The Midea Duo and GE Profile PPHV10WWF are the leading starting points if you want a portable air conditioner advertised at about 42 dB on its lowest setting. That figure is not a guarantee of what you will hear: one reported independent test measured a Midea Duo at 52.5 dB on low and 63.2 dB on high. No standardized test across all the models below establishes a definitive quietest portable AC.

How to compare portable AC noise claims

A decibel figure is useful only with its context. A manufacturer’s minimum-setting claim and an independent reading may use different fan settings, distances, or measurement methods. The available comparison does not document one complete, standardized protocol for all models, so treat its figures as a shortlist rather than a like-for-like ranking.

  • Manufacturer claim: The U.S. Midea product page says, “The sound level of Midea Duo is as low as 42db when cooling.” This is manufacturer product copy, not an independent measurement. Midea U.S. portable air conditioners
  • Reported independent readings: Portable AC Lab reports ConsumerAnalysis measurements of 52.5 dB on low and 63.2 dB on high for one Midea Duo test. These readings should not be treated as interchangeable with Midea’s 42 dB claim.
  • Distance and units: The comparison says its independent LG reading was taken from six feet. Sources present figures in dB or dBA; preserve the unit and source rather than assuming the readings were made under identical conditions.

For a bedroom, look beyond the quietest advertised setting: check which mode the noise claim describes and whether that setting can maintain the temperature your room needs.

Model Noise evidence Cooling and design details What to know
Midea Duo Midea claims as low as 42 dB while cooling. Portable AC Lab reports one ConsumerAnalysis test at 52.5 dB on low and 63.2 dB on high. Dual-hose inverter. Midea lists U.S. configurations including 12,000 BTU SACC for up to 450 sq. ft. and a 14,000 BTU / 12,000 BTU SACC configuration for up to 550 sq. ft. Verify the exact model and capacity: the product page covers multiple configurations, and the figures describe different kinds of evidence.
GE Profile PPHV10WWF 42 dB specification reported by Portable AC Lab; no comparable independent reading stated. Dual-hose inverter; 10,000 BTU and estimated coverage around 450 sq. ft., as reported by Portable AC Lab. The specifications here are secondary-source claims and were not independently confirmed against a GE product page.
De’Longhi Pinguino EM375WRC About 49 dBA, as reported by Portable AC Lab; no comparable independent reading stated. 6,900 BTU; described as a smaller single-hose option by Portable AC Lab. Ideal Home separately describes a De’Longhi unit at 46–53 dB, 11,000 BTU, and up to 29 m², but does not establish that it is the EM375WRC. Do not treat those details as this model’s specifications.
LG LP1419IVSM 51 dB claim and independent readings of 54–56 dB reported by Portable AC Lab. LG’s product page supports model and capacity details, but the retrieved page information does not show its noise figure. Dual-inverter smart Wi-Fi model; LG lists 10,000 BTU SACC / 14,000 BTU ASHRAE and coverage up to 500 sq. ft. Keep SACC and ASHRAE figures distinct; they are different rating measures.
Black+Decker BPACT08WT About 52 dBA, as reported by Portable AC Lab; no comparable independent reading stated. Capacity, coverage, and hose configuration: not stated in the cited comparison. The noise figure is a comparison-page figure, not a common-test result.
Whynter ARC-14S About 56 dBA, as reported by Portable AC Lab; no comparable independent reading stated. Capacity, coverage, and hose configuration: not stated in the cited comparison. The noise figure is a comparison-page figure, not a common-test result.

Which model fits your room and priorities?

Start with the Midea Duo if its specific configuration fits

The Duo combines an inverter design and dual hoses, and Midea advertises a low-setting sound claim. The U.S. page describes more than one capacity and coverage combination, so select by the exact SKU’s SACC rating and intended room size rather than assuming every Duo covers up to 550 sq. ft. Midea’s product details are available on its U.S. portable AC page.

Consider the GE Profile as another low-claim candidate

Portable AC Lab lists the GE Profile PPHV10WWF at 42 dB and describes it as a 10,000-BTU dual-hose inverter with estimated coverage around 450 sq. ft. Because those details were not verified against a GE primary product page here, confirm the exact model specifications before purchase.

Compare LG cooling ratings carefully

LG’s LP1419IVSM is rated at 10,000 BTU SACC and 14,000 BTU ASHRAE, with coverage up to 500 sq. ft. LG’s official product page is the primary reference for those model details: LG LP1419IVSM. Portable AC Lab reports a 51 dB claim and 54–56 dB independent readings, but these do not establish a directly comparable result against every other model.

Look at smaller options without assuming a larger model comparison

Portable AC Lab lists the De’Longhi Pinguino EM375WRC at about 49 dBA and 6,900 BTU, and the Black+Decker BPACT08WT at about 52 dBA. Noise figures alone do not establish which one will cool a particular room adequately; compare each exact model’s capacity and room guidance before choosing.

Understand SACC, room coverage, and hose design

Use SACC ratings when comparing portable AC cooling capacity where that value is available. Do not compare an ASHRAE BTU number as though it were the same measure as SACC. A model’s stated room coverage is also a guide tied to that product configuration, not proof that the quietest mode will cool every room equally well.

The comparison identifies the Midea Duo and GE Profile as dual-hose models and the De’Longhi EM375WRC as a single-hose option. That design detail can help distinguish candidates, but it does not substitute for checking the unit’s rated capacity, noise evidence, and installation requirements.

Regional model warning: Midea Canada MP86SQWBA2RCM

This Canadian model page lists 14,000 BTU / 8,600 BTU SACC and coverage up to 350 sq. ft. It gives conflicting noise figures: one feature block says 45 dB in low mode, while another says 50 dB. Because the manufacturer page is inconsistent, it is not possible to rank this model confidently by noise from those figures. The model and availability are region-specific. Check before buying

  • Confirm the complete model number and regional version; similar product names can cover different capacity configurations.
  • Match the SACC rating and stated room coverage to your space instead of choosing on noise alone.
  • Read the noise claim’s setting and source. Treat manufacturer minimums and independent readings as separate evidence.
  • Verify the window kit will fit your window and check the model’s condensate instructions.
  • Confirm current availability and specifications on the manufacturer’s page; catalog listings and stock can change.
