If your main reason for subscribing is claiming the monthly games, buy the PlayStation Plus Essential 12-month membership. Essential is the least expensive tier that includes Monthly Games, at $79.99 for 12 months in the US. Extra is worthwhile when you also want its rotating Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics; Premium makes sense only if Classics, time-limited game trials, cloud streaming or the Sony Pictures Catalog are priorities.
All three tiers include the monthly-game benefit. The decision is therefore about which additional catalogs and features justify the higher price, not about getting more monthly games. The prices below are US figures published by PlayStation in 2026 and checked on October 13, 2026; catalogs and availability can change.
What you get with every PlayStation Plus plan
Monthly Games are included in Essential, Extra and Premium. PlayStation Support defines them as “games available for you to download and play at no extra cost during your PlayStation Plus membership.” New games are added every calendar month.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The monthly selection is the same benefit across the three tiers. Paying for Extra or Premium does not give you a larger monthly-game allowance; those plans add separate catalogs and features.
PlayStation Plus prices and benefits in the US
PlayStation’s US plan page lists these prices and inclusions for 2026. Prices are recurring subscription rates unless you cancel, and the annual figures are not a promotional one-time price in the information provided.
| Plan | Monthly price | Three-month price | 12-month price | Included beyond Monthly Games |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $10.99 | $27.99 | $79.99 | Online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, Share Play, cloud storage and exclusive content |
| Extra | $16.99 | $43.99 | $134.99 | Everything in Essential, plus the Game Catalog (described by PlayStation as hundreds of games) and Ubisoft+ Classics |
| Premium | $19.99 | $54.99 | $159.99 | Everything in Extra, plus the Classics Catalog, limited-time Game Trials, cloud streaming and the Sony Pictures Catalog |
Buying a year costs less than paying the monthly rate for the same 12 months: the calculated totals are $131.88 for Essential, $203.88 for Extra and $239.88 for Premium. The three-month rates produce calculated annual totals of $111.96, $175.96 and $219.96 respectively. Those calculations assume four uninterrupted three-month purchases and are included only to show the price difference; your checkout total, taxes and any local pricing rules can differ.

Choose Essential
Essential is the correct fit for a monthly-games-only subscription because it is the minimum tier that includes Monthly Games and has the lowest annual price. The PlayStation Plus Essential 12-month membership costs $79.99 in the US, so you do not pay for a catalog you may never use.
Essential also includes online multiplayer, discounts, Share Play, cloud storage and exclusive content. Those benefits matter if you play online or use the other membership features, but none of the higher tiers is required to claim the monthly titles.

When a shorter term is sensible
Choose monthly or three-month billing when you are testing whether you will claim games regularly, need a temporary online-multiplayer subscription, or expect to stop playing soon. At the listed rates, Essential’s annual price is lower than roughly eight monthly payments, so a year becomes the better value if you expect to remain subscribed beyond that point. The same pattern applies to Extra and Premium: their annual prices are lower than about eight monthly payments at the listed US rates.
When PlayStation Plus Extra is worth the higher price
The deciding feature: a rotating Game Catalog
Extra includes everything in Essential and adds the Game Catalog, which PlayStation describes as containing hundreds of games. It also includes Ubisoft+ Classics. This is a different proposition from Monthly Games: you browse a larger library rather than claiming a small set of new monthly titles.

Extra is a sensible upgrade when you want to play several catalog games during the year and would otherwise buy or rent enough individual titles to exceed the $55 annual difference between Extra and Essential. That calculation is a budgeting guide, not a guarantee of a particular game lineup.
Check your tolerance for catalog turnover
Catalog games are not a permanent purchase. PlayStation states that catalog contents and availability vary over time and by plan. A game can therefore be available when you subscribe and absent later. Before choosing Extra for a specific title, check its current listing and treat the catalog as a changing selection rather than a guaranteed library.
Who should skip Extra
Extra adds little value if you already own the games you want, play only the monthly selections, or rarely have time to work through a large catalog. In those cases, the $134.99 annual price buys access to features you are unlikely to use, while Essential supplies the same Monthly Games benefit.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

What Premium adds over Extra
Premium costs $159.99 for 12 months in the US, $25 more than Extra. Its additions are targeted features rather than more monthly games.
Classics Catalog
Premium adds the Classics Catalog to the Essential and Extra benefits. Choose Premium if older PlayStation titles are a central reason for subscribing and the current Classics selection contains games you intend to play.
Limited-time Game Trials
Premium includes limited-time Game Trials. These let you evaluate selected games for a restricted period rather than committing to a full purchase. Trial availability is title-specific, so Premium should not be purchased on the assumption that every new release will have a trial.
Cloud streaming
Premium includes cloud streaming. This can be useful when you want to play supported games without downloading them first or when storage and download time are constraints. The feature applies to supported content and does not turn every PlayStation game into a streamable title.
Sony Pictures Catalog
The plan also lists the Sony Pictures Catalog. If access to that catalog is not important to you, it should not by itself justify Premium’s additional annual cost.

Who should choose Premium
Premium is appropriate when you can name at least one of these as a regular priority: the Classics Catalog, limited-time trials, cloud streaming or the Sony Pictures Catalog. If none is important, Extra—or Essential when you do not need the Game Catalog—is the more economical choice.
How to claim each month’s games
The exact screen labels can differ between a PlayStation console, web browser and app, but the process follows the same sequence.
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that holds the active PlayStation Plus membership.
- Open the PlayStation Plus area and go to the current Monthly Games section.
- Review the titles offered for the current calendar month and open each game’s detail page.
- Choose the option shown to add the title to your library, then download it immediately or leave it in the library for later.
- Repeat for every title you want before the monthly offer changes.
Adding a game before the deadline is the important step. Merely seeing the game in the Monthly Games section does not establish continuing access; it must be added while you are eligible. Keep the membership active when you want to play it.
How to choose using your playing habits
| Your priority | Best fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Claim the monthly selections and spend as little as possible | Essential | It is the lowest tier with Monthly Games and costs $79.99 annually in the US. |
| Play many games from a changing library | Extra | It adds the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics to Essential’s benefits. |
| Play older titles, test games, stream supported content or use the Sony Pictures Catalog | Premium | It adds Classics, limited-time Game Trials, cloud streaming and the Sony Pictures Catalog. |
| Subscribe only for a short period | Any tier on monthly or three-month billing | A shorter commitment limits the cost while you test how much of the included content you use. |
Use the highest tier only when its specific additions solve a problem you actually have. A catalog-focused player may justify Extra even if they claim every Monthly Game; a player who never browses catalogs does not receive a monthly-game advantage from upgrading.

Monthly Games are not permanent purchases
The membership grants access while it is active. If you cancel, you can keep using the benefit through the end of the active term, but you cannot continue playing the claimed Monthly Games after membership access ends. The titles do not become owned games simply because you added them to your library.

Catalog availability changes
PlayStation says catalog availability varies over time and by plan. This applies to the Game Catalog, Classics Catalog and other catalog-based benefits. Save data or an installed game does not guarantee continued entitlement if the title leaves the applicable catalog.
PS4 additions after January 2026
PlayStation’s 2026 plan information notes that, from January 2026, PS4 games are added only intermittently. If you subscribe mainly for PS4 content, do not assume a fixed monthly cadence of new PS4 catalog additions.
Regional pricing
All prices in this guide are for the United States. Other countries can have different prices, currencies, taxes, billing periods and catalog lineups. Check the account’s local PlayStation store before paying.
A practical buying checklist
- Confirm that your account region is the United States if you are comparing against the prices in this guide.
- Decide whether you want only Monthly Games or also a rotating catalog.
- If you want a catalog, verify that the games you care about are currently listed; availability can change.
- Choose Premium only after identifying a real need for Classics, Game Trials, cloud streaming or the Sony Pictures Catalog.
- Select a 12-month term when you expect to stay subscribed for most of the year; select monthly or three-month billing when flexibility matters more.
- Add each Monthly Game to your library during its calendar-month offer and keep the membership active when you want to play.
Bottom line
For monthly games alone, buy PlayStation Plus Essential. Its $79.99 US annual price provides the same Monthly Games benefit as the more expensive tiers. Move to Extra for the rotating Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics. Choose Premium only when Classics, limited-time trials, cloud streaming or the Sony Pictures Catalog are worth the additional cost to you. Recheck prices and the current catalogs at checkout because both are time-sensitive.
