For Windows desktop apps, choose a Microsoft Surface Pro; for a large Android drawing canvas, consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra; and for iPadOS, pair an iPad Air or iPad Pro with a compatible Apple Pencil. “Tablet PC” can mean a Windows computer, but this guide uses the broader consumer meaning: pen-enabled tablets running Windows, iPadOS, or Android. These are recommendations by use case, not a single performance ranking. Check the exact model, pen compatibility, regional bundle, and current price before buying.
How to choose a pen tablet
Start with the software you need, then compare the complete setup rather than the tablet alone. A Windows device is the clearest fit for desktop applications and familiar PC workflows. iPadOS and Android tablets use their own tablet app ecosystems, which may suit drawing, handwriting, and touch-first work better.
- Check the pen: Confirm the exact stylus model works with the tablet and whether it is included in the package sold in your region.
- Price the whole setup: Include the pen and, if you plan to type or use the tablet as a laptop, the keyboard. Some accessories are separate purchases.
- Match screen size to use: A large display can give drawing and split-screen work more room, while a smaller tablet is generally easier to hold and carry.
- Check generation and availability: Product names and bundles vary by market, and a previous-generation tablet may make sense only at a suitable price.
Which pen tablet should you buy?
1. Best Windows tablet PC: Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch or 13-inch
Choose a Surface Pro when Windows desktop applications are the deciding factor. Microsoft positions the Surface Pro as a 2-in-1 laptop-tablet and supports the optional Surface Slim Pen. Microsoft specifies 4,096 pressure points for that pen; this is a manufacturer specification, not an independent assessment of drawing quality. The pen and keyboard are sold separately. Microsoft’s Surface Pro specifications and displayed prices listed US starting prices of $1,149.99 for the 12-inch model and $1,199.99 for the 13-inch model when accessed in 2026. Those are page prices at that time, not guaranteed current or street prices.

2. Best premium Android drawing option: Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra
The 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is the Android choice here when a very large drawing surface or room for multitasking matters. Samsung’s US comparison page lists its Dynamic AMOLED 2X display at 2960 × 1848. Creative Bloq describes the reviewed S11 Ultra as a premium creative tablet and reports that an S Pen is included. Its drawing and multitasking observations apply to the Ultra model reviewed; they should not be assumed to describe every S11 device.
There is a generation caveat: the S11 Ultra launched in September 2025, and Creative Bloq reported in October 2026 that the S12 Ultra had superseded it. The S11 Ultra is therefore not the newest Samsung tablet in that reporting. Compare the current generation and any S11 deal rather than treating the older model as the default premium pick. Samsung’s official tablet comparison page lists the S11 family; confirm the package contents for your country and seller.

3. Best mainstream Android option: Samsung Galaxy Tab S11
The 11-inch Galaxy Tab S11 is the smaller Android option in Samsung’s current comparison listing. Samsung specifies a 2560 × 1600 Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. Its smaller screen may be more convenient for handheld note-taking and everyday portability than the 14.6-inch Ultra, while offering less space for a large drawing canvas or side-by-side work.
The cited review material concentrates on the Ultra, so it does not establish that the smaller S11 shares every Ultra drawing or multitasking strength. Check whether the exact S11 package in your region includes an S Pen before purchasing. Samsung lists the model and its display on its US tablet comparison page.

4. Best iPadOS option: iPad Air or iPad Pro with a compatible Apple Pencil
An iPad Air or iPad Pro is the iPadOS route for readers who prefer Apple’s tablet app ecosystem. Apple maintains current product information for both the iPad Air and iPad Pro. Before buying, identify the precise iPad model and verify which Apple Pencil generation it supports; compatibility is not universal across iPads and Pencil models.
Include the compatible Pencil in the total cost: Creative Bloq’s stylus comparison notes that Apple sells its styluses separately. The cited material does not establish a comparable current price for a tablet-plus-Pencil setup, so check Apple’s current pricing and the Pencil price for your chosen model rather than comparing tablet-only prices with bundles that include a pen.

5. Value-oriented Android candidate: Lenovo Yoga Tab
The Lenovo Yoga Tab is worth considering if you want an Android tablet with pen support and value is a priority. Creative Bloq includes the Yoga Tab in its stylus-tablet coverage and discusses its drawing experience and price positioning. That does not establish a current US price, availability, or consistent pen-included package. Verify the exact generation and seller’s SKU, confirm pen compatibility and box contents, and compare the full setup cost before treating it as a value buy.

There is no comparable five-device street-price snapshot in the cited material. The Surface prices above are Microsoft’s displayed US starting prices at the time its page was accessed in 2026; they do not include the separately sold Slim Pen and keyboard. For the iPad picks, add a compatible Apple Pencil. For Samsung and Lenovo, verify whether the particular regional package includes the supported pen. A bundle can change the relative value, so compare the same set of items—tablet, stylus, and keyboard if needed—at the seller you intend to use.
