Yes—but “Odyssey G7” is a family name, not a guaranteed resolution. Samsung’s G70B and G70D models are 4K UHD monitors (3,840 × 2,160), while the original 2020 Odyssey G7 is QHD (2,560 × 1,440). Check the complete model code and screen size before buying.
Which Samsung Odyssey G7 monitors are 4K?
Samsung uses “Odyssey G7” across multiple generations. The 4K members documented on Samsung product pages are the Odyssey G70B and Odyssey G70D. Both reach a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz and use IPS panels in the cited sizes. The older curved Odyssey G7 listed in Samsung’s August 2020 datasheet is QHD rather than 4K.
For a current US example, the 27-inch G70D carries model code LS27DG702ENXZA and lists 3,840 × 2,160 resolution, 144 Hz, an IPS panel and 1 ms GTG response. Samsung’s 32-inch UK G70D page lists the same 4K resolution and 144 Hz ceiling. The 28-inch US G70B is also specified as 4K IPS at up to 144 Hz.

What “4K” means on an Odyssey G7
4K UHD is a 3,840 × 2,160 pixel grid, totaling about 8.3 million pixels. QHD is 2,560 × 1,440, or about 3.7 million pixels. A 4K G7 therefore renders more than twice as many pixels as the older QHD model. Text and fine game details can look more defined, but driving that resolution at high frame rates requires substantially more graphics processing than QHD.
Resolution is independent of refresh rate. The G70B and G70D combine 4K with a maximum 144 Hz refresh rate, meaning the display can accept up to 144 frames per second when the computer or console supplies them. It does not guarantee that every game will run at 144 frames per second.
Samsung Odyssey G70D specifications
| Model and market | Size and panel | Resolution | Refresh and response rating | Brightness and contrast | HDR and sync features |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 27-inch G70D, US (LS27DG702ENXZA) | 27-inch IPS | 3,840 × 2,160 (4K UHD) | Up to 144 Hz; 1 ms GTG | 350 cd/m² typical; 1000:1 static | VESA DisplayHDR 400; HDR10+ Gaming; FreeSync Premium; G-Sync Compatible |
| 32-inch G70D, UK | 32-inch IPS | 3,840 × 2,160 (4K UHD) | Up to 144 Hz; 1 ms GTG | 350 cd/m² typical; 1000:1 static | VESA DisplayHDR 400; adaptive-sync details are not stated on the cited UK page |
The two G70D listings show why the suffix and region matter. The core panel figures match in the cited pages, while the US page explicitly lists both FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support and HDR10+ Gaming. The UK page additionally describes an ergonomic stand and Samsung’s CoreSync/CoreLighting+ illumination features. Do not assume that every regional suffix includes exactly the same software, lighting or connectivity package.

The older Odyssey G7 is QHD, not 4K
Samsung’s August 2020 Odyssey G7 datasheet specifies a resolution of 2,560 × 1,440 (QHD). That model is often recognized by its earlier launch period and curved gaming-monitor design, but the “G7” badge alone cannot distinguish it from later 4K G70B and G70D products. The original specification is documented in Samsung’s August 2020 Odyssey G7 datasheet.
If a listing says only “Samsung Odyssey G7” and omits a code such as G70B or G70D, treat the resolution as unconfirmed. A QHD panel may be a perfectly suitable high-refresh display, but it is not interchangeable with a 4K model for pixel count, GPU load or desktop workspace.

- Find the complete model code. Look for a code beginning with the size and series identifier, such as LS27DG702ENXZA or LS28BG702ENXGO. Do not rely on a retailer’s shortened “G7” title.
- Match the screen size. A 27-inch, 28-inch and 32-inch listing can belong to different regional pages or generations. Record the diagonal size alongside the code.
- Read the resolution field. Confirm that it says 3,840 × 2,160 or 4K UHD. “UHD,” “4K UHD” and the pixel dimensions should agree; a 2,560 × 1,440 entry is QHD.
- Check the manufacturer page for your region. Samsung’s US and UK pages can list different HDR, sync, lighting or stand details. Regional availability and included features should be confirmed for the market where you will use the monitor.
- Compare the remaining specifications. Check refresh rate, panel type, stated response-time method, brightness, contrast, HDR designation, adaptive-sync support and smart or lighting functions before comparing prices.
What the main G7 features mean in practice
IPS panel
The cited 4K G70B and G70D examples use IPS panels. IPS describes the panel technology; it does not by itself guarantee a particular contrast ratio, black level, viewing angle or motion result. Samsung’s published 27-inch and 32-inch G70D figures include a 1000:1 static contrast specification.
144 Hz refresh rate
144 Hz is the maximum stated refresh rate for the G70B and G70D examples. To benefit from it, the source device must output a compatible signal at the selected resolution and refresh rate. Game settings, graphics hardware, cable capability and the selected input can limit the actual mode available.
1 ms GTG
Samsung labels the response rating as 1 ms GTG (gray-to-gray). GTG is a measurement method and a manufacturer rating, not a promise that every pixel transition will complete in 1 ms under every overdrive setting. It should not be treated as an independently tested motion-blur or input-lag result.

Brightness, contrast and HDR
The cited G70D pages list 350 cd/m² typical brightness and 1000:1 static contrast. Both G70B and G70D examples carry VESA DisplayHDR 400; the G70B page also lists HDR10+ and HDR10+ Gaming, while the US G70D page lists HDR10+ Gaming. HDR labels identify supported standards or certification levels, but they do not replace an independent assessment of brightness consistency, local dimming or highlight detail.

Adaptive sync
The US G70D listing names FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible. The G70B listing names FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatible. Adaptive sync coordinates the display’s refresh timing with a compatible graphics source to reduce tearing when frame rates fluctuate. Support can depend on the connection, graphics driver and selected mode.
Stand and lighting features
Samsung’s UK G70D description includes ergonomic stand adjustments and CoreSync/CoreLighting+ features. These are convenience and appearance features rather than changes to the 4K pixel count. Confirm the exact regional listing if stand movement or rear lighting is important to your setup.

This table compares only what Samsung states on the cited pages. It does not establish which version has lower input lag, better overdrive tuning, stronger HDR effects or superior image quality. Those questions require controlled independent testing, which is separate from the manufacturer specification.
Is a 4K G7 the right resolution for your setup?
- Choose 4K when fine detail and desktop space are priorities. The 3,840 × 2,160 grid provides more pixels for detailed game scenes, high-resolution media and multiple application windows.
- Plan for the graphics workload. Rendering more than twice the pixels of QHD can reduce frame rates at the same quality settings. A high-refresh 4K monitor does not create extra frames; the computer or console must render them.
- Choose based on viewing distance and size. A 27-inch 4K panel packs pixels more densely than a 32-inch 4K panel. The larger model can be easier to read from farther away, while the smaller model concentrates detail in a compact area.
- Do not buy on the G7 name alone. The 2020 QHD G7 and later 4K G70B/G70D displays can all appear in search results under similar wording.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: assuming every G7 is 4K
Fix: Verify the pixel dimensions and full model code. The older datasheet’s 2,560 × 1,440 specification is conclusive for that generation.

Mistake: treating “144 Hz” as guaranteed in every mode
Fix: Confirm that your graphics source, cable, input and game settings can deliver 4K at the desired refresh rate. Samsung states a maximum of 144 Hz for the cited models, not a universal frame-rate guarantee.
Mistake: reading 1 ms as a laboratory result
Fix: Interpret 1 ms GTG as Samsung’s stated rating. Look for independent measurements if motion clarity or input lag is a deciding factor.
Mistake: assuming regional pages are identical
Fix: Use the Samsung page for your country and match its code, size, HDR formats, adaptive-sync tier, stand and lighting details to the listing you intend to purchase.
Bottom line
The answer to “Is the Samsung Odyssey G7 4K?” is sometimes. Samsung’s G70B and G70D variants are 4K UHD models, including the cited 28-inch G70B and 27-inch and 32-inch G70D examples. The older 2020 Odyssey G7 is QHD. Confirm the exact model code, screen size and regional specification before treating any G7 listing as a 4K monitor.
