The best balance is per-game, not a universal “performance mode.” Add each game to Game Turbo, choose a frame-rate option the game actually supports, and start with moderate graphics quality. If the phone gets hot or battery use is too high, reduce graphics quality before lowering frame rate. Use only as much display brightness and refresh rate as you need. These changes can reduce demand, but Xiaomi has not published a tested combination that guarantees a specific battery-life gain.
What the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G can realistically deliver
Xiaomi says the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G supports Game Turbo. On the UK support page, the feature is described as prioritizing CPU and GPU resources for games while minimizing background activity. That makes it useful for reducing interference from other apps, but Xiaomi does not present Game Turbo as proof of a particular battery saving or a guaranteed frame-rate increase. You should treat it as a control layer, then tune each game separately.
The phone has a display capable of up to 120Hz, but a 120Hz panel does not mean every game can render at 120 frames per second. Xiaomi’s UK FAQ lists the following maximum frame rates for named games:

Xiaomi cautions that actual performance depends on the game’s optimization, selected settings and background processes. The figures above come from the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G FAQ; they are not a universal benchmark for every game version, map or match.

Xiaomi also characterizes the phone as suitable for casual gaming but potentially not optimal for large games. That is why a sensible target is stable play at a level the handset can sustain, rather than flagship-level graphics or a guaranteed high frame rate.
Set up Game Turbo before changing in-game options
Open the feature
- Open the Security app.
- Scroll down until you find Game Turbo.
- Add the game you want to tune, or launch it from Game Turbo if your software build presents that option.
- Play a repeatable section for several minutes before judging the result. Use the same map, training area or match type when comparing settings.
Menu names and available controls can differ by region and software version. Xiaomi confirms the feature and its general purpose, but its FAQ does not document every Game Turbo switch or promise identical labels on every build. If Game Turbo is absent, update the phone through its normal system-update screen and check again; do not assume that a missing menu can be recreated with an unrelated booster application.
What Game Turbo is—and is not
- It is: a Xiaomi gaming feature intended to prioritize CPU/GPU resources and minimize background activity.
- It is not: a measured battery-saving preset, a guarantee of a fixed frame rate, or a way to make an unsupported game mode appear.
- Best practice: use Game Turbo as the starting point, then make the important decisions inside the game’s own graphics and frame-rate menus.
Choose frame rate and graphics quality in the right order
1. Set a supported frame-rate target
Open the game’s graphics or performance menu and select the highest frame-rate option that the title actually exposes on your phone. Stay within Xiaomi’s listed ceiling for the game. A higher frame-rate target generally makes aiming, camera movement and scrolling feel smoother, but it also asks the processor and graphics hardware to produce more images each second.

When the game’s menu offers only 60 fps, 60 fps is the meaningful ceiling for that title on this device according to Xiaomi’s FAQ.

2. Start with moderate visual quality
After choosing the frame-rate target, start at the game’s medium or balanced graphics preset rather than its maximum-quality preset. This leaves thermal and battery headroom for busy scenes. If play remains cool and stable, raise one visual option at a time—such as texture detail or effects—so you can identify which change causes heat, stutter or faster drain.
3. Reduce graphics before frame rate when battery matters more
When the phone becomes warm or a long session is more important than visual detail, lower resolution, shadows, effects or the overall quality preset first while keeping the supported frame-rate target. Reducing the amount of work per frame can preserve smooth controls without asking the phone to render extra detail. If temperatures or drain remain unacceptable, lower the frame-rate mode as the next step.
This is a practical balancing method, not a Xiaomi-validated “best preset.” The official pages provide frame-rate ceilings and general performance caveats, but no combined graphics-and-battery test profile.
Use the display as a power budget
Refresh rate
The official specifications list a maximum display refresh rate of 120Hz. Select the highest refresh rate only when the extra smoothness is noticeable and worthwhile for the game you are playing. If a title is capped at 60 fps, a lower refresh-rate setting may be a reasonable battery-conscious choice, provided the interface and game still feel responsive to you.

A lower refresh rate is a power-saving inference from how display refresh works; Xiaomi’s reviewed pages do not quantify how many minutes or percentage points it saves during gaming. Compare the phone’s battery percentage over similarly long sessions rather than treating a change as a guaranteed result.
Brightness
Brightness is another direct display load. Set it high enough to see dark scenes and controls, but avoid leaving it at maximum indoors. Lowering brightness while keeping the same game settings can extend a session, although the amount depends on the scene, ambient light, network activity and software behavior. There is no official Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G gaming test in the cited material that assigns a specific saving to a brightness level.
When to keep 120Hz
- Keep the higher setting when you can clearly feel smoother touch and scrolling and battery use is acceptable.
- Try a lower setting for long sessions, lower-light play or games whose frame rate is already limited to 60 fps.
- Judge responsiveness in the actual game, not only on the home screen; a smoother system animation does not increase a game’s rendering limit.
Control background activity without creating new problems
Game Turbo is intended to minimize background activity. Before launching a demanding game, close resource-heavy apps that you know are interfering—such as a video export, navigation session or large download. Do not routinely force-close every application as a battery ritual: broad force-closing can make apps reload later and does not establish a gaming benefit.

Keep notifications and overlays to the minimum you need. An overlay that records, streams or displays a chat can consume CPU, GPU, memory and network resources. If you need recording, compare performance with and without it in the same game area; do not assume Game Turbo can offset every additional workload.

Network conditions also affect apparent smoothness. A delayed online match can look like a frame-rate problem even when the phone is rendering normally. Check whether the symptom is input or network delay before lowering graphics quality.
Manage heat and charging during long sessions
Heat is a warning that the current combination of frame rate, graphics quality, brightness, network activity and room conditions is demanding. Move to a cooler location, remove an insulating case if it is safe to do so, and lower graphics quality or frame rate when the temperature continues to rise. These steps reduce demand; they do not guarantee a specific temperature.
Do not treat playing while charging as a battery-saving technique. Xiaomi’s UK FAQ warns that heavy use while charging may reduce charging speed and add heat. For a long session, charge beforehand when possible. If you must remain connected, avoid presenting that arrangement as a way to extend battery health or maintain peak performance.
A repeatable long-session routine
- Charge the phone before the session and use a comfortable brightness rather than maximum brightness.
- Launch the title through Game Turbo and select the game’s supported frame-rate ceiling.
- Use medium or balanced graphics for the first match or test area.
- After several minutes, check for heat, stutter and the battery percentage change.
- Lower graphics quality first if heat or drain is excessive; lower frame rate if the problem persists.
- Recheck after changing one setting at a time so you know which trade-off helped.
Understand battery-capacity differences by market
Do not quote one global battery number for every Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G. Xiaomi’s regional pages list different typical capacities:

Check the page for your sales region and the label on your own device before comparing capacity. Capacity alone cannot predict gaming runtime: the game’s workload, frame-rate target, brightness, refresh rate, radio conditions, temperature and background tasks all matter.

What to do after a software update
If battery use suddenly rises after an update, Xiaomi says background optimization can temporarily increase consumption and typically settles within a few charge cycles. Give the phone time to complete that work before concluding that a game setting has permanently changed. If the increase continues, repeat the controlled test with the same game, brightness, refresh rate and frame-rate mode, then inspect which background process is active.

Troubleshoot by symptom
The game looks smooth but the battery falls quickly
- Keep the game’s supported frame-rate mode, then lower graphics quality.
- Reduce brightness and try a lower display refresh rate.
- Disable unnecessary recording, streaming and overlays.
- Compare a session away from the charger, because charging while playing can add heat and slow charging.
The game stutters even at a low preset
- Confirm that the title is not downloading assets or updating in the background.
- Check whether the game supports more than the frame rate you selected; selecting an unsupported value cannot improve rendering.
- Use Game Turbo if it is available, and remove resource-heavy background work.
- Test network delay separately from frame-rate drops in an offline or training area when the game provides one.
The phone becomes hot
- Lower graphics quality first, then frame rate if needed.
- Reduce brightness and avoid maximum refresh rate when it is not useful.
- Move to a cooler environment and avoid prolonged intensive play while charging.
- Stop the session if the device becomes uncomfortably hot; the cited Xiaomi pages do not provide a thermal limit or a guaranteed safe sustained-charging profile.
Game Turbo is missing or its labels differ
Open Security and look for Game Turbo. If the menu is not present, availability may depend on the region or software build. Xiaomi’s FAQ confirms the feature on this model but does not promise identical controls everywhere, so do not infer that a different label represents the same setting without checking its description.
A practical starting profile
For most games, begin with Game Turbo enabled, the highest frame-rate option the title offers within Xiaomi’s listed ceiling, medium graphics quality, comfortable brightness and the normal or lower refresh-rate choice that still feels responsive. Play a consistent test segment, record the battery percentage and note heat. Raise visual quality only when the phone remains comfortable; lower graphics, refresh rate or brightness when runtime matters more than detail. This method gives you a repeatable balance without claiming a battery result Xiaomi has not measured.
