The iPhone 16 Pro is the better fit if you want a conventional, compact iPhone; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the choice if you want a phone that opens into a larger screen for more workspace. The Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch main display, while the iPhone has one 6.3-inch display. Their camera setups and battery figures also differ, but manufacturer specifications alone do not establish which phone takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use.

Apple’s figures are from its iPhone 16 Pro technical specifications. Samsung’s display, processor, camera, battery, weight, and storage details come from its official launch information and US product listing.
Price difference: the available figures are from different dates
Apple announced the iPhone 16 Pro at a US starting price of $999 in September 2024. In July 2026, TechRadar reported a US starting price of $2,099.99 for the 256 GB Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The arithmetic difference is $1,100.99, but these are not same-date prices: one is the iPhone’s launch price and the other is a later reported Fold8 Ultra price. That subtraction is not a verified current checkout-price gap.

Choose iPhone 16 Pro for a conventional handset
The iPhone 16 Pro has a single 6.3-inch display and weighs 199 g. It suits buyers who prefer a regular smartphone form rather than unfolding a device to access a larger screen. Its storage configurations start at 128 GB.
Choose Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for an expanded workspace
The Fold8 Ultra pairs a 6.5-inch cover screen with an 8-inch main display when opened. That larger canvas is the defining practical difference: it gives you more screen area for reading, viewing, and working across apps. It weighs 215 g and its listed storage options start at 256 GB, though Samsung notes that configurations can vary by market.

Camera specifications: compare the hardware, not just megapixels
Apple specifies a 48 MP main camera, a 48 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom for the iPhone 16 Pro. Samsung lists a 200 MP wide camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom for the Fold8 Ultra. These are different camera configurations, but megapixel counts and zoom specifications do not by themselves determine which phone produces better photos. The available specifications are not a controlled, head-to-head image-quality test.

Battery figures do not establish which lasts longer
Samsung lists the Fold8 Ultra battery capacity as 5,000 mAh. Apple gives playback estimates for the iPhone 16 Pro: up to 27 hours of video playback and up to 22 hours of streamed video playback. Capacity and playback estimates measure different things, so they cannot be directly compared to declare a battery-life winner. Real-world endurance depends on usage and conditions.

Availability and ecosystem considerations
Samsung said sales of the Fold8 Ultra began on August 7, 2026, in select markets, with the rollout expanding globally. Availability and configurations may therefore differ by country. Check the local Samsung listing or retailer before assuming a particular storage option or sale price is offered where you live. The iPhone 16 Pro and Fold8 Ultra also belong to different platforms; if your existing devices and services are tied to Apple or Samsung’s ecosystem, that can be a more important day-to-day factor than a single specification.
Samsung also reported that preorder sales for its new lineup increased by more than 30% compared with the previous generation. That is the company’s own preorder comparison, not independent evidence of market share or a measure of either phone’s quality.

Which one should you buy?
- Pick iPhone 16 Pro if you want a conventional 6.3-inch phone, use Apple’s platform, or prefer the listed 128 GB starting storage option.
- Pick Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if an 8-inch unfolded display is central to how you want to read, view content, or multitask, and you are comfortable with a foldable form factor.
- Compare live prices before deciding if cost is decisive. The available US figures—$999 for the iPhone at launch in 2024 and a reported $2,099.99 Fold8 Ultra starting price in 2026—do not show the current price difference between equivalent offers.
