interface.
- Read the exact owner guide and current in-app labels before adding another boundary; overlapping or incorrectly placed areas can make a map harder to interpret.
You cannot find a Pet mode
Do not assume the app is malfunctioning. The documented Matrix Plus features are Matrix Clean and a self-cleaning brushroll; the available material does not establish a Pet preset. Use the supported cleaning controls instead.
Carpet performance is below expectations
- Confirm that the carpeted rooms are included in the vacuuming selection.
- Allow the multi-pass cleaning cycle to complete.
- Inspect the brushroll after a run, particularly with long pet hair. Self-cleaning construction is intended to pick up hair and debris but does not guarantee that no hair will remain.
- Do not treat Shark’s 30% sand-test comparison as a promise for your carpet, and do not apply the 50% mop-stain figure to vacuum results.
The app labels do not match the manual
Shark’s documentation covers multiple robot series, and app labels can change by model or software version. Use the model-specific guide and the controls actually shown in your current app rather than following a 2400WD instruction word for word on an RV2600WA/RV2610WA.
What the documented settings can—and cannot—promise
Matrix Clean is a documented multi-pass grid feature, and the self-cleaning brushroll is marketed for hair and debris pickup. Carpet Zones and no-go zones are documented in the 2400WD manual excerpt as ways to keep rugs out of a mopping path. Those facts support practical setup choices, but they do not establish a universal Pet mode, identical controls across every Matrix Plus model, independent pet-hair results or guaranteed avoidance behavior in every app version.
The RV2610WA product page lists a filter, side brush and reusable mop pads among the included components. Those accessories do not change the map-setting rules: use the guide for your exact model when a replacement, maintenance or app control question arises.
