For most RTX Spark systems, start at native 1440p with High or Ultra raster settings, then enable DLSS Quality or Balanced, selective ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex. Move to DLSS Performance when the traditionally rendered frame rate cannot hold your target, and use Ultra Performance only for unusually demanding 4K or path-traced workloads. On a 240Hz or 360Hz display, test Dynamic Multi Frame Generation with the target set to the display’s maximum refresh rate, but do not combine Dynamic mode with a frame limiter or V-Sync.
These are evidence-based starting points rather than a universal benchmark. NVIDIA describes RTX Spark as a platform for thin laptops and compact desktops, with a published gaming target of 1440p at 100-plus frames per second. Actual results vary with the original-equipment manufacturer’s power and cooling limits, memory configuration, display and game.
Recommended RTX Spark settings by gaming goal
| Goal | Starting settings | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Best image quality at 1440p | Native 2560×1440 output, High or Ultra raster settings, DLSS Quality or Balanced, and ray tracing only where the rendered frame rate remains stable | More detail and cleaner edges, but less performance headroom |
| Highest performance at 1440p | Native 1440p output, DLSS Performance, reduced or selective ray tracing, NVIDIA Reflex enabled | More frames, with softer reconstructed detail than Quality or Balanced |
| 4K or very heavy path tracing | DLSS Performance first; Ultra Performance only when necessary; Ray Reconstruction on supported games | Large performance gain, but Ultra Performance has the greatest reconstruction compromise |
| 240Hz or 360Hz display | Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, target set to Max refresh rate, and Reflex enabled | Smoother motion can come with responsiveness or compatibility compromises; Dynamic mode currently conflicts with frame-rate limiters and V-Sync |
| Competitive latency | Strong traditionally rendered frame rate, conservative ray tracing, Reflex enabled, and frame generation only after checking responsiveness | Generated frames improve fluidity but do not replace the latency of the traditionally rendered frame |

NVIDIA’s published gaming target is 1440p at 100-plus FPS. Treat that as a design target, not an independently measured result for every configuration. A thin system running at a conservative power limit can perform differently from a compact desktop with more cooling capacity, even when both carry the RTX Spark name.
Display support is likewise conditional. NVIDIA says the HDMI implementation can support up to 4K at 480Hz or 8K at 120Hz with Display Stream Compression, gaming variable refresh rate and HDR, subject to the manufacturer’s implementation. The panel, cable, connector mode and system firmware still determine what you can select.
Prepare the system before changing game settings
Install the current software stack
Use an up-to-date NVIDIA display driver and NVIDIA App. The available model, frame-generation and Ray Reconstruction overrides can depend on driver and app versions, and a game may need a current patch to expose a feature. If a setting described below is missing, check the driver and app first, then verify that the game supports the relevant DLSS feature.
Confirm the real display mode
Set Windows and the game to the panel’s intended native resolution and refresh rate before judging image quality. A 1440p panel should be tested at 2560×1440; a 4K panel should be tested at 3840×2160. Enable HDR or variable refresh only when the display, connection and game support them together. Do not infer a 480Hz or 8K capability from the platform specification alone.
Record a baseline
Play the same demanding scene for several minutes with upscaling, ray tracing and frame generation disabled. Note the average frame rate, the slow-feeling moments and visual artifacts. The traditionally rendered frame rate is the useful baseline for deciding whether DLSS, ray tracing or frame generation is appropriate; generated frames can make motion look smoother without reducing the workload that determines input latency.
Set up the best 1440p image quality
1. Use native output and high-quality raster settings
Begin with the display’s native 1440p resolution. Select High or Ultra for conventional raster options, but keep an eye on settings that consume disproportionate performance, such as volumetric effects, shadows, reflections and view distance. A stable High preset with a consistent frame time usually looks better in motion than an unstable Ultra preset.
2. Choose the DLSS model in NVIDIA App
Open the game’s graphics profile in NVIDIA App and locate DLSS Override – Model Presets. Set it to Recommended for the safest first choice. NVIDIA’s current mapping uses Preset M for DLSS Performance, Preset L for Ultra Performance and Preset K for the remaining DLSS modes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The Recommended choice matters because it lets NVIDIA select the model associated with the mode the game is using instead of forcing a single model across every mode. If you are troubleshooting a particular mode or comparing image quality, you can deliberately select the corresponding preset, but change one variable at a time.

3. Select Quality, Balanced or Performance in the game
| DLSS mode | Use it when | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Quality | Image fidelity is the priority and the native render can sustain your target | More input detail and fewer reconstruction compromises, with the smallest performance gain of the three |
| Balanced | You need additional headroom but want to retain a sharp 1440p presentation | A practical middle ground for demanding scenes |
| Performance | The GPU cannot hold the target frame rate with Quality or Balanced | Higher output performance and a softer reconstruction base; NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.5 guidance specifically optimizes Preset M for this mode |
| Ultra Performance | Only exceptionally heavy 4K or path-traced workloads remain below the target after other adjustments | The lowest internal render resolution and the greatest risk of fine-detail loss; NVIDIA maps this mode to Preset L |
At 1440p, move from Quality to Balanced before jumping directly to Performance. If the game remains below the target, Performance is the logical next step. At 4K, Performance is a more reasonable starting point because the higher output resolution gives the reconstruction more source pixels; reserve Ultra Performance for cases where Performance still cannot provide enough headroom.
4. Add ray tracing selectively
Ray tracing can improve lighting, reflections and shadows, but its cost varies sharply by game and effect. Enable the effects that visibly improve the scene, then reduce the most expensive effect if the traditionally rendered frame rate becomes unstable. Do not enable every ray-traced option merely because the hardware supports it.
5. Enable NVIDIA Reflex
Turn on NVIDIA Reflex in games that support it. Reflex is especially important when the GPU is heavily loaded because it coordinates CPU and GPU work to reduce the queue of rendered frames. Frame generation should be evaluated only after Reflex is active and the underlying rendered frame rate is healthy.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Improve ray-traced image quality with Ray Reconstruction
For a supported ray-traced game, open the game’s graphics profile in NVIDIA App and find DLSS Override – Ray Reconstruction. Start with Recommended or Preset F. Ray Reconstruction uses an AI model to replace a game’s traditional denoising stage, which can make ray-traced reflections, lighting and shadows appear more coherent.
Support is per game, and the available override depends on the game’s ray-tracing implementation and the installed driver or app version. If the option does not appear, do not force an unrelated model preset; use the game’s own ray-tracing and DLSS controls instead.
Compare a still scene and camera movement. Look for stability in fine geometry, foliage, reflections and distant lighting rather than judging only a single screenshot. If a particular title shows shimmering or an unusual reconstruction artifact, return the Ray Reconstruction override to Recommended or disable the override and keep the game’s native option.
Use frame generation correctly on high-refresh displays
Dynamic Multi Frame Generation
For a 240Hz or 360Hz panel, open the game’s profile in NVIDIA App and locate DLSS Override – Frame Generation Mode. Choose Dynamic, then set the target to Max refresh rate. NVIDIA designed Dynamic Multi Frame Generation to adjust generated-frame behavior toward the display’s refresh target rather than applying one fixed setting in every scene.
Dynamic mode currently conflicts with frame-rate limiters and V-Sync. Turn those controls off when testing Dynamic, and let the display’s variable-refresh behavior handle changes if the monitor and game support it. If you need a fixed ceiling or must retain a limiter, choose Custom instead and set a target appropriate for the display.

When frame generation is worthwhile
- Use it after the traditionally rendered frame rate is already stable enough for responsive control.
- Pair it with NVIDIA Reflex in supported games.
- Judge camera and character movement, not just the displayed FPS counter.
- Disable it for latency-sensitive play if controls feel delayed or visual artifacts are distracting.
Generated frames increase displayed smoothness; they do not turn a weak rendered base frame into a low-latency competitive experience. A high generated FPS number can therefore coexist with sluggish input if the underlying frame production is too slow.

- Choose the target. Use 60, 120, 144, 240 or another target that matches the display and the type of game. A higher target requires more headroom and may justify DLSS Performance sooner.
- Establish the native baseline. Run native resolution with High or Ultra raster settings and no frame generation. Record frame-rate consistency in the same demanding scene.
- Set NVIDIA App’s model override to Recommended. This prevents an accidental Performance or Ultra Performance model from being forced on a Quality or Balanced mode.
- Select DLSS Quality. If the target is stable, keep it and add only the ray-traced effects that provide visible value.
- Move to Balanced, then Performance. Make one change at a time when the target is missed. Performance is preferable to reducing output resolution when you still want a native 1440p presentation.
- Enable Reflex. Recheck responsiveness after every major change, especially with ray tracing or frame generation.
- Test frame generation last. On a high-refresh display, try Dynamic with Max refresh rate; if a limiter or V-Sync is required, use Custom instead.
- Inspect difficult scenes. Check dense foliage, reflections, smoke, fast camera pans and menus with fine text. These expose reconstruction and frame-generation artifacts that an average FPS number can hide.
Profiles for common display and game types
| Scenario | Suggested profile | Adjustment trigger |
|---|---|---|
| 1440p single-player game | High or Ultra raster, DLSS Quality, selective ray tracing, Reflex on | Use Balanced or Performance if heavy scenes cannot hold the desired frame rate |
| 1440p competitive game | Conservative raster settings, DLSS Quality or native rendering when fast enough, Reflex on, no frame generation initially | Prioritize consistent rendered frames and control response over maximum visual effects |
| 4K ray-traced game | DLSS Performance, Ray Reconstruction Recommended or Preset F, Reflex on | Use Ultra Performance only if Performance remains insufficient; reduce the most expensive ray-traced effect first |
| 240Hz or 360Hz display | Stable rendered base rate, Reflex on, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation with Max refresh rate | Use Custom when a fixed target, limiter or V-Sync is necessary |
| HDR variable-refresh setup | Native panel resolution, a refresh mode supported by the connection, and game-side HDR/VRR enabled where compatible | Check the monitor’s actual negotiated mode rather than relying on the platform maximum |
Troubleshooting common results
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The DLSS model option is missing | Unsupported game, outdated NVIDIA App or driver, or an unavailable profile | Update the driver and app, confirm game support, then use the game’s built-in DLSS selector |
| Dynamic frame generation cannot be enabled with the limiter | Dynamic mode currently conflicts with frame-rate limiters and V-Sync | Remove those controls for Dynamic testing, or switch to Custom and set a fixed target |
| FPS rises but controls feel slow | The traditionally rendered base frame rate is too low; generated frames are masking it | Lower ray tracing or move to DLSS Performance, keep Reflex on, and reassess before re-enabling generation |
| Fine detail shimmers or looks soft | DLSS mode is too aggressive for the output resolution, or the title’s reconstruction is unsuitable | Move from Ultra Performance to Performance, Balanced or Quality; return Ray Reconstruction to Recommended if it is involved |
| Ray Reconstruction is unavailable | The title or installed software does not expose supported Ray Reconstruction controls | Use the game’s native ray-tracing and DLSS settings and check for a supported update |
| The advertised refresh rate or resolution cannot be selected | Panel, cable, connector mode, DSC support or OEM implementation limits the available output | Verify the display specification and connection path; NVIDIA’s maximum is conditional, not universal |
How to interpret RTX Spark performance claims
The 1440p, 100-plus-FPS target is useful for choosing a starting resolution and settings tier, but it is not a guarantee for a particular game. Performance depends on whether a title is CPU-limited, GPU-limited, heavily ray traced or constrained by an OEM’s thermal and power configuration. Memory capacity and configuration also matter when high-resolution textures, large worlds or multiple applications are active.
Likewise, the up-to-1-petaflop FP4 AI figure describes maximum platform capability rather than a measured gaming frame rate. Tensor-core capability helps DLSS and other AI workloads, while the final result still depends on the game’s implementation and software versions.
NVIDIA’s stated support for up to 4K 480Hz or 8K 120Hz with DSC, gaming VRR and HDR describes an output ceiling under qualifying conditions. It does not mean an RTX Spark system will render modern games at those resolutions and refresh rates. Treat the monitor’s native mode, the connector and the laptop or desktop manufacturer’s implementation as the binding limits.
“NVIDIA DLSS uses AI to boost performance and image quality, so you can enjoy games at their best.” — NVIDIA, RTX Spark product page, 2026
The practical verdict
For a general 1440p RTX Spark setup, use native output, High or Ultra raster quality, NVIDIA App’s Recommended DLSS model preset, DLSS Quality, selective ray tracing and Reflex. Change to Balanced or Performance only when the traditionally rendered frame rate needs more headroom. Use Ray Reconstruction Recommended or Preset F in supported ray-traced games, and reserve Dynamic Multi Frame Generation with Max refresh rate for high-refresh displays after the base frame rate is already responsive. If Dynamic’s conflict with limiters or V-Sync matters to your setup, use Custom instead.
Because no universal, independently measured game-by-game benchmark exists for every RTX Spark laptop and compact desktop, validate the profile in the games you actually play. The best setting is the one that holds a stable rendered frame rate, preserves the details you notice and keeps input responsive on your specific display.
