On a new iQOO phone, change settings in this order: secure the lock screen, limit app permissions, protect notification privacy, make the display comfortable, choose a refresh-rate mode, review battery and sleep controls, and only then arrange the home screen. This order protects your data before you spend time on appearance.
iQOO phones use Funtouch OS, but menu names and available features vary by model, software version, carrier and country. Treat the paths below as starting points; use the Settings search box when a label differs or is missing.
Start with security and privacy
The first setup session should deal with information that could be exposed if the phone is lost, borrowed or mirrored. Visual preferences can wait.
1. Set a screen lock
- Open Settings and search for screen lock, password or fingerprint.
- Choose a PIN, password or pattern, then enroll fingerprint or face unlock if your model offers it.
- Use a PIN that is not a birthday or repeated number. Keep a recovery method you can remember without writing the unlock code on the phone.
If a lock is already active, confirm the automatic-lock timing and test that biometric unlock falls back to the PIN or password after a restart. The exact security labels differ across Funtouch OS builds.

- Breathing Light: The BOLD K50 camera features a beautiful halo breathing light that elegantly pulses to life upon receiving notifications, adding a touch of style to your device.
2. Decide what the lock screen reveals
Open the lock-screen settings and review clock, date, shortcuts and notification previews. The official vivo user manual documents a Lock screen settings area, but the controls and their location can vary. Showing full message text is convenient; hiding sensitive content protects one-time codes, work messages and health information from anyone who can see the display.
Choose the least revealing option that still works for you: no previews, icons only, or full details. Check the result by sending a test message while the phone is locked.
3. Review Always On Display
On supported phones, the path is Settings > Home screen, lock screen & wallpaper > Always On Display. Select a style, display schedule or notification behavior if those controls appear. AOD is useful for glancing at time and alerts, but it keeps portions of the display active; the manual does not provide a universal battery-cost figure, so choose a schedule based on your routine rather than assuming one setting is best for every model.

Audit app permissions before installing more apps
New phones often arrive with a mixture of system, carrier and preinstalled apps. Check what each app can access before you add accounts or copy private data.
Use the permission manager
- Open Settings and search for permissions, Permission manager or App permissions.
- Review high-impact categories such as location, camera, microphone, contacts, phone, SMS, files and photos.
- For each app, select the narrowest useful choice: deny, ask every time, allow only while in use, or allow all the time, depending on the options shown.
- Recheck apps that need background location, accessibility access, notification access or the ability to appear over other apps. These privileges can do more than a normal runtime permission.
The official vivo manual describes system controls for managing app permissions, but it does not guarantee identical toggle names on every iQOO build. If an app stops working after a restriction, grant only the specific permission it needs and test again; do not enable every category as a shortcut.
Set notification privacy and status-bar information
Notifications determine how much personal information appears on the lock screen, in banners and in the status bar.
Choose a presentation level
In Settings, search for Notifications or Lock screen notifications. Decide separately whether an app may alert you, whether it may use sound or vibration, and whether its content appears while the phone is locked. Banking, authentication, messaging and work apps usually deserve stricter previews than games or weather apps.

Keep useful indicators visible
Review the status-bar controls for battery percentage, network indicators and notification icons. Showing an icon without message text gives you an early warning without exposing the content. Exact indicator choices vary by model and region.
Understand screen-sharing privacy limits
Funtouch OS 15 documentation says that, on supported devices, sensitive information is kept private during screen sharing and that notifications can show only app icons and names when third-party mirroring or recording apps are used. This is version- and app-dependent, not a guarantee for every iQOO phone or every capture method. For confidential work, still pause notifications or use a separate profile before presenting.
Make the display comfortable
Display changes affect every minute you use the phone, so tune them after privacy controls but before cosmetic home-screen work.
| Setting | Path to try | What to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness | Settings > Display and Brightness (or Display & brightness) | Use manual brightness or adaptive brightness according to how much lighting changes around you. |
| Eye Protection | Settings > Display & brightness > Eye Protection > Schedule | Schedule warmer colors for evening reading if they feel more comfortable. |
| Dark theme | Settings > Display & brightness > Dark theme | Choose light or dark appearance and a schedule. Some screens use a solid black background; any battery benefit depends on the panel and app. |
| Screen timeout | Settings > Display & brightness > Screen timeout | Use the shortest delay that does not interrupt reading, navigation or recipes. |
Brightness and adaptive brightness
iQOO support documents manual brightness adjustment after turning off Auto-brightness. If the screen repeatedly becomes too bright or too dim, test adaptive brightness for a day, then adjust it manually when needed. There is no universal brightness number because room lighting, outdoor use and your own comfort differ.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEye Protection scheduling
Open Settings > Display & brightness > Eye Protection > Schedule. A schedule can reduce late-night color shifts without requiring daily changes. Color temperature and scheduling options are model-specific, so judge the result by readability and comfort.
Dark theme
Under Settings > Display & brightness > Dark theme, select a schedule if available. Dark theme is primarily a comfort and appearance choice. The manual notes that some screens use solid black backgrounds that may help extend battery life, but no single percentage applies to all iQOO models, brightness levels or apps.

Screen timeout
A short timeout reduces the chance that an unattended phone remains unlocked and lit. Choose a longer value only when a short timeout interrupts tasks such as cooking, reading or following a workout. Lock the phone manually whenever you put it down in a public place.
Choose a refresh-rate mode deliberately
The path documented in iQOO and vivo materials is Settings > Display & brightness > Screen refresh rate. Higher available modes can make scrolling and supported animation feel smoother, while lower modes generally reduce display work. The actual choices and default differ by handset.
| Mode type | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Smart, Smart Switch or automatic | Most people who want the phone to balance smoothness and endurance | The system decides when to change modes; behavior is less predictable than a fixed choice. |
| Highest listed rate | Fast scrolling, compatible games and users who notice motion immediately | May increase power use; the panel and app must support the higher rate. |
| Lower fixed rate | Long trips, standby-heavy use or users prioritizing endurance | Motion can look less fluid, especially while scrolling. |
Do not force a universal number such as 90 Hz or 120 Hz: some models do not offer it, and one model’s default may be Smart Switch. Change the mode, scroll through Settings and a browser, then keep the option that matches your eyes and battery priorities.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Review battery, sleep and background activity
After the display is comfortable, inspect how the phone spends power while you use it and while it is idle.
Check battery usage
Search Settings for Battery or Battery usage. Look for an app consuming unusual background power during the first day. Initial setup, photo indexing and updates can temporarily raise usage, so check again after normal use rather than reacting to a single short period.
Use power-saving modes when the situation calls for them
Standard power saving can limit background activity, performance or synchronization. Enable it for travel or a low-battery day, then turn it off when you need unrestricted performance. Extreme modes, when offered, can disable functions you rely on; read the on-screen description before accepting.

Check sleep features on supported software
Funtouch OS 15 advertises an AI sleep mode that can restrict unnecessary network connections during sleep. It is a version-specific feature: use it only if the option appears on your phone, and exclude apps that must receive time-sensitive calls, messages or alerts.
Pair battery controls with Screen timeout rather than relying on aggressive background restrictions alone. A long timeout can waste more energy during ordinary use than a carefully chosen background policy.
Personalize the home screen last
Once security, permissions, privacy and power behavior are settled, adjust the launcher to your habits.
Choose Standard or Drawer style
Open Settings > Home screen, lock screen & wallpaper > Home settings. The manual lists Standard and Drawer styles on supported builds. Standard places installed apps on home pages; Drawer keeps the home screen cleaner and opens the full app list with a swipe.

Set layout, new-app behavior and swipe-down action
Review grid or layout choices, whether newly installed apps appear on the home screen, and what a swipe down does. Pick a layout that keeps frequently used apps reachable without filling every page. These are preference settings, not performance requirements, and availability varies by build.
When a setting is missing
A missing menu does not necessarily indicate a fault. The official user manual states: “If you can’t find a certain option on your device, it means the feature is not supported.” Model hardware, Funtouch OS version, carrier software and regional rules can all change the list.
- Use Settings search with shorter terms such as refresh, timeout, theme or permission.
- Check whether the phone is running a different Funtouch OS version from the manual you are reading.
- Install pending system updates, then search again; menu names can move after an update.
- Do not install an unknown utility that claims to unlock a hardware-dependent option.
- If a documented path still leads nowhere, record the model, software version and region before contacting iQOO support.
A practical first-day order
- Confirm the screen lock, biometric fallback and lock-screen notification previews.
- Audit permissions and special access for preinstalled and newly added apps.
- Set notification behavior and status-bar indicators, then test the locked screen.
- Adjust brightness, Eye Protection, Dark theme and timeout.
- Choose Smart, a higher listed refresh rate or a lower fixed rate based on smoothness and endurance.
- Review battery usage, power saving and any supported sleep feature.
- Configure Always On Display if you need it, accepting that it can affect power use.
- Finish with home-screen style, layout and swipe behavior.
This sequence gives the biggest privacy and comfort benefits first while leaving reversible cosmetic choices until the phone’s essential behavior is understood.
