For Antigravity 2.0 on macOS or Linux, start with the Default permission preset for most sandboxed agent work. Choose Request Review when you want to approve every terminal command. Use Turbo only for a deliberately unrestricted, trusted project: it removes sandbox isolation, skips command prompts and grants full filesystem access.
Then narrow the project folder, file paths, web domains and MCP targets to what the task actually needs. Keep network access disabled unless the workflow requires it, and verify your platform and installed version before following a menu path. Google documents the updated permission system for macOS and Linux; Windows uses older controls.
What to change first
Make the global preset your baseline, then override it only for projects with a genuine different requirement. In Antigravity 2.0, open Settings > General > Permission Settings for the global policy. Open Settings > Projects for project-specific behavior. A new project normally uses Inherit General, so it follows the global preset until you choose another policy.

- Confirm the platform and version. The updated permission pages describe macOS and Linux. Windows exposes the previous controls, so labels and behavior can differ.
- Set the global preset. Use Default unless you have a reason to review every command or to remove isolation temporarily.
- Review each project override. Leave ordinary projects on Inherit General; assign a separate policy only when its files, tools or risk profile require it.
- Restrict targets. Grant the smallest useful workspace path, command scope, URL domain or MCP target.
- Test the policy with a harmless operation. Check which actions run in the sandbox, which produce an approval card and which are denied before starting a sensitive task.
How the three permission presets differ
The preset controls both command review and isolation. It is not merely a prompt-frequency setting.

| Preset | Sandbox | Terminal commands | File access | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Default | On | Allowed inside the sandbox; approval required outside it | Workspace and temporary directories | Normal development and agent tasks |
| Request Review | Off | Approval required for every command | Workspace only | Tasks where you want a human decision before each command |
| Turbo | Off | Unrestricted, with no prompt | Full filesystem | Short, controlled work where unrestricted access is intentional |
Default: the practical starting point
Default runs commands in the terminal sandbox and asks for approval when an operation falls outside it. The initial boundary includes the active workspace and temporary directories. This gives an agent room to inspect and modify project files without automatically exposing the rest of your machine.
Request Review: maximum command visibility
Request Review disables the sandbox and asks before every terminal command. It is useful when command-by-command approval is more important than automatic isolation, but it can interrupt long workflows. File access remains limited to the workspace according to the documented comparison.
Turbo: unrestricted by design
Turbo disables the sandbox, runs commands without prompting and provides full filesystem access. Treat it as an exception, not a safer or faster default. A typo, malicious instruction or compromised dependency can affect files outside the project and execute without an approval checkpoint.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Set permissions with the correct precedence
Antigravity evaluates sensitive tool operations through Deny, Ask and Allow lists. The order is strict: Deny overrides Ask, and Ask overrides Allow. A broad Ask rule can therefore continue to prompt even when a narrower Allow rule appears to permit the same operation.
Use narrow rules
- Allow a specific project subdirectory instead of an entire home directory.
- Allow the exact web domain needed by a workflow rather than a broad collection of domains.
- Target the particular MCP server or tool required for the task.
- Use Deny for sensitive locations or operations that must never run, even if another rule would otherwise allow them.
Unconfigured web and MCP actions default to Ask. That default is safer than creating a broad Allow rule just to avoid prompts. If an approval card appears, the target can be editable for file, URL or MCP permissions, allowing you to expand the granted scope deliberately. Terminal command scope editing is not supported, so inspect a command carefully before approving it.

Understand the read/write relationship
A write_file grant also implies read access to that same path. A denied read path cannot be written. This means a write permission is never a write-only exception: review the information that the agent could read from the granted location before approving it.
Keep workspace boundaries deliberate
The workspace is the main safety boundary for ordinary projects. Set it to the folder the task needs, and do not add unrelated directories merely for convenience. A project can work directly from a local folder or through a Git worktree. If the selected folder is not a Git repository, Antigravity falls back to local use. Standalone conversations use a local scratch directory instead of a project workspace.
Choose a project folder
- Open Settings > Projects.
- Select the project whose behavior you want to change.
- Set the project folder to the repository or working directory that contains the files the agent must use.
- Choose Inherit General unless this project needs a separate permission policy.
- Remove extra folders that are not required for the current task.
Keep source code, generated artifacts and temporary outputs in known locations. If a build genuinely needs another directory, grant that path specifically instead of switching the whole project to Turbo.
Use Git worktrees consciously
A worktree gives an agent an alternate checkout while preserving the main working tree. Confirm which worktree is active before allowing writes or destructive commands. A local folder without Git is still usable, but it does not gain worktree behavior automatically.
Know the Windows boundary
Windows uses a separate Agent non-workspace file access control. The documented default limits access to active project folders and application-local data. Enabling broader file access should be an intentional decision, because it expands the area an agent can inspect or modify. Windows also has separate terminal-execution and sandbox settings rather than the same updated macOS/Linux preset model.

Control file permissions without over-granting
Under the updated system, the Default sandbox begins with workspace and temporary-directory access. read_file and write_file grants can extend that boundary. Grant a path only when the task cannot be completed inside the workspace.
- Reading a secret or configuration outside the workspace: prefer a narrowly scoped read grant for the required file or directory.
- Writing build output elsewhere: grant the output directory, remembering that the grant also allows reads there.
- Handling credentials: avoid granting broad home-directory access; use a task-specific file or environment mechanism instead.
- After the task: remove temporary grants that are no longer needed.
Do not infer that a successful file operation means the entire machine is exposed. The effective boundary depends on the preset, project policy and individual action grants. Inspect those three layers when behavior is unexpected.
Decide whether network access is necessary
In the updated macOS/Linux Default setup, sandboxed commands have no network access by default. Keep that state for local editing, refactoring and tests that do not need downloads or external services.
Grant web reading separately from browser control
read_url governs web reading and browser navigation permissions. Interactive browser actions such as clicking or typing are governed separately by execute_url. Approving one does not automatically grant the other.
Approved URL domains also contribute to the sandbox’s outbound network allowlist. Allow only the domains required by the workflow, such as a specific documentation host or package registry. A domain grant can therefore affect both browser-style reading and command networking from the sandbox; review the scope before approving it.

When to enable network access
- Package installation or dependency resolution requires a registry.
- The agent must read current documentation from a known domain.
- A test must call a specified development or staging service.
- A browser workflow needs navigation and interaction, in which case read and execute permissions may both be needed.
For every other task, leave network access disabled and provide files or documentation locally.
Use strict mode for higher-control work
The Settings documentation describes a strict mode that requires review for terminal commands, browser JavaScript and artifact actions. It also respects .gitignore, disables access outside the workspace, activates sandboxing and denies network access. This is a useful profile for repositories containing sensitive code or for work that must remain inside a known checkout.
Strict-mode availability and labels can vary by platform and installed version. If the toggle is absent, do not assume that another setting provides the same guarantees; verify the actual permission cards and sandbox status shown by your installation.

Google’s Antigravity 2.0 Agent Settings and sandbox pages describe Default as sandboxed and say the updated permission system is available on macOS and Linux. A general Settings page also says sandboxing is disabled by default. These statements appear to describe different system surfaces or versions and are not fully reconciled in the official material.

- your operating system;
- the installed Antigravity version;
- the selected global preset;
- the project’s override or Inherit General setting;
- any separate sandbox toggle shown in Settings; and
- the approval behavior of a harmless test command.
If those checks disagree with the documentation, treat the controls visible in your installation as authoritative for that version and avoid enabling Turbo while you investigate.
Troubleshoot common permission surprises
An allowed action still prompts
Look for a broader Ask rule or a Deny rule. Because Deny wins over Ask and Ask wins over Allow, a more specific Allow entry cannot override a higher-precedence restriction. Also check whether the operation is a different action type: reading a URL, executing a browser action and running a terminal command are evaluated separately.
The agent cannot write a file
Confirm that the file is inside the active workspace or an explicitly granted path. A denied read path cannot be written, and a project override may be stricter than the global policy. Check that the selected folder is the intended local folder or worktree.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA command cannot reach the internet
That is expected for sandboxed commands in the updated Default setup unless a required domain has been approved. Grant only the needed URL domain, then retry. If the command is outside the sandbox, its approval and execution behavior may follow the selected preset rather than the network allowlist.
Windows instructions do not match
Use the Windows controls for non-workspace file access, terminal execution and sandboxing. Do not assume that macOS/Linux preset names or boundaries map directly to the Windows interface.
A safe configuration checklist
- Use Default for ordinary sandboxed work.
- Use Request Review when every terminal command needs approval.
- Reserve Turbo for a trusted, controlled task that explicitly needs unrestricted access.
- Keep projects on Inherit General unless a project-specific policy is necessary.
- Set the workspace or worktree to the smallest useful folder.
- Grant file paths, URL domains and MCP targets individually.
- Remember that a write grant includes read access to that path.
- Leave network access disabled unless the workflow requires it.
- For browser workflows, distinguish
read_urlfromexecute_url. - Check strict-mode availability and the actual sandbox toggle on your platform.
- Test a harmless command after changing settings and remove temporary grants afterward.
The Bottom Line
Use Default plus narrowly scoped project and action grants as the normal Antigravity 2.0 configuration. Choose Request Review for command-by-command control, keep network disabled until needed, and treat Turbo or broad filesystem access as deliberate exceptions. Because the documented controls differ between macOS/Linux and Windows—and some official pages describe different defaults—verify the settings shown by your installed version before trusting the boundary.
