Galaxy S26 Ultra is Samsung’s current phone with 100x Space Zoom. Samsung’s documented Ultra lineup also includes the Galaxy S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra 5G, S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra. The “100x” figure is a maximum Space Zoom rating that combines optical or optical-quality magnification with digital processing; it is not a 100x optical lens.
This guide identifies each qualifying model, explains Samsung’s terminology, shows how the feature differs from ordinary Galaxy S, S+ and FE versions, and sets realistic expectations for using extreme zoom.
Samsung phones with 100x zoom at a glance
As of October 13, 2026, Samsung’s current mobile pages list the Galaxy S26 Ultra with up to 100x Space Zoom. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter report records the Galaxy S26 series release in March 2026. Because regional pages and inventory can change, confirm the exact model sold in your country before buying.
| Phone | Maximum advertised reach | What Samsung’s documentation says | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | 100x Space Zoom | Current Samsung mobile pages list 100x Space Zoom and a 200 MP wide camera. Samsung Gulf mobile pages | Current-generation answer; regional model and availability should be checked. |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra | Up to 100x Space Zoom | The specification sheet lists 3x and 5x optical zoom, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom, and 100x Space Zoom. Samsung S25 Ultra specification sheet | Samsung describes the 100x mode as digital beyond its optical and optical-quality steps. |
| Galaxy S24 Ultra | Up to 100x | Samsung’s S24 comparison assigns up to 100x to the Ultra; the other S24 models have lower maximum zoom. Samsung S24 model comparison | “Galaxy S24” by itself is imprecise; the 100x specification belongs to S24 Ultra. |
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | 100x Space Zoom | Samsung support material covers S23 Ultra and explains AI and multiframe processing used for Space Zoom. Samsung Space Zoom support | Do not apply the Ultra specification to the regular S23 or S23+. |
| Galaxy S22 Ultra | Up to 100x | Samsung’s camera support page reports up to 100x for S22 Ultra and up to 30x for S22 and S22+. Samsung S22 camera support | The 100x claim is an Ultra-only feature within this generation. |
| Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G | 100x Space Zoom | Samsung Newsroom describes 10x optical zoom plus up to 100x Super Resolution Zoom. Samsung Newsroom launch announcement | “Super Resolution Zoom” is Samsung’s launch-era term for the processed high-magnification range. |
| Galaxy S20 Ultra | 100x Space Zoom | Samsung says 100x Space Zoom applies to S20 Ultra, while S20 and S20+ reach up to 30x Super Resolution Digital Zoom. Samsung Singapore camera guide | Earliest model in this documented sequence; base and Plus models stop at 30x. |
The figures above are manufacturer specifications or product-page descriptions, not independent laboratory measurements. They establish which models advertise the mode, not that every generation produces identical results at 100x.

What “100x” means on a Samsung phone
It is Space Zoom, not a 100x optical lens
Space Zoom is Samsung’s name for a zoom system that combines lens magnification, sensor cropping and computational processing. A true 100x optical system would require a far longer physical focal length than a phone body normally accommodates. Samsung instead advertises a maximum on-screen magnification produced by several stages.
The clearest terminology comes from Samsung’s S25 Ultra materials. That model has 3x and 5x optical zoom positions, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom positions, and up to 100x Space Zoom. Samsung’s UK product notes separately describe 10x optical-quality zoom plus up to 100x digital zoom. In practical terms, the first part uses dedicated optics or a sensor crop designed to preserve more detail; the range above that relies increasingly on digital enlargement and algorithms.
Optical, optical-quality and digital are different claims
- Optical zoom: Magnification produced by changing the camera’s optical path. Samsung lists 3x and 5x optical zoom for S25 Ultra.
- Optical-quality zoom: Samsung’s label for selected magnification levels that use hardware and high-resolution sensor data to target optical-like detail. S25 Ultra documentation lists 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom.
- Digital zoom: Enlargement created by cropping and processing the captured image. Samsung’s S25 notes describe the reach from the optical-quality range to 100x as digital zoom.
- Space Zoom: Samsung’s umbrella term for the complete zoom range, including optical, optical-quality and digital stages.
These labels are generation-specific. A specification sheet for one Ultra should not be treated as a specification for another Ultra.

Why the camera changes behavior as you zoom
At low magnification, the app can choose among its main and telephoto cameras. At intermediate levels, it may combine a telephoto lens with a high-resolution crop. Near the advertised maximum, the view is dominated by cropping and computational reconstruction. The transition can be automatic, so the preview may change brightness, field of view or detail as you move through the zoom slider. That behavior is normal for a multi-camera phone and is another reason not to compare a 3x optical position directly with a 100x Space Zoom frame.
Samsung’s own quality qualification
Samsung’s S25 Ultra UK product notes state: “Zoom distances past 10x zoom may express some image deterioration.” That is Samsung’s product-page qualification, not an independent test score. It means the 100x setting is useful as a maximum framing option, while fine detail can become less reliable as magnification increases.
How the 100x Ultra lineup developed
Galaxy S20 Ultra: the first model in this documented sequence
Samsung’s Singapore support material distinguishes the S20 family clearly: S20 Ultra supports 100x Space Zoom, while S20 and S20+ top out at 30x Super Resolution Digital Zoom. If you are looking at a used S20-series phone, the “Ultra” name is essential; the lower-priced siblings do not share the advertised maximum.
Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G: 10x optical plus Super Resolution
Samsung’s 2021 UK launch announcement describes S21 Ultra 5G as offering 10x optical zoom and up to 100x Super Resolution Zoom. The wording reflects Samsung’s launch terminology and emphasizes that 100x is a processed extension of the optical system rather than a 100x lens.

Galaxy S22 Ultra: 100x versus 30x inside one family
Samsung’s S22 camera guide reports up to 100x for S22 Ultra and up to 30x for both S22 and S22+. This is a useful buying warning: seeing “S22” in a listing does not identify the camera capability. Check for the full Ultra model name.
Galaxy S23 Ultra: AI and multiframe processing
Samsung’s Space Zoom support page includes S23 Ultra and explains enhancements such as AI Zoom and multiframe processing. These systems combine information from multiple frames and apply computational reconstruction as the magnification rises. The documentation supports the feature description, but it does not provide an independent ranking of S23 Ultra image quality against other generations.
Galaxy S24 Ultra: the Ultra designation still matters
Samsung’s S24 comparison page assigns up to 100x to S24 Ultra and lists lower maximum zoom levels for the other S24 phones. Therefore, a listing or advertisement that says only “Galaxy S24 100x” is incomplete; the supported model is S24 Ultra.
Galaxy S25 Ultra: the most detailed terminology
The S25 Ultra business specification sheet, current as of January 22, 2025, lists 3x and 5x optical zoom, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom, and up to 100x Space Zoom. Its UK product notes add the warning about possible deterioration beyond 10x. Together, these documents are the clearest official explanation of how Samsung separates optical and digital portions of the advertised range.
Galaxy S26 Ultra: the current-generation answer
Samsung’s current Gulf mobile pages identify Galaxy S26 Ultra as supporting 100x Space Zoom and list a 200 MP wide camera. Samsung Electronics’ 2026 first-quarter interim report records the Galaxy S26 series release in March 2026. Because the cited product page is regional, check your local Samsung specification page for the exact variant, supported bands and availability.
What can you realistically use 100x for?
Samsung documents 100x as a maximum reach, so think of it first as a way to locate and frame a distant subject. It can help you inspect a faraway sign, stage detail or architectural feature when moving closer is impossible. The mode is less suitable when you need faithful fine texture, small printed text or a perfectly sharp moving subject. Those limits follow from the increasing digital component and Samsung’s warning about deterioration beyond 10x.
Use the lower optical or optical-quality positions whenever they include the detail you need. A 3x, 5x or 10x frame generally gives the processing system more real image information than a 100x crop. You can always crop a sharp lower-zoom original later, while an overly enlarged frame cannot reliably recover detail that was never captured.

How to use 100x Space Zoom more effectively
The maximum setting is most demanding of your technique. These steps apply to the Ultra models’ camera apps, although exact labels and processing behavior can vary by generation and software version.
- Open the Camera app and select Photo. Keep the phone’s native camera mode active rather than enlarging a photo later in a gallery editor.
- Frame the subject at a lower zoom first. Locate the subject at 3x, 5x or 10x before attempting a higher setting. At 100x, a small hand movement can move the subject completely out of frame.
- Stabilize the phone. Brace your elbows, lean against a fixed surface or use a tripod. A stable phone gives the camera’s multiframe processing a better chance of aligning frames.
- Use abundant, even light. High magnification makes motion blur and noise more visible. Daylight or a well-lit subject is generally easier for the camera to resolve than a dim, moving subject.
- Tap the subject to focus and wait briefly. Let autofocus settle before pressing the shutter. If the preview hunts, lower the zoom, refocus and try again.
- Capture several frames. Small changes in focus, hand position and subject movement can produce different results. Keep the sharpest frame rather than assuming the first exposure is best.
- Review at 100 percent on the phone or a larger screen. A subject that looks recognizable in the viewfinder may not retain fine texture after processing. Check eyes, text, edges and repeating patterns for artifacts.
- Keep the lens area clean. A fingerprint or dust spot is magnified along with the scene and can look like a focus or processing fault. Wipe the camera glass with a clean microfiber cloth before retaking a difficult shot.
- Do not expect a tripod to stop subject movement. Support removes hand shake, but a moving person, vehicle or animal can still create blur between the frames used for multiframe processing.
These practices do not turn digital zoom into optical reach; they simply reduce avoidable blur and framing errors when you use the advertised maximum.
Choosing among the 100x Samsung models
Choose Galaxy S26 Ultra for the current generation
If you want the newest Samsung phone documented with 100x Space Zoom, S26 Ultra is the direct answer. Its current product page also lists a 200 MP wide camera. Verify local stock, model number and regional specifications because the available configuration can differ by market.
Choose S25 Ultra when terminology and documentation matter
S25 Ultra has the most explicit published breakdown in the supplied Samsung materials: 3x and 5x optical zoom, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom, and 100x Space Zoom. It is a sensible choice when you want a recent Ultra and want the optical-versus-digital portions clearly documented.
Consider S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra or S22 Ultra for a previous generation
All three are officially documented at up to 100x, but the sources do not establish identical image quality, processing speed or battery behavior. Compare the actual condition, software support, storage configuration and regional model rather than assuming that the shared headline number makes them interchangeable.

Older phones can advertise the same maximum while having different remaining software support, battery health and used-market condition. Confirm that a listing says “Ultra” or “Ultra 5G” where applicable. S20 and S20+ do not qualify for the 100x claim, and S21-series non-Ultra models should not be assumed to qualify.
What to check before buying
- Exact model: The 100x claim belongs to the Ultra tier in the generations documented here.
- Region: Samsung’s pages are market-specific. Check the product page for your country and the model number on the seller’s listing.
- Zoom terminology: Look for “Space Zoom,” “optical-quality,” “Super Resolution” or “digital” wording instead of interpreting “100x” as optical magnification.
- Source date: The S25 specification sheet is marked current as of January 22, 2025; S26 information is from Samsung pages current in October 2026.
- Condition for used phones: Inspect camera glass, autofocus behavior, battery health and return terms. Manufacturer specifications do not describe the condition of an individual used device.
- Evidence type: The numbers in this guide are Samsung specifications. There is no independent comparative statistic establishing how often 100x is useful or which listed generation produces the best 100x images.
- Included accessories: Confirm what the seller supplies and whether a charger, cable or case is included. The camera specification does not tell you anything about a particular retail bundle.
- Software version: Camera controls and processing can change with software updates. Check that a used phone can update normally and test the zoom in the installed camera app during the return period.
Common misunderstandings and fixes
“Every Galaxy S phone has 100x zoom”
Fix: Check the tier. Samsung’s S20 documentation gives S20 Ultra 100x but S20 and S20+ only 30x. The S22 and S24 comparisons show the same Ultra-versus-non-Ultra split.

“100x means the phone has a 100x telephoto lens”
Fix: Read the optical and digital portions separately. Samsung’s S25 materials identify 10x optical-quality zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, with optical positions at 3x and 5x.
“A shared 100x label proves equal photo quality”
Fix: Treat the number as a maximum advertised reach. The official material does not provide a controlled, cross-generation image-quality test, and Samsung itself warns that deterioration may occur beyond 10x.

For a new Samsung phone, Galaxy S26 Ultra is the current model documented with 100x Space Zoom. The complete earlier Samsung history documented here is S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra 5G, S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra. In every case, 100x is a Space Zoom maximum that extends optical or optical-quality magnification with digital processing. Select the Ultra model deliberately, verify your region, and judge the feature as a high-magnification framing tool rather than a promise of 100x optical detail.

Do the regular Galaxy S and S+ phones have 100x zoom?
Not in the documented generations. Samsung lists 30x maximum zoom for S20 and S20+, and for S22 and S22+, while assigning 100x to the Ultra model.
Which older Samsung phones support 100x Space Zoom?
The documented sequence is Galaxy S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra 5G, S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra, followed by the current S26 Ultra.
Will 100x photos be as detailed as 10x photos?
Not necessarily. Samsung’s S25 Ultra product notes warn that zoom distances past 10x may show image deterioration. The 100x number is a maximum reach, not a guarantee of equal detail.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat is the difference between optical-quality and digital zoom?
Optical-quality zoom uses selected hardware and high-resolution sensor data to target optical-like detail. Digital zoom enlarges a crop through processing. Samsung’s terminology and available steps can vary by generation.
How can I get clearer 100x shots?
Start at a lower zoom to find the subject, stabilize the phone, use bright even light, let autofocus settle, capture several frames and inspect the result at full size. A tripod helps with hand movement but cannot stop a moving subject.
Should I buy an older Ultra just because it says 100x?
Compare condition, battery health, software support, storage, regional model and return terms. The shared maximum does not establish identical image quality or performance across generations.
The Bottom Line
Galaxy S26 Ultra is the current Samsung phone with documented 100x Space Zoom. S20 Ultra through S25 Ultra also carry the advertised maximum, but 100x combines optical or optical-quality magnification with digital processing. Verify the Ultra model and region, and use the highest setting as a framing aid rather than as 100x optical detail.
