Start with the preset or cooking chart for your exact microwave air fryer combo. There is no universal time-and-temperature chart: models differ in their controls, accessories, portions, and food instructions. If your appliance has no matching preset, use a manual setting only when its manual provides one, and monitor the food as directed.
Why the exact model matters
A microwave air fryer combo may offer named food presets, a temperature-and-time control, or both. Even when two appliances cook the same food, their recommended portions, rack or basket arrangement, and prompts to turn or stir can differ. Do not transfer a time, temperature, or accessory setup from another model as if it were interchangeable.
Find the model number on the appliance label, then open that model’s owner’s manual or manufacturer recipe chart. Whirlpool notes that an interior sticker may also provide guidance, and directs owners to the manual for model-specific information.

Example settings from a Whirlpool over-the-range model
For its described over-the-range microwave, Whirlpool gives a default air-fry temperature of 425°F (218°C), with a manual range of 400°F (204°C) to 450°F (232°C). Its food examples are suggestions for that appliance—not a general-purpose chart for all combos. See Whirlpool’s air-fry instructions.

| Food | Whirlpool example | What to follow |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh vegetables such as broccoli or cauliflower | 400°F (204°C) | Use the vegetable preset if your model has one; otherwise follow its manual and monitor cooking. |
| Fresh chicken, including wings or breast | 425°F (218°C) | Follow that model’s portion and arrangement directions. This cooking setting is not a food-safety doneness temperature. |
| Frozen fries, potato wedges, or chicken nuggets | 450°F (232°C) | Check the appliance chart and food package; turn or flip only as the recipe or appliance directs. |
Whirlpool’s countertop microwave has a separate preset list, including roast potatoes, broccoli, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, chicken nuggets, chicken wings, and French fries. Its chart gives quantity ranges for some items: 6–18 oz for nuggets, 8–20 oz for wings, and one to four servings for fries. These are countertop-model presets, not evidence that the over-the-range settings or quantities apply to every Whirlpool or other brand’s appliance. See Whirlpool’s countertop microwave guidance.
Examples from other model-specific charts
Panasonic NN-CD87
Panasonic’s chart for the NN-CD87 lists thin frozen fries at 20–30 minutes for 8–16 oz and 30–40 minutes for 16–32 oz. It lists frozen chicken nuggets at 20–30 minutes for 16–40 oz, and homemade fries at 30–40 minutes for 16–32 oz. For larger quantities, the instructions say to stir at two-thirds of the total cooking time. These times depend on the NN-CD87’s instructions and setup; do not use them as timings for another combo. The guide specifies a basket on a wire rack with an enamel tray. See Panasonic’s NN-CD87 air-fry guide.

Other manufacturer examples
Manufacturer charts can differ even for familiar foods. Hamilton Beach’s air-fryer manual, for a different appliance category rather than a microwave combo, gives examples of 375°F for regular frozen fries and 350°F for cauliflower. Those figures should not be treated as microwave-combo settings. GE also publishes microwave air-fry cooking guidance; consult the instructions for the specific GE model rather than applying another manufacturer’s settings.

- Identify your exact model. Use its manual, preset chart, or recipe guide—not a chart for a similar-looking appliance.
- Choose the matching preset when available. Confirm that the food and portion match the preset’s instructions. If using manual air fry, use only a temperature and time range tied to your model.
- Set up the supplied accessories as directed. Basket, rack, tray, and turntable arrangements are model-specific. For example, Whirlpool says to center its basket and keep it from touching the cavity wall; Panasonic specifies a basket on a wire rack and an enamel tray for the NN-CD87.
- Stay within the listed quantity. A larger load does not necessarily cook correctly if you simply multiply the time. Find the chart entry for the actual weight or number of servings.
- Arrange food and intervene as instructed. Use a single layer where the recipe calls for one, and turn, flip, or stir when the chart or appliance prompt says to.
- Check progress using the appliance’s directions. Preset labels and results are model-dependent; use the manual’s guidance if the food needs more cooking.
What these settings do—and do not—tell you
Air-fry time and temperature instructions describe how to operate a particular appliance for a particular food and portion. They do not establish a safe internal temperature for meat or poultry. The manufacturer guidance cited here does not provide a general food-safety doneness threshold, so do not use an air-fry temperature such as 425°F as a substitute for checking food safety with an appropriate authoritative food-safety resource.

- Multi functionality: BAKE, ROAST, MICROWAVE, CONVECTION OVEN
- 5 ONE TOUCH COOK MENUS: POTATO, POPCORN, BEVERAGE, REHEAT, FROZEN DINNER
- Air fryer: Up to 70% less fat than traditional frying methods
- SPECIAL PROGRAM: DEFROST/TIME/WEIGHT; 1000W power
- 10 POWER LEVELS
Likewise, the available manufacturer examples do not establish a validated conversion formula between combo models. Differences in mode, portion, shape, accessories, and turning or stirring instructions make a direct time conversion unreliable.
